Phyllis Is Honored as CAREGiver of Month

"To us, it's personal."

It's the motto for both Home Instead Senior Care® and Phyllis Cox, CAREGiver of the Month at owner Aaron Blight's franchise in Winchester, Virginia. In addition to Winchester and Phyllis's hometown of Stephenson, the award-winning company serves clients in the Northern Shenandoah Valley and 24 other surrounding communities.

While announcing Phyllis's honor for May 2017, Co-Recruitment and Retention Coordinator Sherry A. Heltzel said: "Phyllis is dependable, compassionate and trustworthy."

Perhaps it was fitting that Phyllis was hired Dec. 24, 2012, during the season of giving. She has been a gift that never stops giving to her clients and their families. Before May 1, 2017, she had logged 4,737 hours of service for Home Instead Senior Care.

Co-Recruitment and Retention Coordinator Kristi Piotter said: "She is the type of person who is full of humility. It is hard for her to talk about herself. In talking to others in our office, including the scheduling department, we all agree that Phyllis is a hard worker, dependable, honest, likes to smile a lot and is very energetic. We are so glad to have her on the team and be a part of our effort to help seniors and their families."

At Home Instead Senior Care, Phyllis's responsibilities include meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, companionship, and transportation and errands. In addition to those services, Phyllis and other CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence, cognitive impairment and mobility. By expertly doing so, Phyllis not only assists her clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

Home Instead Senior Care's guiding principles are also emblazoned on its employees' hearts: "CAREGivers demonstrate their commitment to their clients by honoring God in all they do; treating their clients and their families with dignity and respect; embracing personal growth in an attempt to continually improve the quality of their care through franchise training; and building value in their service to others."

To build on their knowledge and experience, Phyllis and other CAREGivers are offered the opportunity to complete the Home Instead Senior Care network's Alzheimer's Disease or Other Dementias CARE: Changing Aging Through Research and Education® Training Program.

CAREGivers who are trained in the CARE program have a passion to work with Alzheimer's disease clients and receive ongoing classroom training and testing. The Home Instead Senior Care program offers a personal approach to taking care of seniors with Alzheimer's disease at home – where 60 to 70 percent live, according to the Alzheimer's Association. It is a unique program that has received acclaim and endorsements from experts.

The Home Instead Senior Care approach of encouragement and assistance helps those with dementia and their family members cope with the challenges of memory loss. CAREGivers such as Phyllis also provide assistance with establishing a regular routine and restoring the simple pleasures of life, among the best non-medical treatments for the disease. Clients' families truly recognize how much assistance Phyllis provides, and she is in demand.

"Phyllis truly represents our office and Home Instead Senior Care very well," Kristi added.

Phyllis is happy to be a part of the CAREGiver team for the Winchester franchise. Overall, for the international company that was founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Paul and Lori Hogan, Phyllis is among more than 65,000 professional CAREGivers. They rate their employers highly.

Forbes' third annual "America's Best Employers" list honored Home Instead Senior Care as one of its best employers for 2017. Home Instead ranks 78 on the list, which was generated using anonymous feedback from employees at the nation's top employers. Companies on the Best Employers' list range across 25 industry sectors – from government services to retail to healthcare. While the 2017 list featured a variety of healthcare companies, Home Instead Senior Care is the only provider of home care services for seniors.
