Honored Care Pro Rhonda Opens Her Heart

Rhonda Revels’ huge, compassionate heart is open to those who need help, young or old. Anyone who knows Rhonda can tell you: She always has had an empathetic personality. Less than nine months with Home Instead® of Mount Airy, Rhonda was honored as the franchise’s Care Professional of the Month for September.

When someone said, “Rhonda, you are amazing at opposite ends of the caregiving age spectrum,” Rhonda smiled and quietly said, “Well, I guess so. It can get pretty busy sometimes. I’ve always worked in positions where I have been helping people.”

Rhonda knows relationships and nurturing are huge components of senior care and the assistance for other vulnerable adults. Before the COVID-19 pandemic began sweeping through America in March 2020, Rhonda had worked for more than 10 years with adults who have disabilities. Because of the coronavirus, that job ended. Rhonda began a job search on Indeed.com, and on Dec. 27, 2021, she joined the award-winning Home Instead franchise owned by Van and Ann Lankford. Staff Coordinator Sharon Bledsoe announced Rhonda’s employee honor.

“The basic approach to lifting up people is to care about them and for them, and be nice. Everyone has his or her challenges, and you have to understand that and be nice no matter what. The best part of the job is just going in and helping the seniors and making them as comfortable as possible. I want to be their best companion because socialization is so important. I am there to help motivate my clients in positive ways. I want to give them life and joy,” Rhonda said.

Rhonda’s 101-year-old client, a widower whom she has been regularly assisting since August, is fond of her. “He will be 102 on Dec. 10, and he is sharp. He has great stories and can remember when many of the roads near his home were not paved. He reads a lot, and I read to him sometimes. I always have his newspaper ready for him in the morning,” said Rhonda, who assists her client on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rhonda’s client uses a wheelchair but “can still walk a little bit.” Rhonda always is a standby assist on the occasions when her client does walk because of his fear of falling. “I help him shower, and he does fine with that. He can use the restroom on his own. All things considered, he’s in pretty good shape,” Rhonda said. “Helping him is a team effort. He has a daughter who helps, and there is a Home Instead Care Pro with him on weekends.”

Rhonda loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the North Carolina franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pros across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.

“Home Instead is awesome. The office staff is very caring and understanding. I’ve never felt uncomfortable around them. They try to match you with a compatible client, and I appreciate that. They are accommodating. Home Instead is a fine employer,” Rhonda said.
