Client Tells Esther: "You Are an Angel"

Home Instead Caregiver of the Month Esther
When CAREGiver Esther Gamgne's client became self-conscious about a gash on her head following a fall, Esther took the initiative and launched into action. Esther brought in a colorful scarf and artfully wrapped it around her client's head. The act of kindness helped Esther's client feel so cute that she was happy to resume attending care facility activities during the pre-COVID-19 virus days.

Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Rianne Matthews said: "Esther Gamgne is a great example of the impact Home Instead CAREGivers can make. Through her compassionate heart and professionalism, she is part of a team providing round-the-clock care to a couple in assisted living who would not be able to continue to live there without CAREGiver support. Esther has built a genuine connection and shows warm attention to both her client and the spouse."

That is why Esther was honored as June CAREGiver of the Month for owner Michael Lammers' award-winning Home Instead Senior Care® franchise of Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Esther joined the Home Instead office in Louisville, Colorado, in November 2019. News of Esther's honor elicited both laughter and a tearful thank you from the CAREGiver.

"Home Instead is a fun place to work. It has an encouraging environment. I like working for Home Instead because, as a CAREGiver, I have a flexible and stable schedule. That is very important, and having an opportunity for continuing education is good. It is a no-stress environment. It is a productive place to work, and I have nice people around me," Esther said.

Esther has had some memorable days as a CAREGiver.

"One day, I took my client to the restroom. While I was helping her, she asked, 'Where did you learn how to do this?' Then she said, 'You are an angel,' " Esther said. "My faith impacts how I interact with people, and I must say I've been blessed because I've met some wonderful people by doing this job."

An observer told Esther that CAREGivers are worth their weight in gold, especially during this era of the novel coronavirus pandemic. She replied, "Caring for the elderly is not just about the salary. I've developed a passion for helping my client and showing up every day is a must. They need us. As a Home Instead CAREGiver with my experience level, I understand some tasks are more difficult than others."

In addition to her strong companionship skills, Esther provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Esther and other CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence, dementia support, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, CAREGivers not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

Esther loves being a part of the CAREGiver team for the Louisville franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Paul and Lori Hogan. The Home Instead Senior Care network is the world's leading provider of in-home care services for seniors, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide more than 70 million hours of care annually throughout the U.S. and 13 other countries.

Esther is among more than 90,000 CAREGivers, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead's purpose. It isn't hard to see Esther lives the Home Instead Senior Care® principles of "Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart."
