Home Care Amplifies Home Health Care

Many clients are confused as to which services are provided by home care and which are provided by home health care.  Non-medical home care, such as Home Instead Senior Care in Goodlettsville, TN, amplifies home health care's services.

After a hospitalization, accident, or progressive decline due to a chronic condition, healthcare professionals might refer a patient to both a home health care service and a non-medical home care agency such as Home Instead Senior Care.  While both services are performed in a residential setting or continuum of care community, the services themselves vary in purpose.  Fortunately, Home Instead Senior Care's non-medical services support and improve a client's recovery, and amplify the care received through home health care services.

  • Exercises:  Home Instead CAREGivers provide exercise assistance that align with exercises a home health care physical therapist creates for a client.  Home Instead CAREGivers can help clients perform their exercises between home health care visits.

  • Status Updates:  Home Instead CAREGivers stay on high alert for warning signs, such as weight loss or gain, sleep disruptions and mood changes.  CAREGivers alert home health care social workers to any changes that need to be addressed.

  • Medication Reminders:  Home Instead CAREGivers monitor medications and remind clients to stay on track with their prescriptions.  This helps home health care nurses know if a client is taking his or her medications correctly.

  • Housekeeping:  Home Instead CAREGivers perform housekeeping duties so the client can focus on recovery.

Home health care provides medical and social work assistance through occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, nursing and social work.  Home health care is covered by Medicare and Medicaid, and is a temporary service with a goal of recovery from a health event.  A home health care employee will come to the patient's home 2-3 days a week for 1 hour visits.  Certified Nursing Assistants might be assigned to your case and they will provide bathing and light housekeeping 2-3 days a week on a temporary basis.

Home care, such as Home Instead Senior Care, provides non-medical, professional CAREGiving services.  The service is mainly private pay, but is also covered by a variety of payment programs, which vary by franchise.  Services may be temporary or long-term and the hours of one-on-one CAREGiving are solely dependent on the client's needs and requests.  We provide up to 24/7 care, so we are not limited to a set schedule of 2-3 visits per week.  Our shift minimum varies by franchise, but typically we are in a home for three hours at a time minimum to allow our clients and CAREGivers an appropriate amount of time to compete tasks without being rushed.  This allows for relationship-based care, not task-based care.

Home care amplifies the services provided by home health care agencies and increases the probability of a client recovering quickly and completely.
