When your parents turned 16 they had a whole new world open up to them. They were given a freedom and responsibility that changed their lives. However, a few decades later their reaction time and motor skills are probably not as sharp anymore, but the same freedom they felt when they were 16 still remains.
Maybe they are a perfectly safe driver. Perhaps they are not. How can you tell?
The first step is having a conversation, unfortunately research conducted by Home Instead, Inc., franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care® network, revealed that most families aren’t having this talk. While almost a third (31%) of seniors surveyed said a recommendation from family or friends may make them reconsider driving, we found that 95% of seniors aren’t having these conversations.
Please check our new resource site www.letstalkaboutdriving.ca to find resources on how to start the conversation, identify what issues exist and a Safe Driving Planner that can give you information and actionable steps for different situations.
