We started using Home Instead (in Union City) for my mom about 4 months ago and it was a great decision. My mom has aphasia and does not speak well. All of her caregivers have been kind and compassionate, and treat her with respect. They are very patient and make a real effort to understand what my mom is trying to say.
Before we started using Home Instead, we were worried that caregivers would take advantage of my mom’s difficulty communicating. That is no longer a concern. All the caregivers have been very honest and trustworthy. Here is one example – the day after Christmas, a caregiver texted me to let me know that my mom handed her $40 (I assume as a Christmas gift). The caregiver did not take the money and told my mom to never give money to caregivers.
Plus the office staff responds quickly any time I have a question or a request.
I worry less and sleep better knowing that the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead are there to help out.
Shannon is very knowledgeable and patient. What is most important is she does care about patients.

She makes sure that every client that is under her branch are well taken care of. She has the best support staff and they make sure that they make you feel valued. They go above and beyond what is asked of them and for that, they are greatly appreciated. Lastly, their prices are very fair. Our 86 year old mother received wonderful care by Home Instead Senior Care for approximately one and a half years. She has recently moved into a full-time memory care facility. Yes, we too were skeptical that our mother would ever be willing to accept anyone coming into her home to offer assistance, especially when she was insistent she could do everything she always had done for nearly 50 years! When we met Shannon Chan, we were immediately impressed with her knowledge, compassion, and genuine understanding of our mother's feelings and reluctance. She was always gentle, soft spoken, kind and respectful to her. Eventually, even our mother changed her own perspective and accepted the help of the caregivers. Shannon gave her the time she needed to reach this place on her own, and it gave us great comfort knowing she was in good hands. She and her staff were always available, receptive and patient with our questions, concerns or requests. I would highly recommend Home Instead Senior Care (Union City). We were in need of in-home care for my 88 year-old father who is in the beginning stages of dementia. We’ve had experience with other caregiving businesses and, comparatively, the Home Instead owner, Shannon, and her staff were very well qualified to answer all our questions, put our minds at ease, and have the patience to help us work through some unique situations. Shannon is such a caring person who has the ability to get a good read of the situation and then gently make suggestions to those who may not be ready to make changes. She did an initial home visit to gather information and explain the details of what they provide and the costs, with no pressure to make a decision on the spot. She and the office staff were then wonderful with follow-through and regularly checked-in to see how things were going from our perspective. With any caregiving service, the variable will be with the individual day-to-day providers. The ones we had were kind and seemed to be well-trained. My suggestion to anyone utilizing in-home care is to remember that the caregiver is working for you, so it’s ok to let them know what you do/don’t want and request a different caregiver if one doesn’t seem to be a good fit for the needs of your situation. Although we’re no longer receiving services from Home Instead, without a doubt if the need arises again, we’ll seek out Home Instead (Union City) again!

Home Instead Senior Care provided competent care giver for someone on hospice. The care provided comfort and basic needs, albeit a very short course. I would enlist this service again, if needed.

My mom is a high functioning senior. Her caregiver "Marilyn" is there for her to assist her in her everyday tasks such as, Dr. appointments, errands, shopping and even playing cards! Mom was reluctant to have someone come in her home like many other "older" folks! However, now my mom looks forward to her visits. Marilyn is dependable and very sweet to our mom. My siblings and I still work full time so having Marilyn caring for our mom has given us a breather. The service Home Instead has given us the gift to enjoy our mom and to know how well she is being taken care of!
My elderly mother was reluctant to have someone help her in her home, but her children are not close enough to check in on her two or three times a week. She finally agreed to accept the help. Home Instead met with her and then called me with their recommendations and developed the service plan. Within a week or two of service the staff had helped mom clean out her refrigerator, plan and set aside some meals, set up a pill taking schedule and organize pills, among other tasks. This was so helpful and welcome during the brief period we were waiting for mom to be able to enter an assisted living community. The billing was clear and accurate.
Hired Home Instead Senior Care for my father and mother. Shannon, the owner, worked hard for us to find the right fit. It was our first time and my parents were reluctant. We did have some stumbles with caregivers that were well meaning, but didn't fit our family. But eventually they gave us three who my dad relied on and looked forward to seeing. Monica, Ripal and Arafeh were wonderful with us and have become friends. Our caregiver was there when my dad passed away. They came to his funeral as did Shannon. They became part of the family and showed that they really cared about us. I took away one star, because not every match was a great one. But the whole team tried to make it right. This organization is amazing. I live on the east coast and have worked in long term care for 10 years. My single brother had back surgery and needed help at home, but didn't decide that until after the surgery. I called the Union City Home Instead and within three hours, Shannon had someone picking up his medication at the drug store and helping my brother into bed with clean sheets which she had quickly made up. I was desperate to help and thousands of miles away. They assisted him for 4 days and he was mesmerized by their competency and personality. We highly recommend this Home Instead for help for yourself or a loved one.
Amazing service and sensitivity, all the way from the initial conversations around services offered, to Johnny coming to the hospital to meet my mom with dementia, to the amazing caregivers Denita and Kushmir... thank you!!! When my mom was ready to be discharged from the skilled nursing home, I called Home Instead Inc. to look for a care-giver to take care of my mom at home. After talking to Johnny at the office about the services they provide, I had a good feeling about this company. On the same day, Shannon came to the nursing home to visit my mom. I have used Home Instead Senior Care for my parents for over three years. The caregivers are well trained and compassionate. The owner, Shannon, matches the personality and expectation of the client with the caregiver. What impresses me the most is the quality assurance meeting that is held every three months. At that meeting Shannon talks with client and relatives. She evaluates the needs of the client, makes recommendations, and asks if there is anything that needs to be done or changes needed. I feel that Home Instead provides high quality and personalized care. Shannon and her staff treats each client as family and will visit them in the hospital or rehab if they are admitted there. My sisters and I have been using Home Instead for the care of our father for several months. Shannon Chan came out the the house and to personally set up the arrangement we were asking for. The care givers are excellent, thorough and pleasant. They do the physical exercises with Dad as well as assist with meal preparations. I called upon Home Instead during my Mother's home hospice care. Shannon was very caring and compassionate from the moment we first met. In a day, Johnny and our caregiver Denise arrived at our house with great humility for introductions and to meet our dear Mother. Denise arrived early for her shift and she was very caring, supportive and experienced taking care of my Mother. Denise cleaned and organized my Mother's room and during my Mother's final hours she listened and took joy in the many stories and photos about my Mother. I know my Mother heard those stories and was comforted by them. This Home Instead takes great care of loved ones and their families.

Home Instead Fremont was WONDERFUL ‼️ They reviewed my situation and provided round the clock coverage for my good friend. They worked very well with the Vitas health care and together provided the excellent and caring service that I had hoped for. Home Instead has always been most accommodating with the caregivers schedules. Very thoughtful and dedicated caregivers. Everyone treats our mother like family with respect and kindness. We can’t imagine having gone through COVID without Home Instead!
We got Home Instead Senior Care for my parents. They are doing well. They are happy with the caregivers, and we are happy with them. They do light housekeeping, meals, hygiene, and reminders for medication.

Back in the Fall of 2014, my Mom was given 2 months to live after a hospitalization for a broken collar bone and severe COPD. Her wish was to return home so we arranged for weekly visits from a hospice, as well as caregivers from Home Instead. At first, we had caregivers come for 4-8 hours shifts during the daytime. My Dad thought he could help provide care for my Mom and my parents insisted that they wouldn't need caregivers in the evening. Unfortunately, it ended up not being safe for my folks to be left alone overnight and I wasn't able to move in with them due to having a young child at home which was 45 minutes away. Thankfully, Shannon was able to arrange for 24/7 care for my parents during my Mom's transition which ended up lasting 6 months. My Dad is a very challenging person to work with and he remained in denial about the severity of my Mom's condition until the end. Most of the caregivers were very patient with him as they balanced tending to my Mom's Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and babysitting him. Shannon also came up with a system of posting a weekly calendar with the names and pictures of the caregivers that were arriving for each shift. This helped lessen the confusion of having different people coming to the house. Our situation was extreme and complicated. If I hadn't found Shannon and Home Instead, I don't think I would have been able to honor my Mom's wish to die at home. Thank you for being there!

Shannon has provided me with a guardian angel who is highly talented and responsive to my every need. She is available for as little as 4 hours a day, or as many as 24 hours a day. She is an excellent driver and has helped me with my grocery shopping. I do not believe I can bathe without her assistance. She provides minor first aid and daily encouragement. The rates are reasonable. I would be pleased to recommend her service to anyone seeking to enhance the lives of aging adults. There are many such services available to the general public, but Home Instead Senior Care is by far the best one.
My mother passed away in January and I live two hours away from my 92-year-old dad. While he is in pretty good physical and mental health, he doesn't cook and isn't used to basic housekeeping. He reluctantly agreed to try having Kim Q., a caregiver from Home Instead, come to his home four mornings a week for a one month "trial" to clean, cook lunch and provide companionship. Fast-forward eight months: when I visit, the house is immaculate, the refrigerator is stocked with plenty of nutritious food that can be reheated in the microwave, and my dad is in good spirits with his new routine. His caregiver is reliable, responsible, personable, and willing to spend time with my dad doing her work but also sharing a cup of coffee and a board game. I can't tell you what a relief it is to know that Dad is well taken care of!

I've had a great experience working with Home Instead in Union City, CA. I've been working directly with Shannon to coordinate care for my mother. She has been incredibly understanding and helpful through the whole process. She has made sure that my mom is heard and her needs are met, as well as providing support for me through this process.

Met all the needs of our mother in a caring, compassionate, and responsive way, all during COVID. Literally 4 days before the shelter in place, our mother went from a walker to a wheelchair. She resides in a senior care facility (CCRC) as an independent resident and needed 24 hour care within a day. We were referred to Home Instead (HI) by the management of her residence. Speaking with Shannon at about 9:00 pm, Shannon reduced my anxiety by asking all the right questions and explaining the care my mom needed and would be provided. After I spoke with her, I knew our mom would be taken care of properly and with compassion.

We inquired their service (Union City) recently. The folks worked there were really professional and compassionate. The owner showed us that the company is licensed through department of social service for care-giving. All caregivers are employees and background checked with fingerprints (Lifescan). There are strong processes and check points to ensure customized care are implemented properly. I was very impressed. They will be our first choice when we are ready to use home based senior service.
Home Instead worked with me as a bridge during the first few weeks I came home in a wheelchair from a care facility. The provider was caring and made me become confident in getting around my home. She was knowledgeable and was able to help me learn to care for myself as I regain my health.
