We have been using Home Instead in Portland for several years for my mother's care and are so grateful for her caregiver Sheila! She treats my parents like her own and works with them to make sure they are having their needs met on a weekly basis. She is punctual and dependable, and flexible when we need to adjust the schedule. Her presence has allowed my parents to remain in their home far longer than they would have been able to alone which is the biggest blessing to them (and the family).

I've needed a caregiver for about twelve years now. In that time I've had several caregivers and being able to communicate the help I need has allowed me to have 3 caregivers that have been exemplary. Diane my current caregiver has been with me for about 5 years now and I am truly grateful for her help. Without her I would be in a nursing home. She's been a true blessing.

Home Instead, Portland 97216 has been providing inhome care services to my mother inlaw (90's) for about 4 months. The people our family interacts with are all a stellar 5+ stars! Dora, who provides the inhome care services is a very caring and loving person that fits well with my inlaws expectations. Sara, the client care coordinator interfacing with the family, is responsive and accomidating to our requests. Working with this Home Instead group has been a positive experience from the beginning.

We've had a handful of Home Instead caregivers, all very pleasant, but are especially happy to have VICTORIA as our primary, regular, recurring caregiver. Her quiet, professional composure and background experience gives me great confidence in her ability to monitor my 84 yr old husband w/ mobility limitations and numerous chronic ailments. Her tasks may include light housekeeping, meal prep, etc however I prefer she focus on my husband -- assisting him with appropriate exercise, engaging him in conversation, keeping a watchful eye, offering a helping hand when needed, and while I'm out running errands, being there in case of an emergency. We greatly appreciate the care and peace of mind VICTORIA provides.

We used Home Instead's services for the care of our Mom. The staff was incredible! We appreciated all the support we received from the main office (McKenzie and Kim were both incredibly helpful and responsive), and the caregivers at the house who spent time with Mom on a daily basis. We cannot say enough good things about all of the staff, including Tanicia, Amber, LaToya, and Cindy who spent quite a bit of time helping Mom with her daily needs. Mom especially loved Tanicia's visits due to her excellent cooking and care. In the days before our Mom passed, the staff were exceptional in their support and care of Mom, but also with the family as we spent time at the house. We cannot thank Home Instead enough for providing the care Mom needed and deserved in the past months.
I was coming into Portland for surgery, and had already paid for travel and accommodations, when I got this email from OHSU: “You must have someone to assist and stay overnight with you the day of your procedure. Surgery will be rescheduled if either of these requirements are not met.” I didn’t know anyone in Portland, so I quickly called “Home Instead”, and they saved me! They provided transportation to and from the hospital satisfying the hospital requirements, and the surgery was a success. Thank you “Home Instead”!
We were so happy to have an amazing experience with Home Instead and our caregiver was Luz (last name held for privacy). We live in Molalla Oregon which is about 35 miles south of Portland and we were actually very worried we wouldn't find anyone to come way out here to help us care for Alyce, my 87 year old MIL. We brought Alyce home in January 2022 from an assisted living facility due to their inability to give her the care we expected and pay massively for. Home Instead was a new company to us and after meeting us in our home and evaluating our needs, they matched us with Luz who is absolutely amazing. We have 4 cats and 3 dogs so our situation is crazy. Alyce needed help with everything as she was weak and suffered from Vascular Dementia. Alyce suffered 2 silent heart attacks in March and we were blessed to have Luz help her. Luz was always on time and so kind and patient with all of us. She helped Alyce live out her last few months with dignity and friendship. We trusted Luz with everything and valued her advice on dealing with the changes in Alyce and how best to help her. Luz's calming presence was so helpful in such a difficult time. Sadly Alyce suffered 2 strokes and passed away in May but her life was made far more enjoyable due to Luz's care. We were able to experience time with Alyce in a much happier way as opposed to stressing over how to care for her. Luz is such a caring, calm and extremely well qualified person to care for your loved one.
My father was in an assisted living facility but needed more care that the facility could provide. Since I live in another state, I contacted Home Instead to visit him 3x/week for three hours/day over the primary meal period to provide companionship, help with eating, and assisting in moving as needed.
All aspects of my experience with Home Instead was positive, from my initial contact through the wrap-up of their services. Office staff was professional--once they understood what i was looking for they arranged an on-site assessment of my dad's needs. The woman performing the assessment was empathetic, engaging, thorough and very competent. She was able to explain their services to my father and his wife, answering their questions and concerns. She provided more detail to me on billing and scheduling.
It took about two weeks to find caregivers who could come on the desired schedule, one for two days/week and the other for one day/week (which we later extended to two days/week). Both caregivers bonded with my father; he was happy to see them. They kept good notes of each visit for me to review, and the case manager would call me at least monthly to review the situation with me. They also noted any issues with the care being provided by the facility and suggested equipment or other actions we could take to make my dad more comfortable.
If a caregiver was unable to make their normal meeting, they always let me know 48 hours or more in advance and offered to find a substitute to insure coverage.
When my Dad needed to move to a different facility for more care, we arranged to have them continue to come to provide continuity and insure there would be some familiar faces in a new situation.
He became very friendly with both and it was a source of comfort for me to have two experienced, professional and empathetic people spend time with my dad.
I have no hesitation recommending Home Instead; all aspects of my interaction with them were positive. I only wished I had learned about them sooner so I could have involved them earlier in my dad's care.

Home Instead's team of amazing caregivers helped care for my Mom for most of 2020. Even in the first days of the pandemic when the world came to a standstill, caregivers came every day and took such wonderful care. Everyone we dealt with was kind and caring. My mom needed a lot of care, and they worked to find us the best fit for her. I see a lot of negative reviews about poor communication with the office, but I did not have that experience. I spoke with their office staff quite often and they were always helpful and responsive to my requests. If you are considering caregiving for a loved one, they will be in wonderful hands with this agency. I can't thank them enough for all they did for my Mom.
This company is so special. I highly recommend Home Instead. From start to finish each staff person took their time to make sure I understood what care my parents would receive. The care plan was adjustable, which became so important as health care needs changed, sometimes over night. They really did their absolute best to give my parents the unique care that they wanted and I needed for them. Thank you!
Positive: Professional employees, honor safety rules (masks and cleaning), calendars with dates and names of caregivers, open-minded, and respectful personnel. Negative: Too many caregivers with changes. I need a bit more stability. Exhausted.

Caregivers are compassionate and reliable
My mom is in Independent Living, and showing the gradual signs of memory loss. Home Instead provides really professional (and most importantly, empathetic!) Caregivers to help her with medications 2 times a day. Some days my mom is sweet, some days my mom is grumpy. The caregivers are expert at navigating the emotional changes of memory loss, while keeping her confidence and trust. What can I say. During these difficult times, she has people to look out for her on a daily basis. I feel that having extra eyes on my mom is a reflection of something positive, optimistic and calming. This agency has been on time, thoughtful, professional and caring.

HISC has been able to personalize services to address the changing needs of our elderly family member. Many thanks to our Care Coordinator for her creative solutions. The caregivers are experienced, competent, and caring. We are pleased with our relationship with HISC and recommend them highly.
The caregivers are all warm and provide my husband with much-needed companionship. Everyone is reliable, and we've always been treated like we matter, both by the office staff and the caregivers.
My Mom was in a transition point in dementia. She lives in an assisted living facility and needed one on one care during the day. Home Instead reacted quickly to the need and provided companions that interacted well with Mom. If they got feed back suggesting a given caregiver did not get a great response from my Mother they worked to find a companion who did. The communication with Home Instead was good even in the middle of the COVID 19 pandemic.
Home Instead Is very competitive cost wise and are more reliable than others we have used or heard of from friends. That being said I urge anyone who is thinking of hiring outside care to review your budget and understand all the terms and financial implications. Home Instead was very good at explaining all the terms, rates and minimums.

We are using Home Instead. So far, so good. They provide companionship and have sent a very good person. We have gotten this recommendation from a local medical school. They had recommended Home Instead as an alternative. We went with them, and we are very pleased. The caregivers are very competent. They come in Monday, Wednesday and Friday for three hours. I would certainly recommend them.

I had the opportunity to be provided care by one of their hardest worker, in a time of vulnerability and need for three months, namely Abigail. She provided amendable, attentive, and compassionate care, always lifting my spirits through a very difficult time. If the need were to arise again, I would utilize Home Instead's services. My husband has memory problems. It had gotten where he should not be left alone. Through research and lots of questions, we found Home instead senior care. We have found one person that we have come each week as a regular. This has worked out great. He does what needs to be done, and finds things to help with. We have had many others for when I need to go out. All with their different personalities have ranged from fine to great. All would be welcomed back again.
Home Instead came to my rescue when my elderly father suddenly took a turn for the worse and I needed time to make arrangements for assisted living care. They were very kind and professional with my Dad, reporting to me about this status and progress. It gave me great peace of mind knowing that there were another set of eyes until I could get him moved to a permanent setting with greater oversight.
Pat cared for my father-in-law for 8 weeks when his regular caregiver was recovering from a surgery. Pat is a real sweetheart! My father-in-law just adored her. We had a serious family injury that occurred and needed assistance abruptly. LaVona came out to the house on a Sunday evening and got us signed up and help to us when we needed it. We found Home Instead to be extremely helpful after my wife had some injuries and we required some assistance. The aides were kind, timely, skilled, and willing to pitch in without being asked. They helped do laundry, house cleaning. Frankly, our floors have never been cleaner and having someone help with laundry during the week eased my weekend chores tremendously. We didn't require food preparation or medication assistance, but I'm sure they would have provided it had we asked. To my mind, the hourly rates were reasonable.

The initial interviewer was kind and sensitive to the needs of my mother and our family. Each person that has come to care for her was also sensitive to her needs. I think the only difficulty I see with regards to my mother is her ability to adjust to having a variety of people. Home Instead has helped our whole family by providing support for an older family member with dementia. The care and companionship they have provided has been sincere and engaging. The practical help they provide with cleaning and other chores has helped the whole family by taking off some of the stress of constant home maintenance.
We've had about 5 or 6 different caregivers during our 2 year experience and they have all been friendly and professional. While they have all been capable, I found that some caregivers fit better than others for our needs. In other words, it may take trying out different caregivers to match up to your ideal.
All of my dealings with the administration and caregivers has been professional and organized. When we have needed schedule changes, the staff has kept communication clear and consistent in terms of alerting caregivers, finding alternates, and confirming changes. Caregivers always keep logs of the day and have always been on time.
It's not an inexpensive service, but for the support and help they provide it is worth it.
My 93 year old mother and 88 year old step-father are receiving kind, loving, supportive care from Home Instead caregivers. The team listens carefully to our particular needs; they are wonderfully responsive, dutiful and genuinely lovely people. I strongly believe that my parents day to day lives are made richer and more comfortable with the help of the caregivers from Home Instead.
Home Instead caregivers have been the most wonderful, consistent, excellent companions/drivers/caregivers for my 84 year old dad with dementia. They have worked with him from independent living all the way to and into memory care. They continue to walk for miles with him, drive him to the bank to "negotiate" with his bank teller, grab a copy of the Oregonian (never mind that he is unable to read much any more), look at family photos, and adjust their voices so they can be heard by my dad who is unable to use hearing aids. We had tried other companies in the past, but found integrity, honesty, empathy and skills lacking - the most frightening things to lack when you're asking someone to care for your family member. They have stuck with him through times of peace and times of frustration and acting out. Their dementia training shows in their approach to my dad, especially in problem-solving and diversion. I cannot say enough about the comfort and friendship they have brought not only to my dad but to the rest of our family as well. The organization and communication between caregivers/home office/family is always smooth and reliable. Absolutely no reservations about this company and local presence. Highly recommended, without any hesitation. I hope they're still around when it's my turn :)
For the past three years Home Instead has provided wonderful caregivers for my mother. They always seem to find the best people! My mother says one of the reasons she is so happy here is the ladies for her!

None the less, they provided excellent care for my wife over four days as I attended a professional conference. There were four different caregivers, all of whom were very dependable, professional and personable. The office also provided effective administrative support. I would recommend this agency for anyone in need of care for an loved one with dementia.

We are caring for a very frail aunt from over a thousand miles away in Portland OR. In addition to a wonderful neighbor, this team has been working with us for about two years. They are friendly, responsive, and above all, reliable -- reliable -- reliable. While we could have saved money by directly hiring a caregiver, we would not have been able to manage it from the distance without continual worry. Our experience has been, these people will be there, will do a good job, and are responsive to the needs of your loved one.

Our loved one was living in assisted living and working with hospice. We realized that the aides from the assisted living home were not doing the work that hospice was advising. We hired 24 hour care to be our eyes and ears when we could not be there. They helped us work with hospice to get the care our loved one needed. They were competent and caring and we could not be more pleased with the help they provided. A much needed service and one we were relieved to find.
My involvement with Home Instead was excellent. The way they were concerned and how the caregivers were doing. The caregivers were very professional on how they cared for my husband.

They really do their best to make you feel like all your needs are taken care of when it comes to you and/or your loved ones in-home care. They can assist with bathing, toileting, dressing/grooming assistance, meal preparation, transportation/errands, and SO much more. They even have a nurse on staff that can help with medication management. The atmosphere at Home Instead is about family and I could not think of anyone else that I would want caring for my loved ones. We have been working with Home Instead continuously since the summer of 2010. Caregivers have helped us through 2 1/2 months of hospice care for my mother and since then, evolving levels of care for my father who is still living at home, since my mother's passing. Every attempt has been made to preserve consistency in caregivers and we have developed some priceless long term relationships. My father's quality of life at home is built on a combination of care given by Home Instead and family members. It has been a very successful partnership and Home Instead caregivers have nurtured not only my father, but my family as well. While a consistent schedule is optimal, Home Instead has always been able to respond to unplanned circumstances and changes. Every effort has always been made to send a caregiver who is already familiar with my father. As my father's needs have changed, Home Instead has always insured that the care plan is promptly updated, often including a personal visit to the home. Our care manager has been particularly responsive to any concerns or evolving needs. She remained personally involved with my mother during her last months and was a wonderful support to us after my mother's passing. Home Instead is well run, well organized but at the same time, sensitive to the realities of caring for a loved one. It is a business with a heart and I heartily recommend you consider Home Instead for your family's needs.

The people from Home Instead Senior Care are doing a good job. They were really easy to hook up with and they seem very caring. They can provide minimal to full care service. We've been working with them for about three months now.
We have been working with Home Instead for over 4 years since my mom had her stroke. Couldn't do care from 4 hours away without the flexible and kind office staff. Her caregivers are wonderful and take excellent care of her and her home. I recommend their services to friends with parents needing care.
We have used personnel from At Home Instead for the past 2 years for my father-in-law and found the service excellent with good follow through on requests, respect and compassion for him. At 85 it has been difficult for him to accept other presences in his home, but he has come to love Cheryl and look forward to seeing her every Tuesday. She plays with his dog, eats breakfast with him and does his laundry. We are currently anticipating increasing her hours because of his decline.
