Abby - Staff Scheduling Coordinator

Abby was born in Southern California and raised in a small mountain town. She moved to Portland at the beginning of 2021 and absolutely loves it so far! She has spent the last five years working in event planning and coordinating. Abby is photographer in her spare time and loves photographing people and telling their stories. She is also an outdoor enthusiast and loves to go hiking, rock climbing, camping, and paddle boarding when the weather permits. On the rainy days she enjoys cooking with her boyfriend, reading a good book, and finding the nearest climbing gym of course!

Alloa - Communities Admin Assistant

Alloa has lived in Oregon for 26 years. She has lived all over the United States, including Alaska. Alloa has four children three girls, one boy and four wonderful grandchildren. You will often find her spending time with her family and extended family as they love doing everything together. Alloa loves exploring the outdoors by road trips, hiking, camping and canoeing! In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, watching movies, remaking furniture and cooking.

Alloa volunteers in the community by helping with the Family Promise program which is a program helping homeless families get back on their feet through teaching them self-reliance, finding jobs, getting children in schools, helping with homework and meal preparation. Alloa also sings with the "Westside Singers" choir.

Recently she became interested in the homecare business as her mother's health has declined and she needed to step into the position of caregiver for her.

Amber Bertonaschi, Office Manager

Amber - CAREGiver Services Lead

Born and raised in Grand Rapids, OH, Amber decided to go to art school straight out of high school. After deciding that a helping career would suit her better, she moved out to Portland, OR in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Portland. During her time there she spent time working in several clubs focused on equality activism. She has dreams of working as a family and marriage counselor, focusing on end of life care and bereavement counseling. She started working at Home Instead as a CAREGiver and became part of the Rapid Response team shortly before becoming a Key Player in the office. She loves getting to meet all our fantastic CAREGivers, greeting new clients and helping the rest of the Home Instead team run smoothly. Amber comes from a rural village where her mom and sibling, Niamh, still live. As of 2020, Niamh has graduated and is looking into business schools – Amber is very proud and can't wait to see what kind of adult her sibling becomes. Amber likes to read and is way in over her head with her houseplants.

Bernard - Owner

​Bernard moved to the Pacific Northwest from Idaho in 2008 with his family. He has worked in Health Care for over 20 years. His career started out in Social Work but led him into administration where he has served as an Administrator and Regional Vice President. In his free time, he loves spending time with his family usually doing something related to sports, which he loves to watch and coach. He has also learned to do stained glass over the last couple of years and uses his creative side well. Bernard feels that his love for providing care for others is a calling in life and not just a job; something that he looks forward to doing each day as soon as he wakes up.

Bradley - Intake Coordinator

​Brad grew up in Portland, Oregon, in what is now the Mt. Scott/Happy Valley area. His parents owned a farm, where they raised and bred both Morgan horses and German Shepherds, along with a variety of other farm animals. Brad went into the Army at age 17, after early graduation. After the Army, he married and had two sons. He moved around, living in California, Washington and Oregon, and held a variety of jobs, until he found his true love - working with people. Brad has been in the caregiving field for almost 33 years. He spent five years as a CNA, before going back to school to become a Respiratory Therapist for the next 28 years. He also spent 6 years in cardiology, working with acute care patients. He has a passion for helping seniors stay independent and happy. When not at work, Brad is heavily involved in his church of almost 40 years. His love for people comes from his love for God, and God’s love for people.

Cherokee - Client Care Coordinator

Cherokee was born and raised in Las Cruces, NM and moved to Oregon in 2011. Cherokee attended college to study Architectural Drafting and Design. After getting her degree, she felt a calling toward social services. Family is very important to her so she tries to fly home whenever she can. Her extended family has always cared for their aging members, so caregiving comes natural to her.

Cherokee loves pro sports, especially NFL, NBA, MLB, tennis and soccer. She also volunteers with rescue animal on weekends when her schedule allows. One of her favorite parts of being an Oregonian is spending time outdoors, especially exploring new waterways in her kayak.

Chris - Staff Scheduling Manager

Chris is the new Scheduling Manager at the 805. After growing up in southern California, Chris attended Northern Arizona University. Chris holds a degree in Communications with double minors, one in Queer Studies and one in Public Relations. Chris moved to Oregon with pet cat, Bosco, in September 2021 to join their best friend from college. Chris is a huge foodie and is fascinated with Portland’s many food pods and the amazing variety of foods sold. Chris’ spare time is spent managing a YouTube lifestyle channel and will soon be starting a podcast focusing on the queer lifestyle.

Christian - Recruitment & Engagement Coordinator

Christian was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ and moved to Portland in September 2016. He holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies from Northern Arizona University and a Graduate Certificate in Women and Gender Studies. When not working, Christian loves exploring coffee shops in different Portland Neighborhoods. He considers himself a foodie, driving around town looking for new restaurants to visit. He is currently on the hunt to find the best cheeseburger in Portland. Christian loves spending time with his orange tabby and 17 houseplants. When not doting on them he is connecting with friends and working on creative projects (I love to watercolor) and planning short weekends getaways. In his spare time he create arts, read Tarot and Oracle cards (professionally), and listen to audiobooks. One of his favorite aspect of being an Oregonian is exploring the forests and along the Oregon coastline looking for treasures.

Herren Ciaira

Ciaira - Client Care Coordinator

Ciaira grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and has lived in Oregon for the past two years. She’s been a CNA for 11 yrs. and enjoys helping others with their daily care needs. After graduating from Fort Hays State University with a degree in social work, she started her career in Skilled Nursing/Long Term Care as a Social Services Director. In her spare time, Ciaira likes to spend time with family/friends, hiking, visiting the coast and watching NFL football – Go Chiefs!! She has an 11 yr. old miniature schnauzer named, Murphy and a 9-month-old Siamese named, KitKat, that was rescued from the fires in Salem last summer.
Cindy Mainquist, Administrative Assistant, Training Department

Cindy - Training Administrative Assistant

Cindy grew up in Arroyo Grande, California. After high school, she moved to Palm Springs for several years before moving to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked in the Engineering and Architectural field. Her parents moved to Portland, Oregon in 2017 and shortly after her father was receiving home care services through Home Instead 805. Cindy began to reassess her career goals so that she could start "paying back," specifically in a field that helped seniors. In May of 2020 she moved to Portland, to spend more time near family. She enjoys meeting all of the new CAREGivers in her role as a trainer as well as introducing them to their new clients. Cindy’s greatest love is her four children and six grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her family and her fur baby, a Welsh Corgi named Moose. She also enjoys reading, crocheting, day and weekend trips to explore new areas, and spending time at the ocean.

Emily - CAREGiver Services Lead

Emily was born and raised in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was homeschooled and was able to finish high school, and her associates degree by the time she turned 18. Since then, she has gone on to get her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Oregon University. She hopes to one day become a professional novelist, and potentially a life coach. She has spent the last six years caregiving before joining the CAREGiver Services department and is honored whenever she gets the chance to help cover shifts.

When she is not at work, she enjoys spending the time surrounded by her plants, reading her books as well as time with her fiancé.


Evelyn - Training Manager

Evelyn is from a large family and enjoys people of all ages especially the very young and the very old. She grew up in Portland but moved to Sisters, Oregon in 1995 where she owned a Waldorf-based childcare center for over ten years. In 2012, she was ready for a change and briefly returned to Portland before heading to Chicago for graduate school. Evelyn holds master’s degrees in Adult Education and an MA in Justice Ministry, as well as a graduate certificate in gerontology. She came to Home Instead to make a difference in the life of seniors. That difference starts with outstanding training, both initial and ongoing formation of our CAREGivers. Evelyn is a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order. In her free time, Evelyn enjoys spending time with her family, getting away to the beach and volunteering at her church and community events.

Iliana "Gabby" Hernandez

Iliana, who goes by Gabby, is the Client Care Coordinator at the Mary’s Woods satellite office. She worked as a CNA for over ten years before coming to Home Instead. Gabby’s mom had been the lone Scheduler at the 805 when the franchise was new. Gabby’s passion for seniors and healthcare will eventually lead her to becoming a nurse.

Gabby grew up in Newberg OR where she has spent her whole life. In her free time, she spends as much time as possible with her husband and three children, who are her pride and joy. When Gabby’s not at Mary’s Woods, their family loves exploring local parks, mapping them out and discovering the communities nearby. The highlight of her year has been family visits Disneyland when it is decked for Christmas.

Jill - Client Care Coordinator

Jill grew up in the Midwest, spending much of her childhood in Topeka, Kansas and small towns of Illinois. Jill attended Kansas State University before moving to Oregon in 1988. She then went on to graduate from Portland Community College and George Fox University with an Education & Social & Behavioral Study degree. Jill has two daughters, the eldest living in South Carolina and the youngest is a teacher in Hillsboro. She has worked with children and families for 23 years, including grandparents. Jill loves to be outside whenever possible especially when the sun shines!  She likes to spend time with family and friends, playing games, golfing, plus crabbing, fishing, camping at the coast.  During the fall and winter months Jill likes to ski and watch Kansas State Wildcats football & NFL Chiefs & Seahawks!


Joan - Director of Clinical Services

Originally, Joan hails from Nebraska but has lived in Oregon over 35 years. As a young girl, she was drawn to books about Clara Barton and Florence Nightingale and knew that she would always be in a caring profession. Joan started her medical career as a nursing assistant in a small rural hospital in Kansas. A few years later, her path led her to community college where she earned her associates degree in nursing and became an LPN. Life happened along the way, postponing plans to continue her education. Eventually, she returned to school to be a RN. Over the years, Joan has worked in rural hospitals, skilled nursing, home health, and  memory care. For 7 years, Joan ran her own health and wellness business. The best parts of her life are her husband, their grown children and grandchildren. She enjoys spending time hiking, gardening, traveling and playing both board and card games with them. Joan says "I am excited to work with you!"
Kelly Kohl, Client Care Coordinator

Kelly - Client Care Coordinator

Kelly is a native Oregonian. She grew up in SE Portland and graduated from Oregon State University. Kelly initially thought that her calling was going to be in the sports and fitness industry. As life went on, she found that she was drawn more and more towards the seniors and wanting the best for them. She has been working with the senior population since 1997. Kelly is so proud to be a part of Home Instead. Through them, she has the ability to positively impact the lives of our seniors and give them the quality of life that they deserve each day.

Kelly has a loving husband and an amazing daughter. She loves soccer and ice skating, as she was involved with both for many years. Kelly also enjoys going out to different restaurants and trying new foods, seeing movies, and spending time with her friends and family. Life is good!

Tjessom Krista 002

Krista - Office Admin Assistant

Krista moved up to the Portland area in November of 2003 after graduating from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelors in Sociology. She has spent 20 years in the early childhood education field as a teacher, curriculum writer, as well as a preschool director. After leaving that field, she then spent the next 6 years in church offices, helping grow their social media platform and streamlining the websites in addition to administrative duties.  She works here in our office in the afternoons, keeping her mornings free to continue her work at a local church. Krista has what she would say a “loud house full of love.” She has two sons (11 and 14), a lab/wiener mix named Gracie, a chocolate lab puppy named Kaia, a half Maine Coon cat named Maui, a height-loving cat named Kona, and a hamster named Mando(lorian). In her free time, she enjoys being out in or on the water and takes her kayak out as much as possible. She’s a former weightlifter and loves her gym time (therapy).  In the winter, you’ll find her knitting and, in every season, she is crafting jewelry and designing vinyl heat transfer shirts. She’s also a classically trained soprano and sings in a mixed acapella quartet.

She has been on the family side of caregiving and is looking forward to helping build the community here at the 805!

Laura Ramirez, The Ackerly Coordinator

Laura - Satellite Coordinator @ The Ackerly

​Laura was born in Michoacán Mexico. She came to the United States when she was 6 years old and lived in the San Fernando Valley until 1993. Laura came to Oregon in 1993. She has four wonderful kids; three girls and one boy, as well as two grand babies; one girl and one boy. Laura loves spending time with her family. Family is very important to her, so when Laura's mom moves, she moves also to be close to her. She is the reason why Laura came into the caregiving family of Home Instead. When she gets a few minutes for herself Laura loves to read and watch movies/TV shows.

Mercy - Recruitment & Engagement Coordinator

Mercy was working as a visiting nurse in her native El Salvador. She later received a degree in Business Administration and worked many years in the private sector. When she moved to the US, she settled on the east coast and worked as a nanny for many years. After a brief stint in California, she moved to Oregon in 2005 where she once again worked as a nanny. Mercy continued her love of learning and completed course work in computer accounting in 2013 and human resource management at Portland State University (2020).  She began working for DHS (2013 to 2019 ). Most recently Mercy worked as a caregiver at an assisted living facility . She has two children and two grandchildren. She believes “Love” is the most important in the life.

Nicole - Finance Manager

Nicole grew up in Minnesota and has been living in Oregon for roughly 12 years. Nicole has a Bachelor of Science in Finance and worked in the financial industry prior to joining Home Instead in 2011. She has worked for franchises in Beaverton and Hillsboro prior to joining the 805. Outside of work Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, photography, reading self-help books, watching sunsets, and taking walks. She especially loves taking walks on the beach during sunset.
Clement Staci 1

Staci - General Manager

​Staci is a Bend, Oregon native. She and her two girls (15 and 17) and her enjoy everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer. She moved to the Portland area two years ago. She is an avid outdoor enthusiast who loves to hike, snow ski and enjoys summer lake days with her family. Staci's career in healthcare began over ten years ago in community-based health. While helping her own family navigate her father's care after he was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2013, she was moved to make the transition into helping other seniors and their families. Before joining the Home Instead family, she most recently worked as the Admissions Director for a skilled nursing facility. Staci is passionate about providing the best care and customer service to her clients and their families. Helping seniors remain in their home as long as possible and help preserve their quality of life is something she finds extremely rewarding.

Stephanie - Front Desk Coordinator

Stephanie recently graduated from the University of Oregon this year with a Bachelor’s in Family and Human Services and minor in Psychology. She has a passion for helping others and hope to do clinical social work in the near future. She grew up in Beaverton. In her free time, she likes to go to concerts, hang out with friends and family, and check out new restaurants. Some of her favorite artists are Harry Styles and Billie Eilish. She has a dog named Lucky, who was her first pet and is 9 years old!

Susan Hill, Human Resources Coordinator

Susan - Human Resources Coordinator

Susan was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, as her father, a WWII fighter pilot and Korean War vet, followed his military career as a helicopter pilot serving banana plantation owners there. Most of her life, however, has been happily spent, hither and thither, here in the beautiful state of Oregon. Susan enjoys traveling and getaways of all sorts, hiking, reading, and would love to pick up knitting again one day soon. She cherishes her family and friends and has a soft spot for animals – all living things, really. But, then, doesn't everyone? Susan considers her greatest achievement to be successfully home educating her two children from first grade to college entrance. Following that gratifying endeavor, she was a deposition court reporter, also providing real-time captioning services to deaf and hard-of-hearing high school and college students. In recent years, she has enjoyed various roles in Human Resources, including general administrative and benefits administration functions. Susan's strengths are harmony, empathy and connectedness, so people and relationships are her thing! Having come alongside when her parents needed help, she understands the challenges that seniors and their families face and has great admiration for those choosing to serve others through meaningful careers in caregiving. Susan looks forward to both supporting and participating in the Home Instead mission to enhance the lives of seniors and those who care for them.

Taline - Staff Scheduling Coordinator

Taline is a lifelong Oregonian, born and raised in the Oregon City area. After going to cosmetology school, she worked in salons as a stylist for four years, where she had responsibility for scheduling clients with just the right hairstylist. Taline is proud to be a Scheduler at Home Instead as she starts on a different career path. In her free time, she enjoys cosplaying, writing, and watching the same superhero and horror movies over and over again. Her favorite album is Red, by Taylor Swift, which she listens to throughout autumn with her dog, a Pomeranian named Tormund.
