Frankfort June 2021 Client & CAREGiver Spotlight - Mitchell "McKinley" L. & Judy G.

Meet McKinley and his Professional CAREGiver, Judy, Frankfort’s Client and Professional CAREGiver Spotlight team for June! McKinley was a heavy-duty equipment operator for eight years of his life. He is now blind, but still does mechanic work and is very independent. Judy, his caregiver, cleaned houses for 33 years before taking care of her terminally ill father. It was then she knew she was meant to be a caregiver.

Judy recalls the day she met McKinley with a smile. She said he was making coffee and going up and down stairs but asked if his dog was in the house. Judy did not understand why he would be asking that. After a few hours of being with McKinley, Judy finally got the courage to ask, “McKinley, can I ask you a question?” McKinley replied, “Well I sure wish you would, because you don’t know that I’m blind!”

Judy and McKinley have developed such a special relationship. Judy will label McKinley’s tools with certain tapes so he can feel for the tools he needs. She will stand outside and hand him tools and just be with him while he works on cars. However, sometimes McKinley just wants to do it all on his own and Judy will go clean the house or cook. Judy is so young at heart that McKinley thought she was in her 30’s until she told him she’s actually in her 60’s!

They are both such amazing people and together make a wonderful team. We certainly are glad Judy doesn’t mind to get a little grease on her clothes and we hope this team stays together for many years to come!
