Meet Our Team

Our team relies on the same core values that family is built upon, trust, integrity, and empathy for one another. The sense of community that we have with each other is what makes this a truly singular business. Not only is this a locally owned franchise but it is run by an amazing couple, Janine and Dave Hearn, who made it their mission to care. To care, not only about the people who we provide services for, but also to the people who make it possible; our caregivers.  Our business is only as good as the people who compose it, which is why we make it our mission to return the respect to our employees. The very people who go out everyday and choose to make a positive difference in our community. Good will, friendship, and genuine connection are the glue that binds us all together. Upholding these values within the company is what allows us to extend that to our community in Durango.

Proudly Serving Aging Adults & Their Families

Our Promise

What makes Durango special is that mountain-town sense of community. The knowledge that your neighbor would lend you a cup of sugar and that it’s more than likely you’ll see a friend at the supermarket. Through rugged winters and balmy summers, together we survive, thrive, and enjoy our beautiful town. That sense of connection we have with one another is what our mission strives to uphold. As a community, it is each individual that makes it so unlike any other. Our mission is to care for those members who need a little extra help, and what better a way to do it than from the comfort of their own home? Finding quality care for the elders of our community; our grandparents, parents, spouses, and friends can be a difficult undertaking and an exhausting transition. What we provide is that support, that unflinching compassion, that can turn an unbearable transition into a graceful journey. The odyssey of aging is something that deserves to be respected and if possible, enjoyed despite how daunting it can appear. Our promise is to be there through all of it. We show up. We support. We care.

About Us
Meet Our Team
Franchise Owner Janine Hearn

Janine Hearn - Franchise Owner

I met my husband, Dave, when we both worked for local government in the UK.  We married and had our two wonderful children in the 1990's, and I transitioned while they were still very young into tennis coaching (a dream come true having been a very keen sports person in school), which I enjoyed for many years.  I was lucky enough, being self employed, to be in a position to care for my parents when the need arose, and quickly learned that caring is something that comes very naturally to me, and feel at home when doing so.

I found Home Instead around 9 years ago, when we moved to California.  An injury led me into a new employment direction, and during my search, the Home Instead website spoke to me!  Since then, I have held various positions in California and Arizona, from CAREGiver to Home Care Consultant.

Owning my own franchise is dream come true number two.  Being able to make a true difference (however small) to someone's life is a gift, as is the opportunity to deliver this through Home Instead, whose core values truly align with my own.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, reading, cooking and exploring, especially my new town of Durango!

Dave Hearn - General Manager

I spent eight years in investment banking in the City of London before transitioning over to a career in corporate risk management, predominantly within the logistics and supply chain management industry, where I have spent the past 31 years.

I have "lived" Home Instead vicariously through my wife, Janine (in her role as CAREGiver and more recently Home Care Consultant) and not only do I identify with Home Instead's culture but I recognize the enormous opportunity to make a very positive and lasting impact upon the lives of seniors within our territory here in Durango, CO. I embark upon this next stage of my life with a sense of excitement and overriding desire to actually make a difference in peoples' lives.

Outside of the work environment I am what can best be described as an enthusiastic amateur road cyclist, regularly participating in endurance rides in the mountains of California and, more recently, Colorado.

Zoë Johnson - Client Care Coordinator

I grew up in Fort Collins, CO before moving to Bellingham, WA to pursue a degree in biology and chemistry. Ever since I was little my true mission in life has been to care for other people. I was always mending the imaginary injuries of my stuffed animals hand and later in school I became the person my friends could turn to when they had a rash or a cut or “that weird bump that won't go away”.

I am working my way towards medical school but before commencing on that enormous endeavor I wanted to come back to the reason why I wanted to go in the first place, helping people. I have been working in healthcare since 2019 and I am happy to say that when I joined Home Instead at the end of the year in 2022 that I truly feel like I am making a difference in people’s lives. I am happiest when I am connecting with people, be it over art, science, climbing, horror movies, or whatever random topic we stumble upon!
