Meet Our Home Care Team

Andrew Garrean, Owner

Andrew graduated from Baylor University in 1994 and planned on becoming the next advertising guru. While working in advertising his grandmother become ill which turned into almost a full-time family caregiver position for his mother. After witnessing the rewards and difficulties of caring for a loved one at home he sought a position at Home Instead Senior Care's home office in Omaha. In 1999, Andrew managed the original Home Instead office and became very passionate about keeping seniors at home. His passion lies in finding long term in-home solutions that will improve and enhance a senior's quality of life while preserving dignity. In 2001, he was offered a promotion into Omaha's corporate Home Instead office but declined to open the Tulsa franchise. Andrew prides himself on being the longest tenured owner in home care in the Tulsa area, being in business since November 2001. He loves the fact that Home Instead has made such a difference in the Tulsa community for so long. Outside of work Andrew enjoys record collecting, live music, golf, cooking and wine, dogs, and travel.

Shelly Chalakee, Weekend Administrative Assistant

My hobbies include spending time with my grand-kids and going fishing with my son.  I try to spend as much time with my parents as I can.  They are very close to me, and I am very fortunate to still have them… happy and healthy.  I also have two sisters that are older.  Joannie lives in Grove, OK.  She works with the elderly in her town to make sure they have at least two good meals a day at a center where she works.  My middle sister Diana lives in Lewisville, TX.  She is fortunate enough to get to stay at home and help her 6 children….yes, I said six. She watches her grand-kids to help her kids get through college.

Professionally I am currently a full time Court Clerk for The City of Broken Arrow.  If you get a traffic violation in Broken Arrow you will probably see my smiling face at the pay window or in court.  I have always worked a part time job being a single mom.  I wanted to work for Home Instead to feel like I am making a difference.  Thank you for welcoming me so graciously.  I am looking forward to being a part of such a great team.

Darnella McFarland, LPN Client Care Coordinator

I was born and raised in Detroit, MI where I resided until approximately a year ago when I moved to Oklahoma. I was on a career path of becoming a medical transcriptionist. I had no aspirations to become a nurse, though I was being groomed for it, from an early age, while I was helping to take care of my favorite aunt, who was handicapped. My journey into nursing started when a friend of mine got a job as a nursing assistant, and I thought, if she could do it, then I could too, and that was the beginning of my new career. I worked as a nurse assistant for 10 years before I went on to become a LPN. My motivation to further my career came when I became pregnant with my daughter, Angel, my pride, and joy. I attended J.T.P.A. School of Practical Nursing, in Michigan. I have served as a LPN for over 20 years, where most of my career has been served in Skilled, Long-term care and memory care, however, I have worked in assisted living and home care, as well. I enjoy crossword puzzles as well as 1000 or more-piece jigsaw puzzles of landscapes, Thomas Kincade is my favorite. I enjoy going out socializing and having a good time with a group of friends, as well as traveling.

Tabitha Rutger, RN, Client Care Coodinator

Tabitha was born and raised in Georgia. She grew up on a small farm with her mom, grandparents AND great grandparents all together but in separate homes. She LOVED spending time with them and caring for them as they grew older. “I will always cherish those times. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized how lucky we all were to have each other so close, but it wasn’t always easy! I hope that this job will give me a chance to make it easier for families who need some respite care but what I look forward to most is the connections I will make as I learn about each client!

Tabitha moved to California to spend time with her other grandpa for college. Because of him, She has been a registered nurse since 2007 with a passion for teaching. She homeschools her 4 small children and loves spending times exploring new places. She just moved here to Tulsa in August 2021 and is very excited to meet new people and explore the beauty of Oklahoma.
