The Administration for Community Living (ACL) released its first family caregiver strategy on Sept. 21, highlighting actions for different levels of government and the private sector can take to better support caregivers of all ages.

The National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers is the culmination of three years of extensive input and research from appointed representatives – including family caregivers –  serving on two advisory councils.

Among those appointed to craft the 2022 strategy was Chief Global Advocacy Officer at Home Instead + Honor Technology Jisella Dolan, who serves on the RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council.

As the only representative of the home care industry and as someone who has been a family caregiver, Dolan said the strategy is an incredible step forward in helping families and their loved ones.

“This is an historic moment in our country‘s history,” she said. “For the first time, we have created a national strategy devoted to empowering and supporting family caregivers.  For almost thirty years, Home Instead has provided family caregivers around the world respite, education, and help so that they can navigate their many responsibilities and know they are not alone. This national strategy galvanizes that much-needed support for family caregivers everywhere. We are grateful we had a seat at the table to help build it.”
