May 2021 Professional CAREGiver of the Month - Sondra C.

Congratulations are in order for Sondra Carson, our May CAREGiver of the Month! Sondra is an amazing individual who loves serving others.  It was a personal situation that made her realize how important caregivers truly are.  Read on to learn more about her and her story.

Where were you born?  I was born in Hobart, Oklahoma in 1944.

Where did you grow up? My family moved to Liberal, Kansas where I went to school and graduated in 1962.

How long have you worked at HISC?  I have worked for Home Instead off and on since 2010.

What’s your favorite part of caregiving?
The reason I came to work at Home Instead is because I love the elderly.  When I was a kid, I use to visit all the elderly in my neighborhood. My mother had a caregiver when she aged, and I was so grateful they had this type of service because I lived too far from her and that gave me a comfortable feeling knowing she was well taken care of. I wanted to do that for a living. I saw an advertisement in the newspaper that Home Instead needed help, so I applied, and they hired me. That was the best thing that ever happened! I love my job because my clients are sooo precious! My client is 94 years old and is one of the oldest in that town. She has a sharp mind and can tell the best stories! I love watching "Young and the Restless" and "Bold and the Beautiful ". My little lady and I watch First Baptist Church in Ft Smith every Sunday.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I went to work for Southwestern Bell right out of high school, retired in 2002 in Ft Smith. I married a man with 5 of the most precious kids, too bad I didn't love him as much as I did his kids! They still get in touch with me after 50 years. That marriage is what brought me to Arkansas.  He worked on pipeline, so we moved quite often. After I divorced him, I married my husband of 42 years, he passed away in 2017. We have a daughter and have two grandkids and two great grandkids.   I worked for Home Instead for almost 3 years when my husband got Alzheimer's, so I took a leave for two years then I came back and have worked three more years.

Thank you, Sondra, for being such a fine CAREGiver and representing Home Instead in such a fantastic, loving way.  We know you bring joy to all you serve.  Keep up the great work! We appreciate you and God Bless.
