Gadsden April 2021 Professional CAREGiver of the Month - Shane M.

Say hello to Shane, the Gadsden Professional CAREGiverâ„  of the month for April!  Shane has only been with us since February of 2021, but in that time, he has certainly made an impression on his clients and the Home Instead staff.  Shane comes to us from Alabama, where he was the head chef at a restaurant for six years.  He says that the reason he wanted to become a caregiver is a little bit of a sad story, but he thinks it is good to share so that others can learn from his experiences. A few years ago, Shane went on vacation to Florida, where his grandmother lived, and did not make time to go see her.  When he got back home, he found out that his grandma had passed away, and that really struck him and made him want to give back.  Grandma was always the one he would call when there was a problem at the restaurant or anywhere else in his life.

He feels that his grandma could have benefited from the type of senior care he now provides, and it makes him feel good to give back in this way.  Shane gives 100% every day and his supervisor says “Shane has every quality we look for in our Professional CAREGivers.  He is reliable, he takes what we do seriously, and has the best attitude.  He truly has a Caregiving heart!”.

When Shane is not providing top notch care to clients, he can be found rock climbing or at the gym.  He says rock climbing has gotten him over his fear of heights.  He was a chef, so obviously he has can cook a lot of dishes, but he says his signature dish is Chicken Marsala. He can also flip pizza dough in the air, so he is part entertainer too!  He is now a vegetarian and when he goes out to eat, it is normally at an Asian restaurant. He will follow that up with an evening of watching “The Rookie” on TV.

We know Shane’s grandma would be proud of him and we are certainly blessed to have him as a Professional Caregiver.  We hope he continues to bring our clients joy for many years to come!
