February 2024 Care Professional of the Month: Dawit H.
Dawit says, “Our community is better because of the contributions from seniors.” Dawit enjoys hearing the stories, experiences, and humor of the seniors he cares for. Dawit said, “Sometimes just the act of sitting and hearing older people talk also helps them feel better, especially for those in senior care facilities who may not have visitors.”
Dawit’s client served in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Dawit says he is a hero who gave everything for his country. Dawit loves listening to his client’s, “cool stories.”
Dawit has been inspired by his father who faced many hardships in his life, one of them was caring for his disabled wife. Dawit’s father worked hard and was very grateful for his destiny. He admires his father’s resilience, loyalty, and honesty.
Dawit’s advice to other caregivers is to remember to keep your client’s personal information private, and never work outside of the Scope of Practice. Be respectful, compassionate, and culturally sensitive. If you have any concerns document them and bring them to the attention of your supervisor.
