Classic board games or table games can make all the difference in elderly care. Oak Park, CA seniors certainly remember having fun days and evenings with some old school games. That same fun can be experienced all over again with great senior care services in Oak Park, CA.

Some chronic health conditions only require an occasional elderly companion care or a live-in caregiver in Oak Park, CA, some of the time together can be spent in friendly competition, playing a classic game. We’re happy to suggest a few.

A few of them will bring back memories of fun times spent with friends and family. And maybe new fond memories will be made.

But before we share the list, ask yourself what a game is worth without a worthy and friendly opponent? That’s where Home Instead comes in. Our licensed, bonded, trained, compassionate CAREGivers would be happy to engage in a bit of friendly competition in a game of your choice. They will stand — or sit! — ready to help in whatever way needed.

And if that means playing games, absolutely.

So what are some of those games that our aging and adult services CAREGivers will happily play?

Well, there are some classic word games. Scrabble, of course, is the big one. All those tiles, seeking triple letter scores and triple word scores. Brush up on your vocabulary of obscure words with high-value letters — yes, “QI” is valid! — and see if you can out-spell your opponent!

Another classic word game is Boggle. In this case, both players are looking at the same grid of letters and looking for all the words they can find. Vocabulary, and a quick eye to catch the combinations are both necessary for victory.

Yahtzee exchanges letters for numbers and has you and your opponent search for number combinations as you roll five dice. This is a fairly low-pressure game, and easy to play.

Then, of course, there are the classics among classics: chess, checkers, Chinese checkers, and even backgammon. Some people enjoy these classics more than others, but their enduring appeal means you’ll probably find someone willing to give them a go.

It is possible, however, that your home care assistance professional doesn’t already know how to play the game that you want to play. That is not a problem, it is an opportunity! What is knowledge and life experience for if not to share!

Not only can you share with them the rules of the game, but you can share with them your love for it. You can share stories of times you pulled out an upset victory. And you can share with them pointers on strategy that you’ve learned over the years.

So find a worthy and friendly opponent for your old-school gaming by calling Home Instead today. We’ll do a virtual or in-home assessment and come up with a plan that meets your needs. Call today at 818-988-6848.
