UsAgainstAlzheimer's recently hosted its annual WomenAgainstAlzheimer's Summit, 'Out of the Shadows' dinner, and Congressional Hill Day to drive the growing momentum in the Alzheimer's movement.
The two-day Summit brought together national and international leaders in Alzheimer's research, science, policy, advocacy, and care to share new data, knowledge, and insights with congressional policymakers.
Jisella Dolan, Chief Advocacy Officer for the Home Instead Senior Care franchise network, delivered a presentation entitled, Empowering Caregivers Through Training. Washington-area Home Instead franchise owners also attended the summit and Congressional Hill Day along with members of the Home Instead advocacy team.
Also at the Summit, caring.com released a report showing that people caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease experience greater impacts financially, mentally, and time-wise compared to caregivers of aging loved ones in general.
Summit participants worked to create a proclamation called, "Women's Agenda for Action Stop Alzheimer's" with clear and tangible actions: increased focus on gender-sensitive research in Alzheimer's; an international dementia-friendly movement; increased participation in clinical trials by minority women; and addressing the health and financial burden of caregiving.
