Dementia Friendly Goodyear
Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act and talk about dementia. With Arizona anticipated to experience the highest-growth rate of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationally, it’s important to create more programs and resources to help entire communities understand what dementia is and how it affects people.
We have recognized dementia as a growing concern and strive to be proactive as Arizona is expected to experience the fastest growth with residents living with dementia.
The City of Goodyear is proud to be a part of the Dementia Friendly Arizona initiative, led by Banner Alzheimer’s Institute.
Dementia Friendly Goodyear’s Action Team
Dementia Friendly Goodyear’s Action Team, led by Home Instead, consists of the City Council, the memory care community and the senior housing community.
DFA Goodyear has begun training members of Homeowner’s Association patrol in local assisted living communities as well as administrative and hospitality team members in retirement communities. Following initial training, Goodyear will work with organizations to monitor their needs and provide continuing education.
Goodyear’s cross-sector team continues to grow as they build a task force to organize additional community activities and further delineate responsibilities.
