Shanna's role: Shanna's first experience with Home Instead Senior Care was in 2007 when she worked as the Community Service Representative for a local North Carolina Home Instead office. While working with the seniors in that market, her passion for the industry rapidly grew. When the opportunity presented itself to open an office in the Lexington area in 2008, she knew it was a great chance to share her passion with the wonderful people of Davidson and Davie Counties. She has since dedicated her career to providing the best care to the seniors in this area and positioning Home Instead Senior Care as an employer of choice. Her role is to offer support and guidance to our community, Clients, CAREGivers, and staff members to ensure a quality care and employment experience at all times.

A little about Shanna: While battling dementia for several years, my grandmother lived with me and used Home Instead Senior Care services. This was a unique opportunity for me because I was able to see things through a different set of eyes. Not only was I the Home Instead Senior Care business owner, but now also the family member that was putting all my trust in my grandmother's CAREGiver. After that experience of "being on the other side," I now personally know how important our care becomes to seniors and their families. This is one reason our office is so committed to making a quality difference in the lives of seniors in our community. With just a little assistance from one of our CAREGivers, seniors can thrive in their homes longer than ever before. If Home Instead Senior Care is not the option for you, we encourage you to call still so that we may assist you and your loved ones in finding the right care provider. It's a privilege to help our seniors in this stage of their life, and for 12 years now we have seen so many lives changed by our services, including mine. What it means to be a Certified Senior Advisor: When you work with a professional who has added the Certified Senior Advisor designation to their credentials, you know you are working with someone who has invested time and effort to learning about the things that are important to you. CSAs become CSAs because they want to learn more about the health, financial and social aspects of being age 55 or older. They have made specific efforts to earn your trust, and they have committed to ongoing CSA continuing education standards that encourage volunteering for activities that help seniors and that require regular training in dealing with the issues facing seniors today. Insist on working with a Certified Senior Advisor; work with someone who is committed to you!

Melisa “Mel” Hughes, Executive Assistant

Mel’s role: As the Executive Assistant, Melisa will provide direct support to the Owner (Shanna Howard)/Director’s Office. Mel will perform a variety of administrative tasks and will work behind the scenes to keep the owner/director’s professional life and calendar organized, punctual and productive. Mel’s primary mission is to always make sure that everything that needs to happen for our internal and external clients, is executed with a sense of urgency, precision, and the utmost care.

A little about Mel: I am a West Indian, from the island of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. In October 2007, I visited Greensboro, NC and after experiencing the “trees change” Fall season, and quickly decided that I would love to move to North Carolina permanently. I moved February of 2008 and worked for AT&T until 2018. I started working at the Department of Health and Human Services as an assistant to the director. I truly enjoyed working at DSS, however, once met with the opportunity to work at Home Instead, I decided to get onboard.

Fun Fact: Both Mel and her husband are huge (“HUGE”), comic book fans. We have a very large collection of Marvel comic books.
Krista Beaver, RN - Registered Nurse

Krista Beaver, RN - Registered Nurse

Krista's role: Krista plays a vital role in the direct care of our clients. Together, with our other Registered Nurses and Client Care team, she ensures that our clients' total needs are met. She comes to Home Instead Senior Care with over 30 years of nursing experience. We are both thankful and excited to have her on our team.

A little about Krista: I recently moved to this area from Tennessee upon retirement to join family. My professional nursing career began with a commitment in college to the USN. I am honored to have served in two major conflicts: Vietnam and Desert Storm. Upon retirement as a Navy nurse, I continued to pursue clinical positions, primarily involving the pediatric population. Most recently, I was employed as a Nurse Case Manager for BCBS of Tennessee. When I'm not working, I am enjoying time spent with son, daughter-in-law and 8 grandchildren who also reside in the Thomasville area. I'm also an active volunteer at Father's Storehouse in Thomasville as well as the VAMC in Salisbury. I would love to share with you more about my vast career and what led me to Home Instead Senior Care!

Fun Fact: When not with family or working you will find Krista enjoying water aerobics, and the Silver Sneakers exercise program at the local YMCA.

Holly Poplin, Staffing Coordinator

Holly Poplin, Client Care Coordinator

Holly's Role: Holly began working at Home Instead as a CAREGiver when we quickly discovered she not only has the "heart of a CAREGiver", but the brain of an engineer. After spending 2 years as a Staffing Coordinator, we are happy to take advantage of both her heart and brain and propel Holly into the role of Client Care Coordinator. We are confident that Holly will excel in her new role which takes her back to her roots of interacting with our clients.

A little about Holly: I am happily married to my husband, Jeremy, and together we have a dog (Lady) and a cat (Dolly Purrton). While not physically close to our families, we spend a lot of time talking and cultivating those relationships. I, as well as my husband, are ministers and church play's a big part in our lives. When I'm not working at Home Instead or in the church, I enjoy spending downtime with my husband and celebrating friendships.

Fun Fact: Holly is an excellent and experienced jewelry maker!

Malissa

Malissa Trachsler, CAREGiver Learning & Development Manager

Malissa's role: The purpose of learning and development is to inform, educate and equip employees with the tools and confidence they need to provide the highest quality care. Malissa helps build a connection and loyalty between the Caregivers, Clients, and office. Not only does she facilitate our best-in-class, certified, ongoing training, but she also supports the Caregiver career from the point of hire on. This allows us to not only have the most skilled Caregivers, but the happiest as well! 

A little about Malissa: I was born in Texas, yet I spent most of my life moving around the United States. I am a mother of two beautiful daughters. My fiancé and I currently live in Greensboro with our two dogs and a cat. During my downtime, I enjoy cooking, reading, and I'm becoming a semi-pro at remodeling my home. I'm a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor who enjoys doing anything active or being outdoors. I am excited to be part of the Home Instead team. 

Fun Fact: Malissa's father was in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest tattoo session given in the fall of 1999.

Jonesha ‘JoJo’ Davis, Service Coordinator

JoJo’s Role: JoJo joins our team as Service Coordinator after working as a Home Instead Caregiver this past year. Her role is to personally match our Caregiving staff to their clients to ensure the utmost compatibility. Her Caregiving background gives her great insight in making sure our Caregivers and Clients are 100% satisfied with Home Instead! Some of JoJo’s greatest strengths are her compassion to help others, her ability to effectively communicate with others, problem-solving and having an empathetic disposition to clients and Caregiver’s alike. 

About JoJo: I was born and raised in the small town of Thomasville, NC.  Usually, I go by JoJo because the pronunciation of Jo-ne-sha can be difficult. I have an older brother who has given me three nephews, and a younger brother that has given me a niece. Nothing is more adorable than hearing them say, “Auntie JoJo!” Milo is my fur baby that I have had for two years and knows he has me wrapped around his paw. Being with my family and Milo is paradise to me. Overall, I am a dedicated, hardworking, and fun person to be around. The moment I walked into Home Instead I knew I was home!

Fun Fact: Milo and Jonesha share the same birthday, October 28!
