June 2021 CAREGiver of the Month – Karen B.
Karen joined Home Instead in September 2019 and has been an awesome addition, working with some of our most memorable clients! With 33 years of experience in the healthcare field including as a CNA, X-ray Tech, and healthcare admin, Karen feels helping others is just what she has always wanted to do. She is passionate about helping older adults live safely at home, which is what she enjoys most about being a professional caregiver.
Karen has developed close relationships with many of her clients and has some great stories and fond memories of the times they have spent together. Asked to share one of her favorites, Karen recalls a time when a regular client asked her to take a photo of her after they’d been walking outdoors in the wind. The client’s hair was a bit disheveled, so Karen gently suggested she look in the mirror and decide if she still wanted the photo taken. As both possess a healthy sense of humor, the client and Karen erupted in giggles over this and wisely postponed the photo session until another time. Says Karen, “It was a fun and hilarious time for us!”
A proud mom of three grown children, and with an expansive education in both healthcare and culinary arts (including time as a professional chef!), Karen states that not too many things surprise her anymore. Thank you, Karen, for bringing your expertise, kind heart, and great sense of humor to Home Instead!
