  3. Saying “Thank You” to our Senior Volunteers
We are so excited to announce the launch of the 2013 Salute to Senior ServiceSM program here in Central Oregon!

Sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care®, the Salute to Senior ServiceSM program seeks to honor senior volunteers for the tireless contributions they make to their local communities. There are so many seniors doing good works: They deliver meals to shut-ins, read to school children, and sew quilts for those in need. They share their lifetime of skills and talents to make our cities and towns a better place to live.

According to research conducted by the Home Instead Senior Care® network, 52 percent of seniors volunteer their time through unpaid community service. Nearly 20 percent (one in five) of seniors surveyed started volunteering when they reached the traditional age of retirement – 65 or older. Furthermore, 20 percent of seniors who volunteer say that their community service is the most important thing they do.

We believe what they do is important, too. These silent heroes give selflessly, expecting nothing in return. And yet, their contributions often make a difference not only to the organizations they serve, but in changing how the public views growing older.

Nominated seniors will be eligible for state and national recognition. Home Instead, Inc. will donate $500 to each of the state winners’ favorite nonprofit organizations and their stories will be posted on the

Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame. In addition, $5,000 will be donated to the national winner’s nonprofit charity of choice.

Nominees must be 65 years of age or older and volunteer at least 15 hours a month. If you know of a senior who donates their time and talents to local schools, hospitals or other community organizations, nominate them today at Nominations will be accepted through March 31.

Take the time to say “Thank You” to a senior volunteer who inspires you. Submit your nomination today.
