At Home Instead®, our success revolves around our CAREGiversâ„  – and we know it! We celebrate CAREGivers year-round in many ways: a note of appreciation, recognition in our employee newsletter, perhaps an impromptu office party.

Home Instead CAREGiver of the Year Award

CAREGiver appreciation is baked into our DNA. We sincerely value the passion and talent each CAREGiver brings to our mission day in and day out.

To thank our CAREGivers for all the amazing things they do, we nominate a person for our national CAREGiver of the Year award. It’s a small way to show how thankful we are to them for demonstrating compassion and exceptional care to the seniors and families they serve.
CAREGiver of the Year 2020

Rachael M.--CAREGiver of the Year 2020

Rachael has been with Home Instead since January 2020, so she is one of our relatively new CAREGivers, but she has done a fantastic job. She reports she is a natural-born caregiver, and enjoys meeting and helping people, and learning from her elders. She feels blessed that she gets to not only know her client but also the family too—she feels like part of the family. She’s been caring for others for most of her life, and worked professional as a caregiver for over a year before she joined our team. Her favorite memory of working with a client is one day where they danced together to Blues music—making her client smile and knowing she made his day a bit better is what she strives for daily. When Rachael isn’t working, she loves to read and listen to music! She enjoys going outside and watching her two dogs’ antics. Though Rachael works a lot with her clients and doesn’t have much free time, she says that her time spent with the clients makes her so happy, it feels like free time.

Meet Our CAREGivers

Karen C.--CAREGiver of the Month July 2021

We nominated Karen C. because the interactions she has with her clients are so cute, lively, and engaging! She goes above and beyond to help her clients feel at ease. Plus, her documentation is not only informative, but also a fun read!

Karen started caregiving when she was a teenager, caring for her grandmother who raised her while she battled leukemia. For Karen, caregiving is a way to give back to those who took care of her. Her favorite thing about
caregiving is that she is able to learn something new about her clients every day; but she also finds it amazing to see the feats her clients are able to accomplish, even when they are not having the best day. Karen's advice to new caregivers: "Don't take things personally. You know what you are about, and you know how much love you give your clients. They may act out against you because it's the only outlet they have."

When Karen isn't caregiving, she spends time with her family and pets--because family is #1 in her life. She also enjoys reading, taking long walks, and finding the courage to do things she wouldn't normally do--"because you only have one life to live, so you might as well do it!"
SamCGOMJune2021

Samantha P.--CAREGiver of the Month June 2021

Sam has only been with our company for a few months but she has made a huge impact! Her cheery personality and her adorably sweet interactions with her primary client made her an easy and obvious choice. We are so proud of Sam and glad she joined our team!

Sam took care of her grandmother who had dementia, which made her realize how serious the need for caregivers really was. She felt that God was calling her to this job. Her favorite thing about caregiving is being able to share her heart with someone else. Her favorite caregiving memory is when her client threw her a birthday party--Sam's client wanted to make her feel like family, and it meant the world to Sam.

When Sam isn't caregiving, she spends time playing with her dogs, hanging out with friends, or doing homework. She also does Bible study and prayer groups and other community service events. Sam sees herself in three years time completing her teaching degree at Thomas More and being a middle school math teacher full time. She also sees herself still visiting her best friend who is 90 years old. (awwww!)

Sam's advice for her fellow CAREGivers: "Going into this job isn't about getting tasks done. It's about caring with your whole heart for someone else!"
Caregiver of the Month May 2021

Chelsea L.--CAREGiver of the Month May 2021

Chelsea joined us almost 2 years ago exactly, and it has been a pleasure having her on our team. We are recognizing her because she has been integral over the last few months to establishing a routine for one of her clients who has dementia—and the information she shared with the office is now used regularly to help orient new CAREGivers to that client. We couldn’t provide the excellent care that we are known for without her help!

Chelsea came to Home Instead because she is interested in becoming a nurse, and figured working with clients in their homes would gain her some good experience with the older adult population. She enjoys working with all her clients, but she is particularly Fond of her dementia clients; she enjoys seeing them get excited when she walks in the door, and thinks it’s sweet when she gets mistaken for a family member.  When she isn’t caregiving, Chelsea likes to spend time with her daughter—they’ve been visiting the park a lot more now that the weather is getting better! Her advice for other CAREGivers: “Make sure you come into your client’s home with a good attitude—be respectful and remember you are a guest in their home! We should respect their belongs and their routines.”

Caregiver of the Month May 2021

Sara M.--CAREGiver of the Month April 2021

Sara joined our company in December 2020 and has been an incredibly hard working and dedicated CAREGiver—we are so glad she decided to join our team! Sara joined us after working at a local nursing home—she appreciates that she now has more time to dedicate to her clients, and more freedom to get to know them. She no longer has to worry about being rushed! She was inspired to go into caregiving due to her grandfather’s care—she believes it is extremely important to treat her clients as family, and to help make their lives easier and more comfortable. Her favorite thing about caregiving is being able to build a real relationship with her client—she knows their family, and has really gotten a chance to be a part of their life. Her favorite CAREGiving experience is doing exercises with her client, and helping her stay active and involved. When Sara isn’t working, she enjoys crafting with her cricut or being outdoors—fishing, kayaking, or hanging out with her family, friends, and her dog. Her advice to new CAREGivers: “Be yourself, don’t overthink everything. Just get to know your clients and be patient with them. Keep in mind its their life; we are just there to support it.”

Caregiver of the Month March 2021

Lisa C.--CAREGiver of the Month March 2021

Lisa is our CG of the Month for March! Lisa has been working with Home Instead for about 6 months. She has mulled around the idea of becoming a caregiver for a few years now, but finally decided to make the jump when her sister encouraged her. She likes caregiving—it’s not as grueling or monotonous as her previous jobs. She also loves that she gets the opportunity to form real connections with other people, especially her clients. It allows her to not only get to know them, but to care for them too. When Lisa is not caring for her clients, she enjoys reading—nonfiction or fiction (so long as it has a happy ending). She also enjoys nature and taking walks during nice weather. Lisa’s advice for fellow CAREGivers, both old and new: "If you are not sure, ask questions! Relax, it’s going to be okay, and your clients will appreciate it more if you get to know them, their interests, and their likes and dislikes. Try to stay on their agenda—don’t just do what you want because you feel that’s the way it should be. Doing that will just cause anxiety and stress for your client. We want to make them happy through everything we do."
Caregiver of the Month February 2021

Molly R.--CAREGiver of the Month February 2021

Molly is our CG of the Month for February! Molly worked with Home Instead several years ago, for about 4 years, before she decided to stay home with her newborn grandson. She has now returned and we couldn’t be happier to have her! Molly has always enjoyed working for people, and without any older family members of her own, she has found joy caring for seniors. Her favorite thing about being a CAREGiver is all the different people she gets to work with and the personalities she encounters. The relationships that she gets to build with them, and the new things she learns inspires her to get out of bed and come to work. When not working, Molly stays busy! She is an avid bike rider, even in this cold winter weather. She also enjoys spending time with her two grandkids, and she volunteers for and is on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati.  Molly’s advice for new CAREGivers: “Be open and willing to learn from everyone."

Caregiver of the Month January 2021

Nnenna A.--CAREGiver of the Month January 2021

Nnenna is our CG of the Month for January! Nnenna just recently celebrated her 9 year anniversary with Home Instead, and we couldn’t be happier to have her on our team! Nnenna enjoyed the experience she had taking care of her grandma, and that called her to become a caregiver, and eventually, a licensed practical nurse. But Nnenna loves doing home care and stuck to it all these years because she gets to have more one-on-one time with her clients, learning from them and listening to their stories and advice. She comes to work each day knowing that she is a positive influence on someone’s life, and that through her work, she is allowing our seniors to live their dreams of staying in their own homes. When Nnenna isn’t helping a senior, she spends time at home with her kids, watching movies or cooking a favorite meal. Nnenna’s advice to our new CAREGivers: “Take it one day at a time. When you first start, it seems hard and overwhelming, but once you learn the client, it will get better. Look forward to the good days ahead, and don’t let a bad first day dictate everything. Go the extra mile to make your client happy."
