Reed Kovalan - Franchise Owner

Reed Kovalan, Franchise Owner

Reed and his wife, Kate, started their Home Instead Senior Care franchise in 2004. In 2012 they expanded and bought a second Home Instead Senior Care franchise. They were drawn to the field based on their respect for our senior population and desire to help. Prior to the Home Instead, Reed was in corporate finance and Kate worked as a CPA. Kate and Reed have been married for 25 years and have four high school and college age kids. In their free time, they are both active with tennis and cooking. Their favorite thing is spending time with their family at the beach.

Cheryl Nemanic, Director of Operations

Cheryl has focused her career with seniors and home care services for over 20 years, managing both medical and non-medical home care agencies. In addition, she owned a home care consulting business and created a website to provide information and resources for caregivers in Southwestern Pennsylvania. In 2008 Cheryl volunteered to start up the Western Pennsylvania Chapter for the Twilight Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization that grants wishes for older adults, and she expanded it to cover several counties. This organization is still going strong and making wishes come true for senior citizens. Cheryl has been in her current position as Director of Operations since 2015, and is very proud of the outstanding work her team at Home Instead Senior Care does, providing care to seniors at home, and bringing peace of mind to families. In her spare time, you will find Cheryl with her husband, friends and family, and enjoying her grandchildren!

Sharon Reel

Sharon Reel, Client Care Coordinator

Sharon has worked for Home Instead Senior Care since 2007. Sharon began as a CAREGiver, then moved into the role of a Staffing Coordinator, and now works as a Client Care Coordinator. She enjoys being part of a great team and touching the lives of seniors daily. "The best feeling in the world is when a prospective Client's family exhales with relief at a Care Consultation knowing we can lessen their load." Sharon's background is in Special Education, but her passion has always been seniors. As a child, two of her best friends growing up were over 80 years old. Sharon has been happily married for 31 years and is the mother to 3 adult children and her 4-year-old sweet granddaughter. Sharon has an energetic 3-year old Border Collie to keep her busy, and enjoys hosting many family parties including murder mystery dinners, costumes included!

Patti Yeager, Client Care Coordinator

Patti has worked in the home care industry for the last 17 years. During that time, she held a variety of positions including Client Care. Patti says that there is no better feeling than helping a family as they care for their aging loved ones. Patti attended CCAC for Business Management, and before that worked in both home care and facility setting as a CNA. She has been married to her husband for 33 years and has 2 grown daughters and 5 amazing grandchildren. In her spare time she loves to camp and spend time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Kathy Geiger new

Kathy Geiger, Service Inquiry Specialist

Kathy joined the Home Instead Team in July of 2020 as the Service Inquiry Specialist. She is the initial point of contact for families for the Kovalans’ three Home Instead Franchises.  Kathy enjoys speaking with the family members and is responsible for scheduling care consultations for the Client Care Coordinators.  She has worked as a customer sales and service trainer for many years, and most recently as a travel agent. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with her sons, family and friends.

Carolynn Bestwick, Scheduling Coordinator

Carolynn Bestwick joined the Home Instead team in 2021 as a scheduling coordinator. She has been in the homecare setting since 2013. She is responsible for managing the caregivers’ schedules and making good caregiver matches for our seniors. Carolynn has always loved taking care of others. She spends her free time with her fiancé and their two sons. Her boys are her number one priority, and they enjoy swimming, vacationing, and playing sports.

Christina Saylor 2

Christina Saylor, Scheduling Coordinator

Christina joined Home Instead in 2021 as a Care Professional and became a Staffing Coordinator in 2022. She has many years of private caregiving experience, and her grandfather is the inspiration behind her education and career goals that focuses on servicing the older adult population and effectively meeting their needs. She earned a Bachelors in Psychology with a concentration and specialization in Mental Health and Aging from Southern New Hampshire University in 2022. Christina is dedicated to working effectively with Care Professionals, and Key Players to ensure that the best care is provided to our seniors. Senior care is what she is most passionate about and really takes to heart the Home Instead moto of “to us it’s personal”. Outside of work, she is a “sports mom” who is cheering on her very active daughter in her various sports and often volunteers her free time to helping with sports boosters and at fundraising events and games. She also enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their blended family on the weekends and reading novels.

Mary Jo Seifert - On-Call Supervisor

Mary Jo Seifert, On-Call Supervisor

Mary Jo has worked as the after-hours On-Call Supervisor with Home Instead Senior Care for over ten years and has worked in the medical field for over 15 years. She has 4 adult children and currently resides with her youngest son, Spencer, Skylynn the dog, and their cat named Mystery. MJ loves to spend her free time at her family camp in Slippery Rock where she crochets and does other crafts. Mary Jo says, "It's funny because a lot of the time I don't always get to meet the CAREGivers in person. I just talk with them over the phone. But I can still form a close relationship with them, and that means a lot to me."

Mike Rachlin, HR Manager

Mike was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. While studying at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), he met his wife Natalie, and together they relocated to Pittsburgh after graduating in 2021. Prior to joining Home Instead Senior Care, Mike worked as a recruitment lead in the logistics industry. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, traveling, going to comedy clubs with his wife, and caring for his dog, Reg.

Ella Mae Hall - Scheduling Coordinator

Ella Mae Hall, Human Resources Assistant

Ella Mae has worked with Home Instead Senior Care since October 2019. She is responsible for matching our caregivers to the clients we service as well as schedule assignments on a daily basis. She has always enjoyed working with people and strives to make a difference in their lives. Ella Mae was a pastor for 13 years and worked for a mental health agency for 24 years as a Facilities Manager. Fortunate to have been blessed to be married for 39 years, she and her husband have a daughter, son-in-law, and a grandson who will be a junior next year at Westminster College.

Stephen 2

Stephen Karel, Human Resources Coordinator & Recruiter

Stephen grew up in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and has been in the Home Care field since graduating in 2016. He joined the Home Instead team in 2021 and works with our HR department and with recruiting. If you are interested in a caregiver position with us, Stephen is the person to call! In his free time he enjoys Pittsburgh Sports, movies, and video games.

Brandy 2

Brandy Darwin, Human Resources Coordinator & Recruiter

Brandy has worked in the mainly behavioral aspect of the homecare field for 17 years, primarily with senior citizens, including those with dementia. She has also worked with children diagnosed with autism.

Brandy received a BS degree in Hotel Restaurant/Travel Tourism management, but discovered that her true passion is recruiting in the healthcare profession. She thoroughly enjoys being a part of an organization that has compassion for others, values family, builds great relationships, and shows respect for others.

When she’s not working, Brandy loves spending time with family and competing with her sisters in cook-off challenges. Brandy strongly believes that the way to their hearts is a good meal prepared by her.

Robin new

Robin Watts, R.N., Training and Retention Manager

Robin has worked in the healthcare field for 44 years as a Registered Nurse, caring for home health and hospice patients as well as managing physician office practices. She has worked for 20 plus years as an Educator/Trainer and her passion is helping others grow and reach their full potential. Robin has a small farm and enjoys spending time with her horses and other pets, visiting with her grandchildren and gardening. Robin chose Home Instead because of the great teamwork, kind and caring co-workers and the positive and uplifting work environment.
