I am often asked why I started this particular business. This is very personal to me. My love for seniors started when I was a family caregiver myself. My family took turns living-in with my great aunt in an attempt to keep her out of a nursing home. At first it was a joy as she lovingly tried to improve my meager culinary skills. But as time went on she slowly forgot my name and began calling the police on me. She would often bang her cane on the large glass window in her living room to attract the attention of strangers on the street, calling to them to come and rescue her. Towards the end, I spent three months living in her home. I'll never forget that day when we had a family meeting and decided that her care had just become too much for us to handle as a family and we would have to move her into a home. It is sad now looking back at our exhausted state of mind that we did not even consider using professional home care, because we had never heard of such a thing. Later in life when I found Home Instead Senior Care, I knew that I had found my place. For ten years now we have been providing an answer for other families who are asking what they can to do to keep their aging loved ones at home. This is very personal to me.
