Lew Spelgatti, CEO/Owner

Lew Spelgatti, CEO/Owner

Lew is the brains behind the business! An entrepreneur at heart, Lew holds Economics & Business Administration degrees from EWU and found his way to the home care industry after seeing firsthand the effects of an aging father's dementia on his family and friends. 

What brings you joy? 

There are a lot of things I like and are hobbies. Cars, sports, etc. But when I think of the word “joy,” I think of a deeper feeling. So, what really brings me joy is the triumph and growth of people who are trying. I love nothing more than to help those who want and strive for more.

Kelly Criste-Cook, General Manager

Kelly has been an integral part Home Instead since 2006 and has performed every job in the office at some point! Dedicated just doesn't do justice to the way Kelly gives her all every day to ensure Home Instead’s Richmond and Tappahannock offices are the best in town. She cares deeply, not just for the business, but for the CAREGivers, clients and administrative staff.   

What is your greatest reward or what makes even one day feel like a success to you?  

If I am able, each day, to be thankful for the challenges as well as the little victories…knowing that those challenges are there for a reason and a chance for me to be better/to grow. Giving thanks for the challenges makes them less challenging in the end.

Stephanie Derry, Client Care Manager

As the Client Care Manager, Stephanie Derry manages the entire client experience with Home Instead Senior Care. She is the main point of contact for all customer service, oversees the plans of care for our companionship clients, works hand-in-hand with the RNs for our personal care clients, and manages our quality assurance program. With her background in PR and advertising, Stephanie also manages our social media, public relations campaigns and public outreach events. 

What brings you joy?  

So many things! Good friends, bonfires, cold beer, sunsets that set the sky on fire, the smell of fresh cut grass, and grilling. Peanuts at baseball games. My cat Snooki, when she’s super snuggly and, especially, when she gets the zoomies. Helping others: Ut Prosim. The Be a Santa to a Senior program. (If you don’t know about Home Instead’s give-back programs, hit me up!)

Kelly Cohen - Home Care Consultant

Chances are Kelly Cohen is the first team member you'll speak to in regards to the services we offer. As a Home Care Consultant, she will guide you through all the options for care and help you get signed on for the services you, or your loved one, needs. She's also the team lead with all of our industry partners, so she can help connect you with services (like home health, hospice or facility placement) outside of Home Instead! 

What is your coolest story?  

 I did an 1,800-mile bike ride with my dad in 1997 through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and back to my college in Colorado. It was the most amazing adventure and my grandparents were our SAG wagon, getting us places to stay every night...even though we were fully equipped to camp each night!

Kelly Staples, Service Manager

Always with a smile and can-do attitude, Kelly is the mastermind behind the schedules for all of our CAREGivers and clients. She’s a bona fide matchmaker, paring clients and CAREGivers for success and friendship; and she’ll always be there when someone needs a listening ear or shoulder to cry on.  

Who are YOU? 

I am a person who loves to share my life with others. I am very close with my family, do everything with my friends, and value everyone I get to work with. Being kind and adventurous has always been important to me in life.

Mary Caglar, Service Coordinator

Prior to coming to Home Instead, Mary had been a caregiver personally and professionally. She’s no stranger to caring for others! And as a service coordinator, she helps ensure our clients and CAREGivers are getting/giving the very best services.  

What is your greatest reward or what makes even one day feel like a success to you? 

Making someone smile or making their day just a little bit better. Also, if I am better than the days before – if I am improving every day – it feels like a success.

Alida

Alida Salerno, HR Coordinator

From recruitment, the hiring process and training, through continued engagement and education, Alida is the number one resource for our all of our new and veteran CAREGivers. Having worked in HR for retail prior to joining Home Instead, Alida is well versed in helping others and providing the utmost customer service! 

What is one thing you do for yourself each day?  

Cook dinner – there is something therapeutic about a home cooked meal!

On-Call Staffing Coordinators

Here at Home Instead, we know that the care we provide is not limited to a "9-to-5." And since the care we provide is 24/7, our admin team is also working 24/7...all thanks to our amazing on-call staffing coordinators! These ladies are standing by the phones on weekday evenings and weekends, ready to assist our clients and caregivers with any emergency or urgent needs.

Janice Thomas is truly the voice behind Home Instead after hours and has been since 2006! Though her role in on-call is for emergencies only, Janice always handles everything with grace, urgency and a commitment to keeping everyone happy and cared for at all times.

Eraina Tweedy, once a full-time service coordinator for Home Instead, is no newbie to staffing and caregiving! Now she serves as one of our two main on-call staffing coordinators to help all of our clients and CAREGivers "after hours."

Our RN Team

Our incredible team of RNs keep our CAREGivers trained on the best practices and ensure that all of our personal care clients have accurate plans of care! 

Tamara Blathers, RN, leads our Personal Care Aid (PCA) trainings and is helping us work towards expanding our services for the future! Tamara also oversees the plans of care for several of our Richmond and Tappahannock clients. Tamara joined the Home Instead family in 2020 and we could not be any happier to have someone so smart and kind! 

Jackie Leep, RN, has been overseeing our personal care clients' care plans since 2006. She's one of the backbones to our team and has helped us provide services to clients throughout the Richmond metro and Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck. Those who have met her or spent any time around her will tell you that she is the sweetest person that they have ever met - and we, of course, agree!
