​When Chris and Betsy Head opened their first franchised office of Home Instead Senior Care in Roanoke, VA in 2001, it was Betsy who worked in the business. Initially she did everything but billing and payroll, which fell to her husband, Chris. Having a background in campus ministry, Betsy saw the business from the beginning as a ministry opportunity to the seniors and their families throughout the Roanoke Valley. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy from the University of Georgia and a Master of Divinity Degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Her first career position was as the Baptist Campus Minister at Longwood College and Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, VA. When the couple moved to Roanoke in 1996 to follow Chris's job with Xerox Corporation, Betsy returned to campus ministry at Roanoke College. In 2000 Chris and Betsy began to look for a new career direction that would allow Chris to be at home more, and not be gone so much on business. The couple had 3 children by now, and wanted to spend more time together as a family. When they found Home Instead Senior Care, they knew they had found what they both were looking for. It took 2 years to hire Chris away from Xerox, but by then their company was thriving!

Betsy knows what it means to worry about aging parents. Her own mother, now in her 90's, has been a real inspiration for Betsy, but also a challenge, as they have grappled with knowing when to lay down the keys, what to do about incontinence management, how to negotiate doctor's visits from far away, and concerns about safety, falls, and nutritional support. Betsy says, "My passion is to make sure our Home Instead staff and CAREGivers care for every client we serve as it if were my own mother. I'm so glad that my mom has a Home Instead CAREGiver with her several days a week, because it gives me peace of mind, from 500 miles away, that she is getting the care she needs, and I can simply be her daughter when I phone or visit. I want that for all of our clients and their families!"

​Chris Head truly has a servant's heart when it comes to the seniors in our community and their families. Having grown up in a large, extended family that was almost clannish in their closeness, Chris was taught from infancy to respect and honor his elders. He watched his grandmother grapple with dementia and learned how devastating that disease can be.

In 2001 Chris and Betsy purchased their first Home Instead Senior Care franchise in Roanoke, Va. He saw the opportunity as a great business concept, but more than that, as a wonderful way to impact his community and change lives. With a strong entrepreneural ​drive, and a background in both ministry and business, as well as a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Georgia in Music Education, Chris brings a very diverse background to his business ownership.

In 2011, ten years after the purchase of that first franchise territory, Chris was asked to run for office, and was elected as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates serving the 17th district. In this capacity, Chris has taken his passion for serving seniors and his understanding of the complexities of owning a small business, along with his knowledge of the homecare industry, and has become a dynamic member of Virginia's General Assembly. Chris uses his diverse background to advocate for seniors all across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

​Michelle has overseen the entire operation of Home Instead Senior Care in Roanoke and Lynchburg since 2009. Together with her talented staff, she works tirelessly to ensure that Home Instead clients receive the best possible care with every CAREGiver visit. Michelle truly has a servant’s heart, and a real passion for helping our clients and their families.​


Scott Maxey, CDP, Marketing Services Manager

Scott Maxey, CDP, Marketing Services Manager

​​Scott brings a depth of knowledge to the position of Marketing Services Manager. He came to Home Instead in 2005 as a CAREGiver, having served as a family caregiver to his own mother. He quickly moved into the role of Quality Assurance Coordinator, and conducted visits in our clients' homes to insure that our CAREGivers were taking great care of the seniors they served.  From here Scott became a Community Service Representative and eventually a member of our Leadership Team as Marketing Services Manager.   He is also a graduate of Leadership Roanoke Valley.  His knowledge of senior resources is comprehensive, and almost as big as his heart!​

​Kim has been with Home Instead Senior Care since 2009. As the Human Resources Manager, Kim is also responsible for the hiring, training and supervision of our CAREGiver staff. “I love working for Home Instead Senior Care because I truly feel like we really make a difference everyday!”​


Lynne Latino, CDP, Client Services Manager

Lynne Latino, CDP, Client Services Manager

​Lynne Latino brings wisdom and discipline to the position of Client Services Manager.  She has a rich history of service with our company, having served in 2009 and 2010 as a Companion and Personal CAREGiver. Lynne left us late in 2010 to serve as a caregiver to her own family. Like many of our clients, several members of her family experienced complex medical issues, and she became a caregiver to her mother, brother, and sister. After several years as a family caregiver, she was given the opportunity to return to Home Instead and joined the administrative team in 2013​ as a Client Care Coordinator; now she manages our Client Care department. In Lynne's own words, "I dedicate my efforts to helping our clients receive the quality care  that Home Instead Senior Care offers to the seniors in our community."

​Stephanie manages our Staffing Department.  She joined our team in 2007. “The thing I love the most about my job is knowing that I am helping the seniors in my community be able to stay in their homes. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my four children, going to their games and school events.”​


Vickie Meeks Miller, Training Coordinator

​Vickie Meeks Miller has had the privilege of being a CAREGiver to many loved ones in her lifetime. She believes these experiences have blessed her with the heart of a CAREGiver and prepared her for this awesome opportunity to serve as the Training Coordinator for Home Instead Senior Care. Vickie says it is a privilege and honor to train and assist the many wonderful CAREGivers who are willing to share their hearts with seniors and those in need of assistance.  It is so rewarding for her to be a resource to our CAREGivers who are the face of Home Instead Senior Care, and to provide them with important instruction and tools necessary to ultimately care for and enhance the lives of countless seniors and provide piece of mind to their families.  In her own words, Vickie says, "I believe Home Instead Senior Care is where I belong!"​


Krista Templeton, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator

​Krista is originally from the Lynchburg area.  She has a degree in Psychology from JMU and worked in the Human Services field offering direct care, Case Management and supervision for a Case Management team prior to getting married in 2000.  She and her husband then relocated to the Outer Banks of NC where Krista worked in Real Estate and Property Management for 15 years prior to 'coming home' in early 2015. They returned as Krista's father had a stroke and the couple wanted to be closer to home in order to help in any way they could.  After attending a Fearless Caregiver conference at Lynchburg College in early 2015 gathering information about potential services for her father, Krista said, "I met some amazing ladies who worked for Home Instead and I knew that's where I wanted to spend my days making a difference in the lives of others...HISC has become another 'home' for me and I am blessed everyday to work here!"  


Mary Brown, CDP, Client Care Coordinator

​Mary came to Home Instead in July 2014 as our Home Care Consultant.  Just a month after starting her job, Mary's father passed away.  She says, "Betsy and Chris treated me like family, and the entire staff is so caring".  Mary is extremely involved in her church, and is well known in our community.   As Client Care Coordinator, Mary is dedicated to working with clients and their families to provide the quality care they deserve.  


Margaret Macher, CDP, Marketing and Admissions Coordinator

​Before joining our team at Home Instead, Margaret worked in the hospitality and sales industry with a primary focus on Long Term Care. She has a Bachelor's Degree from Radford University in Community Health Education and enjoys working with other professionals in the healthcare industry to form partnerships and collaborate to provide the best care possible for each and every senior we serve. As a previous caregiver to her Mother-in Law for 3 years, Margaret understands the complexity of providing optimum care while maintaining balance within your own life.  This experience motivates her to help our families in every way possible.   In her own words, Margaret says, "I am thrilled to be part of the Home Instead team and feel that when we honor older people by spending quality time with them. We show them that they are a valuable and vital part of our community.  Serving in this way allows each member of our team to walk through a doorway of unexpected blessings on a daily basis." ​


Bette Richards, RN, Personal Care Coordinator

Bette Richards, RN, Personal Care Coordinator

Bette has been in home health care industry for over a decade. She came to Home Instead Senior Care in 2012, and in her capacity as a Personal Care Coordinator, she oversees the provision of personal care to our clients that need such services. She also has three adult sons and is a dog breeder. “My love for seniors is one of the joys of my life.”​


Alison Lawrence, Staff Coordinator

​Alison is a Roanoke native who graduated from Hollins University.  She identifies with seniors in our community, as her grandfather was a Home Instead client.  It became apparent to her just how much support families need and she is passionate about providing quality home care.  Family is very important to Alison, and she and her husband have two young sons who are very close to their grandparents!


Mary Ward, Staff Coordinator

Mary is from Roanoke originally, but moved to South Carolina to attend Coastal Carolina University, and ultimately worked for a skilled home care company.  Mary is also married and has a beautiful daughter.  ​ She is very passionate about helping seniors and their families!


Lenda Liptrap, Executive Assistant and Bookkeeper

Lenda Liptrap, Executive Assistant and Bookkeeper

​Lenda assists the General Manager in her day to day activities.  She oversees the billing department and loves her interaction with our clients!  Lenda's passions are her family, her church and her job at Home Instead.  Lenda teaches Sunday school and has traveled to Cambodia on a missions trip to work in an orphanage.  “I am blessed to be a part of this team, staff and CAREGivers, who admire and love our seniors.”​
