Care Professional Experiences

"For the last six years, I have been taking care of an elderly man in his 80's who has dementia and diabetes, but also has an incredible love of music and an amusing sense of humor. My work is mostly night shifts when I make sure he is monitored, clean, comfortable, and hopefully peaceful, accompanied by music from Music Choice Classical Ch 448! He loves it when the song 'Chiqitita' from the play, Mama Mia, comes on as we wait for the next caregiver to make him "Brek," short for breakfast. We get his little doggie's tail wagging, and hands conducting! Speaking of his doggie, "Tookie," something I was glad to learn is the real comfort and calm an animal like a doggie, that is soft and doesn't give any back talk, can be to a client like this fellow. I learned Spanish at Penn State University from a good teacher, and it really helps with giving clear directions. He understands and speaks more English than I would have guessed which was another learning experience for me:" Don't underestimate your client, no matter his or her problems." Home Instead is a dedicated, caring and quality agency, and I am committed to continue caring for my client, and/or other clients with this wonderful agency/staff. My musical theme as a caregiver is "do little things well, with lots of love."

"I have been working at Home Instead as an in-home caregiver for close to 8 years. My daily tasks are cooking, lite housekeeping and assisting with the daily overall well-being of my clients. l find each day to be personally rewarding. I enjoy listening to the stories of their past, where they grew up and where they have traveled. I have learned everyone wants to hold onto their homes and independence for as long as possible. I take pride in helping them to achieve that!"

"I have been a Care Professional for 6 months through Home Instead. This profession is new to me but Home Instead helped train me throughout and has been an excellent resource. The office always has a pleasant, welcoming, and helpful atmosphere. Working for them has been a wonderful experience. Working in this field is rewarding as you are making a difference in the lives of the families you care for. It is especially nice when families express their gratitude to you. You feel like part of the family, both with clients and the Home Instead team."

"Care giving is a gift! Besides assisting my clients with their required tasks such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminder, personal hygiene, running errands, providing transportation to appointments, companionship, supervision, transfers and ambulation, etc., small gestures such as arranging a bouquet of flowers, singing a song, cracking a joke, sharing a nice or funny video will definitely brighten up their day. As I am approaching my 6th year anniversary as a Home Instead Care Professional, nothing is more rewarding and fulfilling than caring and helping the elderlies to make them feel safe, loved and special! I am still learning and continuing to improve myself through my interaction with my clients and with the support of Home Instead staff, which has a good reputation in senior care services, because making a difference in someone's life matters!”

"I really enjoy my job with Home Instead! I have learned so much from my clients when they talk about the jobs they had when younger. Some have done more than I could ever imagine doing. They also enjoy talking about all their travels, which I enjoy listening to. I have learned so much from them. They all become part of my extended family and I with theirs."
