I joined Home Instead over 3 years ago. From the time I was 15, I’ve always had a job but nothing compares or even comes close to working with Home Instead! It’s given me a whole new LIFE! I love getting up in the morning knowing that I’m going to make a difference each and every day I work. Home Instead has brought so much happiness back into my life. Getting to help my clients with everyday needs and care and companionship is so rewarding! 2020 was a very hard year for a lot of people and working for this company made me feel like I was so needed and appreciated. From my coworkers to my bosses I have always had their support and help. Home Instead not only gives you clients but they make sure that you’re a great fit for these clients so that you can build a great relationship with them as well. They cheer you on and always let you know that you’re so appreciated! I want to thank Home Instead for changing my life for the better! And to all the staff and coworkers we ARE A FAMILY!

FAQs
Professional Caregiving Q&A

A: I make scheduled visits to seniors’ homes to provide companionship and help them with everyday tasks. Sometimes that means going to their family home, and other times it means serving them in a care facility.

A: Every day is different, and I love that variety! One day I might be cooking lunch and playing cards with a client, and the next day I may be helping a different client. No matter what tasks I’m performing, I leave each shift with a deep sense of accomplishment.

A: I feel valued in my role as a Home Instead Care Pro, I have access to great training and support to help me do my job well and make a difference every day in the lives of the clients I support.

Every day and every client is different! I work with one to two clients a day and I help them with various activities of their daily living to help keep them at Home. There is a diverse set of clients at Home Instead who can range from low needs to higher, more complex needs. With clients, I do tasks such as showering, meal preparation, medication administration, companionship Dementia Care, memory care, and toileting. I can see clients all over Calgary and its surrounding areas and I can work with clients in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and overnight. A vital part of my role as a Care Professional is relationship building with the seniors. It is important that I see the same rotation of clients every week and am able to solidify a quality relationship with them built on trust, communication, connection, and respect. This is the key to high quality Home Care!

As a Care Professional you have access to an office support line 24 hours of the day, 7 days a week. Even if I am working in the middle of the night, I can call the office and a manager will be there to answer and assist me with any concerns I have. Home Instead does not use call centres, rather, they always have local managers on call that are readily available to coach me through any situation that I may be in. I also have the opportunity to receive ongoing training from the office, some of the training programs they offer are dementia training, lift training, Parkinson’s Care, and personal care training so I can provide the best Home Care. We also have client care coordinators who spend time in the community in order to ensure that all clients care needs are being met and that I have the skills I need.

At Home Instead Calgary, we are not just looking for experience, instead we are looking for someone who has a genuine heart and wants to provide the best home care possible to our clients. It is amazing if you have a background in healthcare, but it is not necessary as we will give you the training that is needed to work with our clients. Three main requirements would be that all applicants must have their class 5 driver's license, a dedicated vehicle, and a clear criminal background check. If you meet these, we would love to hear from you!
