My love for seniors truly began when I watched my grandfather, affectionately called "Honey," care for his wife. I grew up in Central Florida and didn't have much time with him or my grandmother till I went "North" to college in Chattanooga, Tennessee. My grandmother had suffered a stroke a few years before I arrived and experienced dementia afterward. While in college, I observed my grandfather patiently caring for her through the progression of the disease. I came to have a great respect for Honey, as he was patient with the wandering and confusion and met every new stage with love. Later, after her passing, he asked me if I would move in with him and I had the opportunity to care for him.  I am grateful for Home Instead because it has allowed me to help other families keep their parents and grandparents in their own homes. Although my grandfather is no longer with me, and I am no longer providing hands-on care as I once did for him, the personal satisfaction of making a difference for one grandfather has followed me into my career with Home Instead. To me, this is what makes Home Instead personal.
