CAREGiver Cornerstone Story - 4th Quarter 2021

‘Santa?’ Close Enough for a Thrilled Hannah

The 88-year-old Home Instead® client, on an out-of-town trip with her daughter, kept repeating, “Santa, Santa.” The puzzled daughter rolled the beloved holiday name over and over in her mind, and she finally asked her mother, “Do you mean ‘Hannah?’ Are you asking for Hannah?’ ”

The answer was a resounding yes. Hannah McGullion is the client’s Home Instead CAREGiver.

Hannah explained: “I have assisted the client nearly every day since I started with Home Instead last June. She has dementia and usually does not remember my name, which made that particular situation special to me. The daughter said she thought the sound of ‘Santa’ to her mother probably does sound like ‘Hannah.’ It really warmed my heart that she was referring to me and nearly remembered my name.”

Hannah is a memorable person, so much so that she was honored as one of the two CAREGiver Cornerstone Award recipients for the final quarter of 2021 at Home Instead of Jackson and West Tennessee, an award-winning franchise owned by Bryson and Linda McQuiston.

CAREGiver Experience Manager Brooke Childers announced Hannah’s CAREGiver Cornerstone Award, which was revealed a little more than six months after Hannah had joined Home Instead. “At Home Instead,” Brooke said, “our success revolves around our CAREGivers. We celebrate CAREGivers year-round in many ways: a note of appreciation, recognition in our employee newsletter, selection as CAREGiver Cornerstone Award recipients and perhaps an impromptu office party.”

Hannah said: “With Home Instead, I like getting to know my clients and working for a company that really appreciates its employees. I love my job. It is so rewarding taking care of my sweet clients.”

Hannah arrived at Home Instead with plenty of successful professional senior-care experience. “I had moved from Georgia, and I was looking online for jobs when I spotted Home Instead. I have always wanted to try in-home caregiving. I have taken care of people for about seven years, and it’s a job I have always loved. I had always worked in facilities though, so this is my first time working in homes one-on-one with seniors,” Hannah said.

In addition to her strong companionship skills, Hannah provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Hannah offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility assistance. By expertly doing so, Hannah and her fellow CAREGivers not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

Hannah loves being a part of the CAREGiver team for the McQuistons’ franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for older adults, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide care throughout the United States and 13 other countries.

Hannah is among more than 100,000 CAREGivers worldwide, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead’s purpose. Hannah strongly agrees Home Instead’s guiding principles of  “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”
