Client Asked Ennix to Stay … Forever

There are a number of reasons Ennix Hairston was selected as a Co-Care Professional of the Year at Home Instead® of Jackson, an award-winning franchise owned by Bryson and Linda McQuiston. One poignant story stands out the most for Ennix, who joined Home Instead three years ago. To get straight to the point: A client asked Ennix to move in.

“It is so amazing to have a client ask that. There was no kidding around. The fact is, you know they are serious. The only thing I can do is just try to go in every day on time and help as much as I can. It is wonderful to make them happy,” said Ennix, who shared the 2022 Care Pro of the Year award with Hildreth Cruse. Their honors are the highest in the franchise’s Care Pro Cornerstone Award program that shines the spotlight on the company’s best employees, either for the year or quarterly.

Despite the Care Pro of the Year honor, Ennix takes a humble approach to her job specifically and her life in general. “Sometimes it’s hard to fathom how much the clients love me for helping them. Really, that’s my job – helping them to the best of my ability. Sometimes they don’t want me to go home, but of course I can’t live with them. I do make the most of our time together,” Ennix said.

Working for Home Instead has been very good, Ennix said. She added, “I love every time I have been out to help a client. At the risk of sounding redundant, I really love what I do, and I just love my clients. I hate when my clients finally have to leave the world and go home to be with God. But I hope and pray that I gave them the best I could give them before they left this world.”

Recalling those melancholy, memorable days when she has lost a client, Ennix said: “Part of our Home Instead franchise’s mission is ‘Honor God in all you do.’ and this is how we do it, by honoring God’s creations.”

Ennix has been helping people her entire life. Most of that devotion has come as a family caregiver where she received nothing in return except the fulfillment of helping a vulnerable loved one – actually many of them. Ennix explained: “The first one was my father, who had colon cancer. Then it was my sister, who also had colon cancer. After that, my grandmother had breathing problems. Then it was my mother with dementia for 17 years. Also, my father-in-law battled dementia and diabetes for seven years.”

“Of course, Ennix said, “I have helped so many Home Instead clients for the past three years, mostly clients who face huge medical challenges or have been placed on hospice.”

While announcing Ennix’s honor, Client and Care Professional Experience Manager Brooke Childers said: “Ennix displays Home Instead’s guiding principles of ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ Ennix has shown she goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Ennix ‘checks all those boxes.’ We are proud of her.”

Ennix loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the West Tennessee franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros.
