August 2021 CAREGiver of the Month – Jan S.
Jan joined Home Instead in April 2020 after her job working for Jeffco schools was suspended due to Covid. Her daughter works part-time for us and thought Jan might enjoy it, so she jumped right in and realized professional caregiving was her new career!
What Jan enjoys most about being a Home Instead caregiver is getting to know her clients and their families, then finding out how she can make their life easier with her skills and personality. When asked to share a favorite caregiving experience Jan tells of a client who can no longer read as she cannot hold a book. So now Jan reads to her putting emphasis on her words as though she’s acting out the parts and they have great time together. Jan explains, “who would have guessed that reading a book was a talent that made me a star to someone, but that’s how I feel!”
Originally from Illinois, Jan was a medical assistant 25 years, then accounts payable for a real estate developer before her job at Jeffco helping special needs children. Jan is married with 2 daughters, 6 grandkids, a great-granddaughter, 3 step-grandchildren and a 94-year-old mother still thriving independently at home! Jan finds it very rewarding as a caregiver to help others achieve this same goal. In her free time Jan enjoys hiking, biking, and exercising, loves reading and doing jigsaw puzzles.
