Frankfort June 2021 Professional CAREGiver of the Month - Valena B.
Meet Valena B., the June Professional CAREGiver of the Month for Frankfort! Valena has always been a caregiver. She started out at a nursing home and decided she wanted to do something with a more personal touch. Caregiving runs in her family, as her mother also cared for others. Valena has been with Home Instead since 2020.
Valena has a steady client, Betty, who has dementia and used to intimidate other caregivers. Valena handles Ms. Betty with ease and even answers to the name “Susan” because that is the name Ms. Betty gave her. The pair like to get their hair and nails done together, or sometimes Valena will do that for Ms. Betty herself.
Valena has three children and likes to spend time with them on her days off. They are 6, 3 and 2 years old, so she certainly has her hands full! They like to go to parks, trampoline park and the zoo. If she has a moment to herself, she likes to watch Netflix or read a good mystery. When she is not cooking for all the kids, you may find her eating at Tumbleweed. Valena’s supervisor says, “Valena is always willing to assist, even when it’s short notice. She’s always there for Betty”. We are so proud of the bond between these two and hope they continue “Sharing Their Hearts” for many more years!
