Hour of Nonstop Number Guessing Thrills Destini, Client

Care Professional Destini Currie and one of her Home Instead® clients eagerly tackle a one-hour home workout on weekday mornings that sometimes taxes their physical and emotional limits while also requiring a strong attention-to-detail skill. All in all, it’s a challenge they wouldn’t miss for the world.

“I have a client who loves to watch ‘The Price is Right,’ and we look forward to watching it every day at 10 a.m. We yell at the television, screaming out numbers. We always say, ‘We need to go on this show’ at least 10 times before the show goes off. I think it makes both of our days a little bit better,” said Destini, who joined Home Instead® of Jackson on Dec. 31, 2021, and brought a strong sense of joy that includes equal parts of smiles, laughter, energy and enthusiasm.

It didn’t take long to notice Destini’s impact at the award-winning franchise owned by Bryson and Linda McQuiston. Less than five months after Destini had been on the job, Care Professional Experience Manager Brooke Childers announced Destini had been honored as one of the franchise’s two Care Pro Cornerstone Award recipients for the first quarter of 2022.

Among the considerations for achieving Care Pro Cornerstone Award status, an employee has shown he or she has gone above and beyond the call of duty, Brooke pointed out. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Destini embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of  “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” She is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client, Brooke emphasized.

In addition to her strong companionship skills, Destini provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Destini offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, Destini and her fellow Care Pros not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

To build on their knowledge and experience, Destini and other Jackson Care Pros are offered the opportunity to increase their dementia-care skills by taking part in the Home Instead network’s one-of-a-kind training protocol. Home Instead’s Person-Centered Care Training for Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association® for incorporating the evidence-based dementia-care practice recommendations in these topic areas: Alzheimer’s and dementia, person-centered care, assessment and care planning, activities of daily living, and behaviors and communication.

Focusing on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped Destini achieve the Care Pro Cornerstone Award.

Destini found Home Instead on Indeed.com when she was looking for a caregiving job with flexible hours. “Before joining Home Instead, I had never worked in professional senior care, so this is my first job in the caregiving field. I was a stay-at-home mom for years after I had my twins,” Destini said.

Her overall working background is very good. Destini is a registered dental assistant, but most of her jobs before Home Instead were in the retail industry. “As a family caregiver, my experience in caregiving is really pretty fair, so I came in the door and put my best foot forward, so to speak. As of now, I am caring for two clients,” Destini said.

Destini added: “I like that fact that I get a chance to help people who can’t help themselves. Helping others has always been a high priority for me.”

Destini loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the West Tennessee franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for older adults, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide care throughout the United States and 13 other countries. Destini is among more than 100,000 Care Professionals worldwide, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead’s purpose.
