Great History Podcasts for Senior Care

No one is ever finished learning, and nowadays there’s a new way to learn almost anything: podcasts. They’re especially great for those in need of senior care. Ventura, CA seniors can listen to podcasts while doing things around the house, going for a walk, traveling, cooking, or many other activities.

With podcasts, the mind can stay active while the body does, too. Staying active is an important thing for those who may be concerned about needing dementia elderly care. Ventura, CA families can rely on the trained, licensed, bonded, and compassionate CAREGivers of Home Instead to be their senior care agency, and to help navigate the technologies of podcasts!

Podcasts can be about almost any topic since anyone can write and produce a podcast. The topics will naturally be as different as the people who produce them! But if you’re in a senior care situation, podcasts about history may especially interest you. We’ll share some great podcasts about history.

The first great history podcast we’ll share is “Ridiculous History.” This one is exactly what it sounds like. The writer finds those things that happened in history that made people at the time scratch their heads and wonder. This podcast dives in and finds out. You may be surprised to find out something new on a subject that you thought you already knew everything about!

Another great history podcast is “Memory Palace.” This one is short and very binge-able. The episodes are 10 to 15 minutes every other week. The host finds obscure stories, often about people or events or places that you know a lot about — but you didn’t know this. In that way, it’s similar to Ridiculous History, but he doesn’t focus on the ridiculous, just the obscure and interesting. Put it this way: if you loved Paul Harvey’s “the rest of the story,” Memory Palace is for you.

A much more scholarly look at history can be found at “In Our Time: History,” produced by the BBC. The host interviews three world-class scholars on the given topic. He asks great questions, and he keeps the conversation moving. At the end of the nearly hour-long episodes, you really have a much deeper and more comprehensive view of the event or person in question than you did before.  you have a deeper and broader understanding of the topic discussed. This podcast has many back episodes, so there are lots of back episodes for those stuck at home, who need residential assisted living in Ventura, CA, or even a live-in caregiver.

Our fourth great history podcast, especially for movie buffs, is “You Must Remember This.” Many people enjoy classic movies, and they can be a great way to pass the time with your elderly companion service. Ventura, CA seniors may not, however, know all of the backstories from those golden days of Hollywood. And those backstories frequently can shock and amaze! But the truth is stranger than fiction, and the stories behind the storytellers can be even more interesting than the stories they brought to life on the silver screen.

Hundreds more podcasts about history can be found, but we hope you’ll enjoy some of these. And if you struggle with technology, an excellent senior daycare companion from Home Instead would be happy to help.
