It’s No Secret: Clients Want Elsa to Return

When the phone rings at Home Instead of Philadelphia and Elsa Birke’s name is mentioned, the Care Professional schedulers begin to scramble to find Elsa’s status for the next week. “Another client wants Elsa to return,” is a statement that is often repeated but has never grown old at the award-winning franchise owned by Steve Levin.

Home Instead Service Manager Janelle Muhlanga said, “Elsa has clients who enjoyed having her care for them, and they request her to return wherever she goes to assist a senior.” No wonder it’s challenging for Elsa to find time to talk about her Care Pro of the Month honor that Home Instead General Manager Charlea Lyn Grieco announced in December. Elsa is always working, and it’s something the soft-spoken Care Pro loves to do.

Elsa has been with Home Instead’s All-Star team of Care Pros since August 2020, and Janelle, Charlea and Steve all offer the same superlatives for Elsa: “Her contribution to Home Instead has been consistently good and is truly appreciated. Elsa has gone above and beyond to meet the needs of her clients.”

Janelle said: “Elsa is committed to the mission and vision of Home Instead, and we feel it is important to recognize her dedication to being a Care Professional. Elsa embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ ” Focusing on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped Elsa achieve Care Pro of the Month status. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. “Elsa is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client,” Janelle emphasized.

Elsa communicates effectively with the office whenever she observes a change in her clients’ statuses and builds lasting relationships with them, Janelle pointed out. In addition to her strong companionship skills, Elsa provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Elsa offers personal assistance with eating,

grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, Elsa and her fellow Care Pros not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

To build on their knowledge and experience, Elsa and other Philadelphia Care Pros are offered the opportunity to increase their dementia-care skills by taking part in the Home Instead network’s one-of-a-kind training protocol. Home Instead’s Person-Centered Care Training for Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association® for incorporating the evidence-based dementia-care practice recommendations in these topic areas: Alzheimer’s and dementia, person-centered care, assessment and care planning, activities of daily living, and behaviors and communication.

Elsa loves being a part of the Care Pro team for Steve’s franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pros across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
