Recognizing Contributions to the Community
Every day, Pennsylvania senior volunteers generously give of their time and service to help other, in their communities. Volunteers are the backbone of many organizations throughout the region, ranging from local churches, food pantries, and libraries. Not to mention, it would be very hard to visit a loved one in the hospital, without running into a senior volunteer in a colored lab coat or see seniors volunteer at a Lenten fish fry. Nationally, senior volunteers contributed over 20 billion hour or the equivalent of $67 billion dollars. Home Instead Senior Care wants to recognize the valuable contributions of seniors in our area. Through the Salute to Senior Service program, many deserving seniors and causes from our area will gain positive light, as we search for Central Pennsylvania’s top volunteer. Running from February 16th-March 6th community members will have the opportunity to nominate their local volunteers. Nomination forms can be obtained by calling or e-mailing Endy Reindl at Home Instead Senior Care at (814) 693-3610 or Endicott.Reindl@Homeinstead.com. The winner will be chosen by an independent panel of volunteer professionals from area businesses. To recognize his/her efforts a $100 donation will be made in their name to a charity of his/her choice, as well as holding a recognition dinner. Last year we had 7 volunteers nominated, and we hope to increase that number to show off the good work happening in our area. “Senior volunteerism not only benefits others, but also helps seniors stay active and socially engaged in their communities-important elements of healthy aging,” stated Theresa Zurilla, owner of the local Home Instead Senior Care.
