We started Home Instead for my parents a few months ago, and it's been a tremendous help. My brother and I both live out of town, and we weren't sure what to do when my parents had a bad fall. But we had done some exploration of home help, and we knew Home Instead had a great reputation. They made it easy from the very first call. Angelica, the client care manager, got both my brother and me on the phone the same day (he was overseas!), and a care pro was at my parents' house the next morning. Since then, the care pros have become an essential support for our parents. Not only do they help with housecleaning and grocery runs, they drive them to appointments, go into the exam room, and take notes. My mom was always the one to take notes, but her memory isn't what it used to be, so before this, we were left reconstructing each doctor's visit from whatever she could recall. In August, one of the care pros sat through my dad's full hour with his neurologist and wrote up the whole visit for us—including two blood pressure readings that turned out to matter a great deal. We were able to read all of it through the online family portal that same evening, hundreds of miles away. They've been just as wonderful when an appointment comes up on short notice. More than once we’ve called only a day ahead and had a driver arranged before we hung up. They also sent a professional nurse to oversee my parents' medications. She settled a drug-interaction question that had been worrying us, set up the pill boxes, and signed off on the care pros who help fill them, which was an enormous relief. And they notice things. One of the care pros saw that my dad's walker was set too low and was making him stoop, and simply took care of it. She also suggested that we get him a bed rail, which is a very helpful piece of equipment that we didn’t know existed. That kind of attention and support has made a tremendous difference for our family.

Alicia comes to us with a background in i started working at an assisted living facility as a housekeeper on the dementia ward, then promoted to a resident assistant. i decided to get my cna certificate and was accepted into a program at carondelet, at. st. joe's hospital where i did on the job trading na to rn. due to my mother in law illness i had to leave the program to be a care giver to her. i have had several jobs working as a medical assistant in dr. offices and have through my career taken time off to care for various family members,. my father in law, my grandmother, my daughter, and now my husband. so it only seemed a natural transition to continue the job i loved to do, care giving. i was hired at home instead only a few months ago and i love it!. With 4-5 months at Home Instead, Alicia has built relationships rooted in trust, compassion, and shared joy.
