Reed and Kate Kovalan,  Franchise Owners

Reed and Kate Kovalan, Franchise Owners

​Reed and Kate started their Home Instead Senior Care franchise in 2004. In 2012 they expanded and bought a second Home Instead Senior Care franchise. They were drawn to the field based on their respect for our senior population and desire to help. Prior to the Home Instead, Reed was in corporate finance and Kate worked as a CPA. Kate and Reed have been married for 25 years and have four high school and college age kids. In their free time, they are both active with tennis and cooking. Their favorite thing is spending time with the family at the beach.

Cheryl Nemanic, Director of Operations

For over 20 years, Cheryl has focused her career on home care services and seniors. She has managed  both medical and non-medical home care agencies and has owned a home care consulting business. Her passion for assisting seniors and their families inspired her to create a website to provide senior resource information for families and professionals in Southwestern Pennsylvania. In 2008 Cheryl volunteered to start up the Western Pennsylvania Chapter for the Twilight Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization that grants wishes for older adults. She expanded it to cover several counties, and today the organization is still going strong, making wishes come true for senior citizens. Cheryl has been with Home Instead as Director of Operations since 2015 and is very proud of the work that her amazing team does in providing excellent, personalized care for seniors and bringing peace of mind to families. Outside of work hours, you will find Cheryl spending time with her husband, family, friends, and enjoying her grandchildren!

Katie Selph, Client Care Coordinator

Katie Selph has been with Home Instead in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, since May of 2019. She has worked in the Home Health Care Industry for over 10 years, helping seniors to remain independent in their homes, and supporting families as they navigate their way through the process of taking care of an aging loved one. She returned home to Pittsburgh, after 15 years in Atlanta, Georgia (with five of those years with Home Instead Senior Care of Gainesville). She loves to spend time with family, especially her two grandchildren, and take walks with her dog, Bentley.

Jessica Rudy, Client Care Coordinator

Jessica has spent 15+ years in diverse areas of the healthcare field beginning in 2004 as a Recreational Therapist. She went on to spend time in long-term care operations, social work, personal care home settings, Alzheimer’s specialty care, education, and support, as well as hospice services. Patient satisfaction and education have always been a top priority during her entire career; feeling most fulfilled helping patients and families make informed decisions during some of their most difficult times. When not at work Jessica enjoys spending time with her family and her pooch, Obie, as well as reading, watching movies, and planning road trips to new destinations!

Caitlin Larkin, Client Care Coordinator

Caitlin grew up in the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Penn State University. Before coming to Home Instead in 2021, she worked as a social worker for a foster care agency. She is very excited to be a part of the Home Instead team, and to have the opportunity to help seniors get quality care. In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants and spending time with her family, friends, and two cats. 

Kathy Geiger new

Kathy Geiger, Service Inquiry Specialist

Kathy joined the Home Instead Team in July of 2020 as the Service Inquiry Specialist. She is the initial point of contact for families for the Kovalans’ three Home Instead Franchises.  Kathy enjoys speaking with the family members and is responsible for scheduling care consultations for the Client Care Coordinators.  She has worked as a customer sales and service trainer for many years, and most recently as a travel agent. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with her sons, family and friends.

Michele Myers, Lead Scheduling Coordinator

Michele Myers came to Home Instead in 2014 after closing the business she owned and operated for 22 years. She was hired as the administrative assistant and remained in this position for three years. During that time, a staffing coordinator position opened up and she transferred to the staffing department. Having had the experience of managing her own business, she was asked to manage the department six months later. Michele and her team are responsible for creating and managing the schedules of both clients and caregivers. Our staffing department works seven days a week and is always striving to make the perfect match between the two. Michele is very passionate about her position at Home Instead, but first and foremost is her family. She is married and has three daughters; her twin girls who are both in college and another daughter will be graduating this year. Family is her number one priority and she loves being the mother of three daughters.

Sandy Bennett,  Scheduling Coordinator

Sandy Bennett, Scheduling Coordinator

Sandy Bennett currently works in the scheduling department as a scheduling coordinator. She has an Associate's Degree in Applied Sciences for Mechanical Drafting and 11 years in that field. She also has Caregiver experience as a CNA with ManorCare in Whitehall and Jefferson Hospital. She worked for the hospital for 12 years, with 10 of those years in the laboratory, where she became Team Lead for the Accessioning Department and also certified as a Phlebotomist. Sandy has 2 children who are both married, and one very rambunctious little grandson at 2 1/2 years old. She very much enjoys spending as much time with her family as possible. Some of her favorite things to do are spending time in the garden, crafts, bicycle riding with her husband on the trails, listening to music, and baking. (Sandy is pictured with her grandson).

Denise Wright, Scheduling Coordinator

Denise has worked in the healthcare field for 31 years. She has worked in the hospital for most of her career, but has spent the last 13 in staffing in the homecare area. She enjoys working with seniors in the homecare setting, as it enables her to "assure that our senior population is well cared for and respected." Denise has been married for 26 years and has 2 children, a 24 year old daughter and 21 year old son. (Denise is pictured with her daughter).

Jackie Moore,  On-Call Coordinator

Jackie Moore, On-Call Coordinator

Jackie Grew up in Pittsburgh; she attended Penn State University and graduated with a degree in Behavioral Health. Jackie is married to her husband Cory and is the mother of 2 toddlers, Braden and Mia. She loves spending time with her family. Additionally, she spends her free time being involved in her kids' activities, traveling, baking, and skiing. (Jackie is pictured with her husband and 2 kids).

DJ Hoffman,  Human Resources Manager

DJ Hoffman, Human Resources Manager

DJ Hoffman joined the Home Instead Senior Care team in July 2016 as the HR Coordinator. He was later promoted to the HR Manager position in October 2019. His background is in Meteorology--he could tell you every cloud in the sky if he wanted too! Originally from the Philadelphia area, he moved to Pittsburgh in 2014. Go Eagles! He oversees the Human Resources Department and the CAREGivers working in the field. As DJ says, "Our HR Department is hard at work finding talented new CAREGivers and supporting our current employees!" DJ ensures that our CAREGivers know our policies and procedures, evaluations, time off requests, and benefits. DJ is a positive person with an upbeat personality who loves to help others. DJ enjoys spending time with his family and his two dogs during this free time. He loves walking his dogs around his neighborhood or taking them to a pool to swim! His passion for helping people has lead him to love his job here at Home Instead Senior Care.


Ella Mae Hall, Human Resources Assistant

Ella Mae has worked with Home Instead Senior Care since October 2019.  She is currently an HR assistant and is responsible for recruiting and hiring caregivers as well as time off requests, payroll questions, and employment verifications.  She has always enjoyed working with people and strives to make a difference in their lives.  Ella Mae was a pastor for 13 years and worked for a mental health agency for 24 years as a Facilities Manager.  Fortunate to have been blessed to be married for 40 years, she and her husband have a daughter, son-in-law, and a grandson who is a senior at Westminster College.

Stephen 2

Stephen Karel, Human Resources Coordinator & Recruiter

Stephen grew up in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and has been in the Home Care field since graduating in 2016. He joined the Home Instead team in 2021 and works with our HR department and with recruiting. If you are interested in a caregiver position with us, Stephen is the person to call! In his free time he enjoys Pittsburgh Sports, movies, and video games.

Brandy 2

Brandy Darwin, Human Resources Coordinator & Recruiter

Brandy has worked in the mainly behavioral aspect of the homecare field for 17 years, primarily with senior citizens, including those with dementia. She has also worked with children diagnosed with autism.

Brandy received a BS degree in Hotel Restaurant/Travel Tourism management, but discovered that her true passion is recruiting in the healthcare profession. She thoroughly enjoys being a part of an organization that has compassion for others, values family, builds great relationships, and shows respect for others.

When she’s not working, Brandy loves spending time with family and competing with her sisters in cook-off challenges. Brandy strongly believes that the way to their hearts is a good meal prepared by her.

Robin new

Robin Watts, Training Coordinator

Robin has worked in the healthcare field for 44 years as a Registered Nurse, caring for home health and hospice patients as well as managing physician office practices. She has worked for 20 plus years as an Educator/Trainer and her passion is helping others grow and reach their full potential. Robin has a small farm and enjoys spending time with her horses and other pets, visiting with her grandchildren and gardening. Robin chose Home Instead because of the great teamwork, kind and caring co-workers and the positive and uplifting work environment.

Shanna 2

Shanna Rastetter, Billing Specialist

Shanna started with Home Instead in 2018.  She works diligently in the Billing and Payroll department to make sure all accounts are in order, for our clients and CAREgivers. Shanna has personal experience with needing in-home care, after suffering from a brain injury herself. "I relate to those who depend on someone else's assistance so that they are able to rehabilitate or just live their normal day to day routine. I am grateful for the role in a company that helps provide care to people in need." She is a mother of 3, so when she is not working, she is always on the go! (Shanna is pictured with her husband and 3 kids).

Sean Farren,  Administrative Assistant

Sean Farren, Administrative Assistant

Sean was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and is a graduate of Marquette University. Throughout his career, he has worn many hats in various industries such as banking, retail, management, and sales. Prior to joining Home Instead Senior Care as an administrative assistant, Sean was a travel agent for several years and currently lives with his wife and two precocious dogs.
