  3. Making Businesses Alzheimers Friendly
If you’re a family caregiver of someone with Alzheimer’s disease, you know firsthand the challenges of going into the community with your loved one. If you're a local business, it might be helpful for you to gain some insight into the disease and have guidance to help you and your employees handle some common issues that may arise from customers with Alzheimer’s disease. That is why the Home Instead Senior Care® network is sponsoring a public education program called Alzheimer’s Friendly Business℠. This program is designed to provide locations within our community training to become an even safer environment for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.

Caregivers Need Our Help

This free training, which could be conducted in 30 minutes, helps businesses better understand Alzheimer’s disease and manage related behavioral situations that may arise in the work setting because of this disease. The aim of this training is to help customers with Alzheimer’s disease (and their loved ones who care for them), who otherwise may shy away from business because they fear being embarrassed, feel more welcomed due to trained employees treating them with an increased sensitivity.

The training addresses:
  • - what Alzheimer’s disease generally is and isn’t
  • - potential signs of the disease
  • - potential triggers to common behavioral issues that may arise from the disease
  • - suggestions for handling such scenarios
  • - suggestions for interacting with someone who has the disease

Our local Home Instead Senior Care Minneapolis office can provide the training to your employees, training management in a “train the trainer” approach or online. To start the process of becoming an Alzheimer's Friendly Business, call our office today at 753-544-5988. Or, if you're a caregiver for a loved one with Alzheimer's, be sure to tell the businesses you frequent, about the Home Instead Senior Care network’s Alzheimer’s Friendly Business℠ program.
