Fatou Fits Caregiving Into a Busy Life

Care Pro of the Month Fatou and Care Pro Advocate Amanda

Fatou Coker Singhateh is a woman for all seasons.

The twice-honored Care Professional, who has spent four years with Home Instead® of Collin County, also was featured last September in the African Leadership Magazine as one of the top 10 “Female Entrepreneurs of The Gambia,” a West African country.

Author Adeyiga Abisoye wrote: “After leaving a corporate job to commit to her family fully, Coker started TJ Fashion in 2003. Today, she is the CEO of TJ Fashion (in Dallas) and Lady Fanta bakery in The Gambia. A family commitment resulted in bigger adventures for Fatou Coker, leading her to create TJ music, and become a registered music promoter in New York City, Atlanta and Texas. She used her promotion company to promote African culture and music in the U.S. through events and music concerts.”

To go along with her entrepreneurial genius, Fatou is an award-winning Care Pro with owner Todd Felker’s franchise in Plano. In 2019, Fatou was featured with her Home Instead client in several Dallas Morning News stories about her local Home Instead agency that was selected as one of the Top 100 Places To Work in Dallas-Fort Worth.  Fatou also had been honored previously as a Care Pro of the Quarter and then as the office’s Care Pro of the Year.

Fatou is also busy with college classes while tending to her family “I am residing in Wylie, Texas, blessed with a humble husband and three beautiful children,” Fatou said.

Those who know the well-connected Fatou – she has more than 5,000 Facebook friends – are quick to note Fatou has all the qualities it takes to be a Care Pro. She is lovely inside and out, and is unceasingly positive. As one person said: “Those qualities make Fatou a fit anywhere she goes. Fatou is highly organized and obviously quite able to multitask. No task is below her. She helps with a range of home chores. Fatou is always eager to help and go above and beyond for her clients and their families.”

Before arriving at Home Instead, Fatou had been hands-on as a family senior caregiver. “I used to take care of my mother-in-law who was 80 years old, and she is still alive. I did everything for her, and the whole family was impressed with my patience and efforts,” Fatou recalled. A family member saw Fatou’s able assistance firsthand and mentioned Home Instead as a job possibility. “My cousin’s wife was working for Home Instead and told me I’d be a perfect fit working for Home Instead,” Fatou said. “I gave it a try, and now I see myself taking care of our seniors as a respectful, observant, reliable and patient person who provides first-class care.”

Fatou added: “Over the years, I have worked in various roles where the need to work closely with other people, follow strict rules and procedures, and demonstrate understanding and empathy were important. That is paramount as a Home Instead Care Pro. The thing I like most about working for Home Instead is its friendly staff and my skilled co-workers. Home Instead is the best place to work.”

While announcing Fatou’s honor as the franchise’s Care Pro of the Month for January, Home Instead Care Pro Advocate Amanda Ross said: “Fatou usually works overnight shifts, but in a pinch, she will cover other shifts if she can. She is always consistent and attentive with her clients. Fatou is a busy person, a successful one. With her immediate family, she helps with grandchildren. Her talent also is on display at her boutique, where her clothing consists of original creations and alterations. She never stops learning – she’s going to school, too.”

Fatou loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the Collin County franchise, a 15-year member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pros across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
