Ivan Is a Hit in His First Attempt at Senior Care

Last fall, Ivan Moya dived into something he’d never done: Senior care. Ivan hadn’t even helped elderly family members because they were gone before he had the opportunity to be of service. In October 2020, the nursing student at Texas Tech University viewed a Home Instead® CAREGiver job more as an opportunity than a challenge. In April 2021, Ivan was honored as CAREGiver of the Month at the award-winning franchise owned by Tracy and Terry Baugh.

Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Juanita Camacho said: “When Ivan joined our Home Instead CAREGiver team, he quickly proved to be a wonderful asset to the company as well as the clients. Ivan joined us to enhance his passion for caring for others and get the hands-on experience to advance his future as a medical professional. Ivan is an extraordinary young man who will go the extra mile to assist our clients and to bring peace of mind to the clients’ families. Ivan is kind, caring, selfless, sympathetic, comforting and considerate.”

Ivan said: “I have been a Home Instead CAREGiver for about half a year now, and I have spent every minute of this job doing something I love.”

A friend in one of Ivan’s college classes touted Home Instead as an employer. The classmate, noting Ivan is a nursing major, figured Ivan and Home Instead would be a good match. “She believed I could gain experience by joining Home Instead. Beyond loving to help and giving back to my community, it would look great on my resume,” Ivan said.

He explained further: “Since I am a nursing major, it is recommended I get as much exposure and experience to a clinical setting as possible. Other than this job, I have not had any other previous background in caregiving. I have never taken care of family members, but I have always had a calling from God to help others. I’ve obtained numerous community service hours and have been a part of many community service projects as I’ve always wanted to lend a helping hand to others.”

Juanita pointed out Ivan frequently helps when asked to take a last-minute assignment. She said he’s never become complacent. “Ivan believes in challenging himself daily to make a difference in the lives of our aging adults. Ivan treats everyone with respect and dignity. He quickly wins over the trust of clients and families. He has an infectious smile that lights up a room and always has a kind word to share. Ivan’s positive attitude generates confidence in his ability to assist any client he is assigned. We are so blessed to have Ivan on our team,” Juanita said.

Ivan feels blessed by his interactions with the franchise’s clients and their family members, noting that getting to know people and learning how best to serve them is what he likes most about his job. “I love the connections and relationships I form with the people and families I get to touch through my work,” Ivan said.

“My first client had passed away after a lengthy battle with a sickness. His daughter was very vocal about the extensive care and the watchful eye I provided over him over his last moments of life. I just want to say thank you for this opportunity, and I am extremely grateful to be called CAREGiver of the Month! I just try to help in any way I can.”
