Chita Henning, Franchise Owner

I, along with my sister, Vivian, started assisting our mother in her Board and Care Facility in 1987. We took care of paperwork and eventually hands-on caregiving with her clients. After nearly a decade-and-a-half of learning from our mother, I was able to purchase my first Board and Care Facility in 2002. We managed a total 5 homes. In 2006, I made the move to Home Instead and purchased 2 locations. I am blessed to say that I still own 1 of those 2 locations today, in Woodland Hills—servicing an expansive area from Granada Hills to Malibu. The Lord has given me this business and I feel an obligation to do my best in caring for our clients and a responsibility to keep our caregivers employed. It has been quite a journey but the Lord gives me guidance and direction on a daily basis. Our mother now suffers from mid-stage dementia and is currently in a Board and Care facility. Working for our mother truly was an invaluable experience, as we are now fully equipped to manage her care.

My mini-me is awesomely ambitious, in her second year at Northeastern University Law School! When I don’t have the pleasure of meeting with new clients, I love shopping, vacationing in my second home of Hawaii, and hanging out with my sweet dog, Winkie.

Vivian Damo, General Manager

My sister, Chita, and I have been with Home Instead since 2006 . . . and to me, it's very personal. Our mother is 80 years old and suffers from mid-stage Dementia. We have first-hand experience dealing with someone you love and how this horrible disease has affected our lives. A tremendous amount of love, patience, and understanding is needed and deserved along with having an open mind, flexibility, and capacity for continued learning. We are here to help you and your family the best way we can and will work with you to assist in any challenges that may arise with an open heart, compassion, and experience. Prior to coming to Home Instead, we owned 5 Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly for over 20 years.

A fun fact about my sister, Chita, and me is that just recently we found out via DNA testing that we are 1/3 Samoan. I'm still surprised!

Celeste Johnson, Long Term Care Insurance Coordinator

I've had the pleasure of being with Home Instead for over 14 years and counting. In 2007, after being a stay-at-home mom for 13 years, I started working at Home Instead as a part-time CAREGiver. Once my kids started going to college, I progressed to full-time. In 2019, I began working in the office, taking care of the Long-Term Care insurance. Along with being the LTC Coordinator, I am happy to say that I have been a CAREGiver to the same client since 2015. I love working with my clients, but I also like being part of the family-base for our CAREGivers and getting to know the other side of caregiving. It takes all of us working together to make it work.

I feel blessed to be a wife, a mother of three lovely girls, and a grandma of one with another one on the way. I feel fortunate to have cared for both my mother and mother-in-law, which has taught me the meaning of compassion, patience and understanding. Like our motto says, “To us, it’s personal.”

Marie Silva-Melendres, Office Coordinator

I joined Home Instead in 2019 after managing a non-profit counseling center in Chatsworth, California for 32 years. I managed and performed functions in all aspects of the office, including accounting, event planning, client communication, and purchasing, among other things. I routinely supervised employees, and ensured the security of all clients, employees, and therapist.

Although I was born in Northern California, I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. I love learning, spending time with my family and friends, reading, and being outdoors under the stars.
