Recruitment & Retention Coordinator, Maegan Coldewey

Recruiting and Retention Coordinator Maegan Coldewey's mantra can be boiled down to "work hard, never stop learning and don't be afraid to reach for greater things." Maegan also believes self-pity is a waste of time and energy.

"As a perfectionist, I am harder on myself than any boss could ever be. I'm also big on sharing duties. Just because I was hired for a position doesn't mean that's all I do. I will help anyone and learn every position if I can," said Maegan, a highly regarded problem-solver. "You will encounter challenges. I believe there are always two sides to every situation, so I keep an open mind. Issues are usually not black or white. Be fair. Listen."

Maegan joined Home Instead Senior Care in March 2019 at her current position. She is responsible for hiring and evaluating CAREGivers, training, conducting monthly CAREGiver meetings, maintaining rosters and the referral provider network list, recruiting at career fairs and helping with marketing strategies.

Maegan's experiences prepared her for success. "I have no degrees or certificates. I'm a self-taught kind of gal who is big on 'go-all-in or go-home.' A positive, aggressive attitude always pays off. Before coming to Home Instead, I worked at an assisted living facility as the business office coordinator then as the activities director. I worked in the petroleum industry as an accounts receivable payable clerk (AP/AR).

Maegan and her husband will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary in October 2020. They first met in Sunday school when they were 16. They have a 3-year-old son who will turn 4 in November, and they are excited to be welcoming a baby boy in November 2020. "We live out in the country with our dog and pot belly pig, and we love our freedom. In my spare time, I love to attend craft shows as well as antique and estate sales. My husband and I also love camping and hunting."

A quote by early 1900s English writer D.H. Lawrence has impacted Maegan. Referring to the human condition of self-pity, Lawrence said: "I never saw a wild thing (feel) sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself." Maegan said: "Lawrence's quote holds true today. Feeling sorry for yourself won't get you far in life. My take is: Press on – live life and learn from mistakes and achievements. Don't be afraid to be told 'no.' Take the risk, smile, love hard and be kind."
