A tradition of great caregiving means that we take care of our own as well as we take care you and your family.

At Home Instead Senior Care, we reward our local CAREGivers with CAREGiver of the Month and CAREGiver of the Year awards to show our appreciation for all they do. Home Instead, Inc. also recognizes regional CAREGivers of the Year and one special CAREGiver who shows exceptional dedication is the recipient of the national award — The Mary Steibel CAREGiverSM of the Year Award.

This program inspires CAREGivers to strive for excellence. It creates a sense of pride in the fact that the Home Instead Senior CareSM franchise network recognizes, appreciates and rewards their hard work, compassionate care and service to others.

Kristy very much deserves this recognition. From her first day as a CAREGiver, she has put in 110%. She hit the ground running when she started with us last year. Not only does she accept most shifts that are offered to her, she bends over backwards for all of her clients. Everywhere we go they sing her praises. Even those that are hesitant to accept new CG’s, fall in love with her. She goes above and beyond to earn their trust, respect & admiration. She encourages exercise, makes meals, brings them meals from home, & does their hair, (she’s also a professional hairdresser). She also takes the initiative to write out daily plans for clients that don’t have them so that the next CG knows what the routine is so the client doesn’t have to repeat themselves. In general, this just makes them feel good. When she comes across a client that is a little stand-offish, she makes it her mission to bring them around. We can’t say enough about what a treasure she is. ​


Michelle B. – February 2017

Michelle has been a CAREGiver with us since 2012. She is always open to learning and gaining knowledge of the different diseases and processes of aging. If there’s been a class offered, she has probably taken it at some point. She is a hardworking CAREGiver that never misses a shift. Working 6 days a week, she puts all of her effort into finding what is best for the client that she is caring for. Whether it’s new exercises, encouragement in their treatment, or organization in the home, Michelle is on top of it. We enjoy seeing her smile and sincere personality come in our doors during the meetings or anything else we have going on. We are proud to see a CAREGiver like Michelle that can be perceived as one of the best role models for Home Instead. If you are ever able to meet Michelle, be sure to congratulate Michelle when you see her! She deserves it.​

Cheryl has dealt with some of the hardest clients and days have felt like weeks at times, but she handles everything with professionalism and carries herself with a lot of pride. We are glad to see Cheryl in just about every class that we offer. She is always anxious to learn and develop herself into a better CAREGiver than she already is. Committed to her faith, she loves being able to incorporate that in her style of caring for seniors. She has a heart bigger than most and loves sharing it with others. Through the cold, heat, rain or shine, Cheryl dedicates herself to always being there for the ones that need her help. Those seniors, as well as us, are so thankful to have a CAREGiver like Cheryl! ​

Maggie is a CAREGiver that simply lights up the room when she walks in. There are no strangers to Maggie. She is quick to speak with anyone that she meets and converses with them as if they have been friends for years. Since day 1 with Home Instead, Maggie has shown her dedication to our seniors. She never misses a day and she understands the true meaning of a senior needing care. She is always there and motivating the clients to live life to the fullest. We always look forward to seeing Maggie at meetings and classes. She is certain to take extra effort to attend the trainings and learn as much as she can about the clients. It takes a special person to have such a desire to gain knowledge about some of the heart breaking and disabling conditions that seniors must face. Maggie is sure to be first in line to learn and find new ways to take care of our clients. She loves finding new activities or tasks that can motivate them to stay independent and happier in their homes. To Maggie, it truly is personal. To our clients, she is a lifesaver. ​

Judy is not only a wonderful person, but she is a terrific team player.  She is always there when you need her to pick up extra shifts or lend a helping hand.  She always has a smile when attending our CAREGiver Meetings. Attending classes and caring for our seniors is her passion.  “I love what I do,” she is often heard saying. Everyone that she meets just loves her and enjoys their time with her. If you get the time to sit and speak with Judy, you should ask her about some of the stories that she has about particular clients as well as her own parents. It’s so inspiring to see Judy bring dreams and goals to reality with seniors. She has so much faith in their abilities, it’s simply amazing. She is the best CAREGiver to motivate seniors into what she knows and they think they can do. ​

Kim came to Home Instead in the fall of 2014 due to her husband’s job. Thank goodness for this. We love having Kim on our team. She believes that being a CAREGiver is definitely her calling. She enjoys the opportunity to help other when they are unable to help themselves. The most memorable times as a CAREGiver is when she gets to work with a client living with Dementia. There are times when they remember her and that alone can simply brighten her day. All of her client’s know that she is always there for them. She assures them that she’ll be there on schedule and commits herself to it. Kim also said that another best part to being a CAREGiver is when she gets the opportunity to go into their homes and watch them grow. Kim once said, “There’s no better joy than knowing that I can help take care of them until they do not need me anymore. I love helping them build strength and encourage them to do things that they were once unable to do.” To know that someone couldn’t walk well or prepare a healthy meal and, over time, they can because of one person. How often does someone actually get to work themselves out of a job? That’s amazing!

We are so proud to have Kim on our team. She is always more than willing to go out of her way and help our clients. Kim has a heart of gold that would be glad to give it away to anyone. She never hesitates to step up and help out where she can. Kim puts all of her effort into making sure that the clients are receiving no less than 100% of what they deserve and that is exceptional care! We never fail to see Kim come through the doors to attend training or CAREGiver Meetings. Even when she is upset about the day, she always wears a smile and expresses her happiness and love for seniors. It brings great joy to us when a client calls us to ask if we can send her back. Everyone that she meets just loves her and enjoys their time with her. Thank you, Kim, for being outstanding! ​

We do not even know where to begin with Jenifer. She is the perfect example of what it means to “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart”. She has a heart of gold and a body of armor. This CAREGiver never stops and commits herself for serving others. Before Home Instead, Jenifer, already had a life full of obstacles that most people do not get the honor of having. She has been devoted to caring for her husband and having a relationship that is stronger than most. Between this and being a stay-at-home mom for a long time, she found it to be the right time to step out of her box and care for others. She provides a level of care that truly makes Home Instead personal. Jenifer treats each and every client as if they were her own family. Our clients get excited with her around because they trust Jenifer to help them stay independent and safe in the comfort of their own homes. She can turn anything into something fun and motivational. If only we could share Jenifer’s spirit with everyone in the world.​

Melissa has put in a lot of effort to earn this opportunity! It’s hard for us not to pick her this month. Our clients always ask for her return whether she is there for a 1 time fill in or on-going week to week. Melissa has a natural gene to care not just for people, but for seniors. She has the patience that it takes to care for someone with dementia in particular. To her, it is so easy to be patient, because our clients are more than a job to go to each day. There are not too many people like Melissa and we are thrilled to have her here. 7 days a week and at any time of day, Melissa has shown herself to be committed to Home Instead while providing the best care possible. She treats each person as if they were her own family. Melissa has a strong and lovely personality that can handle any situation in a professional manner. She is well organized and prepares for her shifts ahead of time. We appreciate how well she communicates with us and attends meetings or trainings as much as she can. We recognize that she does keep a busy schedule, but manages to balance everything. Having kids at home and always on the go, she never fails to give 100% into our seniors.​

Before Home Instead, Tommie cared for a lady for 13 years. Tommie grew close with the family and the client’s daughter over those years. Once she passed, the daughter saw one of our ads and knew this would be the perfect thing for Tommie to do. Tommie has been an absolute blessing. She is always picking up extra shifts to cover for people when they are sick or away. She has a personality that makes you to be around her all day; one who can converse about anything at any random moment. Tommie works with clients that have her covering a lot of ground in our territory and we never hear a complaint coming from her. 24 hours a day, Tommie goes above and beyond to make sure the clients are receiving the absolute best care that she can provide. She loves getting feedback from our clients and finding new adventures to have during the time she gets to spend with them. Every day is a new day to her and she knows just how to cater to the needs of the clients. When I asked Tommie about her favorite part of Home Instead, she replied, “I love getting to see the clients enjoy what we can do for them. Being able to provide assistance with the simple things in life that most people take for granted brings a reward in itself. Just knowing that I can put a smile on their face and see them happy is the best part of my day”. Tommie said that she hopes to retire from Home Instead one day and plans to continue serving seniors for as long as she can.​

We are pleased to announce that Liz is at top of mind when it comes to pointing out one of our best CAREGivers. She is hard-working and shows the best qualities of being a CAREGiver. Liz also works as a librarian full time aside from CAREGiving. We enjoy getting to see her when she comes in to attend classes or meetings. Liz has a natural talent for adapting her CAREGiving style to meet the needs of our clients. It’s not too often that we get to meet someone with such a natural desire to serve people. She never misses a shift, never complains, and always helps as much as her schedule allows. We are so thankful to have Liz. Her dedication to Home Instead Senior Care is the perfect example of a role model for our company.​

Shirley has been an exceptional CAREGiver. With a bubbly personality and always wearing a smile, we know that we can count on her. Shirley is sure to go out of her way for the clients and makes sure they are happy and safe. A family member to one of the clients that Shirley cares for called and said that "Mom" is always asking where Shirley is when she isn’t there. The client doesn’t trust or confide in anyone it seems, except Shirley. She is the glue that keeps sanity in the home.  In addition to spending so much of her time with clients, Shirley manages to find time to attend the CAREGiver Meetings and trainings. She is always staying busy and works outside of Home Instead, as well. She loves to be involved with events such as tastings and giving things away. Shirley has such a sharing heart and stays devoted to serving others. She is always anxious to learn more and better herself in serving our clients. Anytime that we call Shirley to be somewhere, she is always willing to go and take care of that client. Thank you, Shirley, for being a wonderful CAREGiver and a great part of this team.​

Melissa has always wanted to give back. She goes above and beyond what is asked of her. Most clients say that when she walks into the home they never have to ask her to do anything because she just does it. They feel at ease when she is around. She is always flexible for her clients’ needs and time. She is always willing to help out another client when they need it. Melissa is well liked by every client that she meets and many wish to have clones of her so that everyone could have one. She is very sweet, kind, and happy. She has a natural talent that can motivate people and bring up their moods. She is always looking after the best interest of our clients even if it may not be convenient for her. She has continued to do an outstanding job even when clients are picky or when she has been with someone for a long time, she doesn’t get complacent and doesn’t take advantage of the more laid back clients. Melissa knows that being a CAREGiver is where her heart is and she refuses to go anywhere else in life.  Regardless of how she feels, she’s there for her clients and never misses a beat. We have heard on many occasions that the clients bring happiness and a sense of peace. Melissa has no doubt that being a CAREGiver has been the best decision of her career. Melissa is being recognized this month for her strong commitment and dedication to Home Instead Senior Care. When she came to Home Instead, Melissa didn’t think that this was going to be very easy for her. However, with her in search of supplemental income, she was willing to give it a try and caregiving is something she always wanted to try to do. After getting started she realized being a CAREGiver provided her with a reward that no one could ever take from her. She enjoys our clients and cherishes every minute that she gets with them. They are more than clients to her, they have become friends and family. Working for Home Instead has made her feel like a “Bright spot in a person’s day”. She is so delighted to have a job that doesn’t feel like a job and we are so proud of her when we see her walk through the door to attend the CAREGiver Meeting or many of the On-Going Development classes. Melissa is always willing to help in any way that she can. It is important to her that she keeps up to date on the new information taught in the classes and implementing it into her CAREGiving skills. Melissa always keeps the urgency of client care as top priority. With a busy schedule on her hands, she still makes sure to find time for family. She says that she never wants to quit working for Home Instead.  Thank you, Melissa, for being not only a great CAREGiver, but being a great employee with Home Instead. ​Donna moved here from Winchester Virginia in April 2015.  She felt the Lord calling her to move to Waynesboro away from the hustle and bustle and find a small town for true country living. Donna cared for her mother for 3 years and helped her through the stages of Dementia.  After her mother passed in July of 2014, she found peace and happiness in helping the elderly and decided to work for Home Instead.  When she is not working she is helping to get her house built.  In between that and being a CAREGiver, Donna is committed to doing work for the Lord and traveling on missionary trips.

When we asked Donna about what motivates her every day, she replied, "God requires us to take care of our elders and children and animals. I believe that the elderly are the back bone of our country and they deserve to live out their life with care and respect and dignity. I like helping the elderly because they have worked hard all of their lives and in their older years they need help and I have a special place in my heart for them. I want too to be able to stand in front of God on judgment day and to hear him say, "Well done my child". I find joy in knowing that I have done my best and strive to do even more in helping them." Donna is such a great CAREGiver and we know that we can always count on her being there. From snow days to holidays to CAREGiver Meetings, Donna will be there. Thank you for all that you do.

​Jennifer has been with Home Instead since 2014. She enjoys getting close to her clients. To her, it’s the little things that count and keep her going. She is a wonderful CAREGiver as well as being devoted to her schooling. While working part-time with Home Instead, she is a full-time student. Her studies and experience with our clients create the foundation that’s building her career to be a nurse in the future. Jennifer never takes a break and gives her 100% into everything that she does. We know that when we need and call her, she will be there. In addition to her studies and caring for seniors, Jennifer has spent a lot of time traveling for missionary work. She has traveled to Alaska and other great places with the desire in reaching out to children in need. She has also done numerous amounts of community service for people with special needs. We are very proud of Jennifer.

​Selinda has been a caregiver since she was in high school. She grew up in Memphis.  When she moved to the Middle Tennessee area, she was looking for part time work. A friend of hers works for Home Instead Senior Care and referred Selinda.  She would often hear the good things about Home Instead Senior Care and wondered what benefits it could offer her. After a few times of hearing about the company, she decided that she needed to check it out. With having so many years of experience, she knew that it could be the perfect place for her to start while she tried to pursue her lifelong career goals.  She really enjoys the fact that we will work with her flexible schedule.  “Home Instead is a great place to work. The staff is always understanding and makes you feel like Family”.  She enjoys that fact that she can call anytime of the day and there will always be someone here to answer her. When asked what her favorite part of being a CAREGiver is, Selinda said that she got a regular client that she fell in love with. Even though they never had to leave and go anywhere, Selinda and her client enjoy spending a lot of their time playing in makeup and nail care. One of her client’s favorite things to do was have her nails painted. To Selinda, it’s the smallest things that can make such a big difference and brighten her world.

Dwight had been a full time Pastor for more than a decade. He has been a professional songwriter for Contemporary Christian music for many years. He began doing that in the 1980’s. He wrote a few songs with Jenny Owens and Point of Grace. Life was going great until he encountered a downfall. The church that he had been preaching at for so long had ran out of funds and Dwight lost his job as a Pastor. He thought about moving and what his other options could be. Soon after, Dwight came across the Goodwill Job Fair in Franklin and thought he would just check it out. Our representative spent plenty of time going over the benefits of working for Home Instead Senior Care. Dwight was convinced that he needed to get on the computer right away and become a CAREGiver. Although he wondered if he would be the right person to care for elderly, somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew that he could do it. In turn, Dwight quickly fell in love with being a CAREGiver. He enjoyed spending the time with his clients and making a difference.

Dwight feels the benefits of being a CAREGiver with Home Instead is that he knows there is a supportive Admin Team here 24/7. And when asked about his favorite memory with one of his clients, he said that his client, Mr. Luke, almost never smiles. If he can leave at the end of the day and make him smile just one time, then he feels blessed. Mr. Luke’s wife is a busy body. She is always on the go and finding things to do. One day, their daughter-in-law asked, “Dwight, I’ve just got to know, how do you get her to stop and take a break?” Dwight said that he figured the wife out rather quickly and lets her boss him around. Then, after she gets to do that, she settles. Mr. Luke laughed so hard and so did his wife. That was the first time he ever got to hear him laugh, let alone smile. Something that simple changed Dwight’s life and truly makes him enjoy being a CAREGiver. His hopes is to one day have Home Instead Senior Care taking care of him. Thank you, Dwight!

​Claudia spent many years in medical billing. She loved her career, but felt that she wasn’t going anywhere. She was always the person on the other end of the phone that answered questions for a lot of seniors that didn’t understand what they were reading or receiving in the mail. That is when Claudia thought it was time to change her feelings. She didn’t want to be the person on the phone. She wanted to be able to give assistance and answer to their needs in person.  Claudia’s favorite part of being a CAREGiver is that she can meet so many nice people. To her, it’s unlimited. She also works part time in Administration. She says, “Sometimes, being able to balance both of them can be a task, but when I get to spend that time with my clients, the joy of being there and taking care of their needs really brightens my day. The stress of everyday life becomes invisible. It’s just me and them.” Thank you so much for all that you do, Claudia.

We at Home Instead pride ourselves on our CAREGivers ability to enhance the lives of every senior they come into contact with. Lois is a perfect example of a CAREGiver who performs her job with love and a caring heart. We were fortunate to begin our relationship with Lois in February of 2015 after she read about us in the Spring Hill Advertiser. Lois says she was interested in becoming a CAREGiver because she wanted to take care of seniors, but didn’t have any medical licensing or degrees. The CAREGiver position was a perfect fit for Lois because of this and also because she wanted a job that would work around her schedule. Before becoming a CAREGiver, Lois lived and worked in Mississippi as a receptionist as well as a counselor at a pregnancy choices clinic. When asked “what is one thing you want everyone to know about being a CAREGiver with Home Instead Senior Care?” Lois spoke about Home Instead’s ongoing training and development program for its CAREGivers. She talked about how the initial training and ongoing training that all CAREGivers receive “equips us to be effective CAREGivers and puts us all on the same page.” Lois is always willing to help out a client in need even on short notice. We at Home Instead can always rely on Lois to provide the best care to our clients no matter what the circumstances are. Lois has developed wonderful relationships with her clients and some close friendships have evolved from those. When asked about a special memory she has with a client, Lois mentioned that she has developed some close friendships with people who she met as clients through Home Instead.​

Roosevelt received the honor of being named CAREGiver of the month exactly one year after beginning his career with Home Instead Senior Care. Roosevelt attended a job fair in Spring Hill, TN in the summer of 2014 where he was introduced to Home Instead and put his name on a calling list. He stated that we were the first to call him, and “the rest is history.” Roosevelt says he loves his job as a CAREGiver and the “wonderful, good people” he works with. Before becoming a CAREGiver, Roosevelt spent his time teaching children with behavioral problems and also held a job working for the federal government. We here at Home Instead couldn’t be more grateful for Roosevelt’s continued dedication to our clients. He is always willing to help out a client in need and goes out of his way to ensure everyone is receiving the best quality care. Roosevelt has a personal connection with Home Instead through caring for his mother for 10 years, which led him to become a CAREGiver. When asked “what is one thing everyone should know about being a CAREGiver with Home Instead?” Roosevelt replied “you have to love and care for people.” Roosevelt exemplifies this on a regular basis. He recalled some touching memories of a client who recently passed. Roosevelt said “He would always smile and give me a handshake. On weekends he would ask me to pray for him. I’d hold his hand, get on my knees, and pray for him.”  Roosevelt’s continuous love and support for his clients is what led to his CAREGiver of the month award, and we look forward to working with Roosevelt’s caring heart for many years to come. ​

Dorinda has been working with the elderly for many years and became interested in Home Instead Senior Care when she learned that she could be getting paid for what she had been doing most of her life for free! Dorinda has been a loyal CAREGiver for almost two years now after visiting us in the office to see what we were all about. She says that the Lord had his hand on her shoulder the whole way and led her straight to the door of her long-time client, Ms. Mary. Before becoming a CAREGiver, Dorinda held a wide variety of positions in a number of different fields. She has a degree in accounting and ran her family’s construction business for a number of years. Dorinda also worked as a dietician, taught nutrition in schools, and even hosted her own cooking show on channel 5 called “Coffee with Dorinda.” When asked what she thinks others should know about being a CAREGiver, Dorinda said “CAREGiving has been one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in life. I’m right where the Lord wants me. I’ve always gravitated toward older women since my mother passed away at 52 from cancer.” Dorinda has truly enhanced the lives of our clients, and we are so grateful to have her on our team. ​

​Barbara lived in Georgia much of her life. She attended college and graduated in Computer Science and Accounting in the 90’s.  She had a great start with IBM. While pursuing her career, she also fulfilled her passion in working at a local bakery on the weekends.  She later decided to take a new path in her life and focused on helping people because she absolutely loves talking to new people and hearing their stories.  Barbara decided to be a Cashier for many years at Kroger.  She also sold Avon for 12 years while working for Kroger up until she had a really bad accident and came to the conclusion that it was time to take a break after her long career in Customer Service.  Barbara retired for a while until she became restless. She saw the Home Instead Senior Care ad in the newspaper and felt that it was calling her name. Barbara says that she has a lot of fun with her clients and gets a lot of education. She’s always trying to learn something new from them and looks forward to many more years. Barbara keeps her faith in the Lord and knows that if she ever stops being a CAREGiver, then she’ll be lost. We’re so thankful to have such a dedicated CAREGiver!

​Sherri’s journey with Home Instead had an interesting start. One day while Pattye, our Client Care Coordinator and Emily, Executive Director were meeting offsite at Franklin Chop House they bumped into this wonderful potential CAREGiver. It was clear that Sherri was looking for employment in a field where she could feel needed and Pattye made a point to tell her about what we do! We’re so glad Pattye did because not much later Sherri was in our Training Class and beginning to give back. Since then, we’ve received handwritten letters thanking us for the outstanding job Ms. Sherri has done and the wonderful care she provides. Beyond the one-on-one exceptional care, Sherri is willing to go above and beyond at times she may not normally be available. She completely understands our mission at Home Instead and knows that when she answers the call, one more client is able to stay “Home Instead” for that much longer! Personally Sherri relates to our mission as she has a mother who is 83 and a father who is 91 years old, she values their quality of life and wants to help find value in others similar to her parents. When Sherri was asked to describe what it was like to work with Home Instead she stated that “Home Instead is a good company to work for, not only is Home Instead concerned with providing quality care to our clients but the office staff is concerned with making sure that the CAREGivers are well cared for.” She went on to say “Home Instead makes good matches and wants to ensure that not only is the client comfortable but the CAREGiver is comfortable, the administrative looks at matches from both sides and is always flexible in working with the CAREGivers.” Sherri enjoys watching her clients be independent and being able to help them maintain their independence. By understanding this she, without a doubt, deserves the CAREGiver of the Month award and we are proud to honor her with this. We received a wonderful Christmas present in 2012 when Annie joined our team of CAREGivers and it has been the gift that keeps on giving. Prior to working with Home Instead Senior Care she worked for General Motors for 32 years as a Material Driver. After retiring she wanted to be sure that she did not become a couch potato so she began looking for caregiving opportunities because of her love for people. She worked for a company similar to ours that was not able to offer her the amount of work she needed or within the right location and when she drove by our office she knew she had to stop in and see all that we do! During her time with us she has helped with many clients who have needed help fairly last minute. 90% of her CAREGiver hours served have been with the same client Monday through Friday but there have definitely been times when we were able to call upon Annie for help on the weekends and she has gladly made it work. When Annie was asked what stood out about working with Home Instead Senior Care she stated, “The staff. I enjoy being in the company of the staff. I love the staff. They help me when I have a problem and if they do not have an answer right then they will come back and let me know the answer when they do!” When Annie speaks to us about the client she cares for, who we’ll refer to as Mrs. J, she describes herself as being her right hand, left hand, right foot, and left foot. Mrs. J always tells Annie, “You’ll be here till the Lord calls me home.” The relationship they share is among the many our clients and CAREGivers share and we are so blessed to be a part of the lasting memories our CAREGivers and clients are able to make. ​

​In May of 2013 after an attempt at building a private caregiver company with her daughter, Jayne realized she was more suited to let someone else take care of the behind the scenes business. That is when she decided to join Home Instead Senior Care and do what she did best, give care. She realized she was meant to be a CAREGiver after helping to care for her mother in law and becoming a part of a community of caregivers who were also caring for their loved ones. That’s when she decided being a professional caregiver was her next calling. Jayne said one of her favorite things about doing what she does is learning their history and learning about each of our client’s legacy. We are honored to know that Jayne found a home with Home Instead Senior Care and so proud to know she is out there helping seniors to be independent and at home.

​Lillie became a CAREGiver in August of 2013 and has been staying young ever since! Lillie is one of our eldest CAREGivers but this has not stopped her from making a difference in the lives of many seniors some even younger than her! The reason Lillie does such an exceptional job is because she has a unique gift in working with seniors that are suffering from Dementia and more specifically Alzheimer’s. Home Instead Senior Care was not the only agency that Ms. Lillie looked into for a CAREGiver opportunity however, we were the only ones that looked past her age and saw the opportunity in her abilities to work with Alzheimer’s. As Lillie put it, “the only one who would give her a chance!” and boy are we glad we did! There are many seniors today that have had the pleasure of having Lillie in their lives and helping them to feel alive again. Her innate ability to bring a smile to someone’s face and assurance in feeling safe is like no other. Lillie stated “Home Instead tries to work with the CAREGivers. We try to make the CAREGivers feel comfortable when we assign CAREGivers to shifts because they know that everyone needs to be happy.” Although Lillie may not be able to work with our clients that needs more physical hand’s on assistance we have been able to find her many clients who just need a little bit of love and redirection. ​After moving to Tennessee from California to be closer to family, Janet wanted to use her medical knowledge and experience to help people in need. When coming across Home Instead Senior Care online she knew that Home Instead would be a good fit. Since going through Orientation and Training with Home Instead Janet has built relationships with many clients who could not imagine having any one else! One thing Janet says that sticks out about working for Home Instead is that “The people are very nice to work for, when asking for help they never make you feel guilty if you are personally unavailable to help. The pats on the back given by the administrative staff for a job well done really goes a long way. Not to mention, the flexible hours that are available!” Janet feels that our clients have become family to her and just walking in their door makes her smile. We are so glad to have Janet on our team, although quiet and shy, at first she has an intuitive way of meeting our clients needs and bringing them quality of life. We are so blessed to have such a great CAREGiver!

​After some challenges at her previous place of employment Debbie decided she wanted to find a good company to be a part of and after diligent research on the internet and word of mouth in the community she knew Home Instead Senior Care was the place which God was leading her. Since then Debbie has been improving the quality of life for our clients and creating relationships with clients and families. Our core purpose at Home Instead Senior Care is “To relentlessly pursue positive ways to make a senior more comfortable and secure in their home.” And Debbie is the epitome of this purpose. From doing everything she can to stop a flooding garage to holding a client’s hand as she takes her last breaths. Debbie is truly an all-around CAREGiver in every sense of the word. When Debbie was asked what she would want everyone to know about Home Instead she stated, “I cannot say enough good things about Home Instead. Home Instead not only takes care of the clients but we also take care of the staff. I came from a place of employment prior to Home Instead that did not appreciate me. And being appreciated means more to me than anything and I feel that in so many ways from the administrative staff. Sometimes just having the administrative team there to talk to is all a CAREGiver needs and you all are always there to listen.” Debbie also especially works towards building bonds with client family members, after losing one of our clients to cancer she and our client’s daughter still remain in touch and share memories. This has not only helped Debbie heal through the loss of our client but Debbie has helped this daughter to cherish the memories of her mother. Every month we have the opportunity to honor one of our outstanding CAREGivers and we are very honored to wrap the year up with honoring Debbie! ​We are so blessed to have Ms. Christina on our team. In May of 2014 Christina began providing exceptional care for our clients. Recently we asked Christina to be the first impression to one of our newer clients for Home Instead because we knew she would be an outstanding first impression for our company. After leaving her first assignment with her, Christina called to say that when she left she stated to the client “I hope that I was able to make a difference for you and that you were pleased with Home Instead services.” The client responded, “If the services continue to do as well as you did then I will be very pleased!” Prior to working with Home Instead Senior Care Christina was a private caregiver for a gentleman for 3 years. After 3 years he passed away and Christina was left without an income. She joined our team and is very glad she did! She realized that the advantage of being with an agency is that she has the opportunity to meet more people and have more experiences a long with the administrative support she receives when her days are difficult! She also knows that if she is caring for a client and they move or pass away she has the security of knowing we have other clients she can be matched with and her income will not be greatly affected. When we asked Christina the one thing she would want everyone to know about being a CAREGiver with Home Instead Senior Care she said, “This is the most awesome job in the entire world! But to me it is not a job it is a service. These people trust you enough to come into their home and place themselves in a vulnerable situation and I have the most incredible opportunity to build trust with these individuals. One day I may need care myself and I want to be able to help people who need help while I still can!” From telling clients who are depressed and down stories that make them laugh, to helping clients with very last minute needs by being at their door – Christina is an all-star and we are extremely blessed to have her!

​In May of 2014 Ashley began making a difference in the lives of our clients! While working at Subway Ashley witnessed an unsettling experience of a client and caregiver from another agency. As they were placing their order Ashley became sad for the senior in need as the caregiver showed very little patience or compassion. Ashley knew then that she could make a difference in the life of a senior and show them the compassion and patience which they deserved. It wasn’t too much later that Ashley had the opportunity to do just that with one of our clients with dementia. Every time she provided care for this client they would play a card game which the client called “golf”, it wasn’t long before Ashley realized that the rules would always change in how to win and that every time Ashley would lose! Ashley was so patient and had so much fun helping her client win every time! As a student at Columbia State Ashley wanted to see where she would be most successful and becoming a CAREGiver definitely helped guide her in knowing that she wanted to help others. When Ashley was asked what she would want everyone to know about being a CAREGiver with Home Instead Senior she stated “Every time I go to a new client I expect to help them but by the time I leave I realize I have learned and been helped so much more!” We are so grateful for the difference Ashley has made and continues to make!

​Bremesha joined our team in October of 2013 after hearing about Home Instead from her advisor at TSU. When she began with Home Instead she was only 22 years old but at such a young age she carried such a mature manner that no matter who she went to as a CAREGiver they were extremely impressed with her professionalism. Bremesha worked at Wendy’s as her first job as a student but feels that Home Instead is her first true job because what she does she knows it matters. When caring for one of her clients, who we will call “Ms. D”, about a month before Ms. D passed away she told Bremesha that she was a natural CAREGiver and those words encouraged and motivated Bremesha to keep going even through the difficult reality of clients eventually passing. Bremesha’s secret to her success is that being a CAREGiver is not just about caring for clients but also about building friendships. We are so grateful to have someone of the younger generation who is ambitious to care and build quality relationships with our senior generation. She breaks the mold and we’re proud to have her on our team!

​In September of 2013 Becky joined our team of CAREGivers and many of our clients are so glad that she did. Becky was a stay at home mom for many years before she decided it was time to get back out of the house and earn supplemental income. When Becky was asked why she decided to become a CAREGiver with Home Instead Senior Care she said, “Every job I have had, at its core, was about helping people and I wanted to find a job where I could give to others. I liked Home Instead Senior Care because of their flexibility with scheduling. They were willing and able to work with my limited availability and family responsibilities.” Becky’s spirit is very contagious as well as her laugh. Many times you can hear Becky laughing with someone and making sure someone else laughs for the day. After a few months of providing wonderful care to our clients, Becky was asked to begin helping in the office every Monday morning. Our administrative team gathers for a meeting every Monday to ensure that we begin our week started on the right foot and because of Becky’s professionalism and willingness to help out in any way she is needed Becky began helping in the office every week. Just as Becky is willing to go above and beyond to help the administrative staff she is also always going above and beyond for our clients. Whether that’s celebrating their birthday at Steak & Shake with a shake or helping to organize years of clutter. When the Director of Client Services was asked what stood out about Becky as a CAREGiver, she stated, “Becky is amazing! She is always willing to help when she can. Her clients can depend on her to be there on time. Whenever I speak to her she has a smile in her voice!” She is a tremendous asset to our team and we are grateful for Becky’s passion behind our mission here at Home Instead Senior Care!

Riki has been with Home Instead Senior Care since May of 2013. Since her time with us she has proven over and over again her loyalty and dedication to our clients. There have been numerous times where she has rearranged her personal schedule in order to go above and beyond to care for our clients. Prior to joining Home Instead Senior Care Riki was a stay at home mom for many years. She decided to become a CAREGiver with Home Instead Senior Care because her kids were older and she knew this would be a great opportunity to make a difference. Having a team of CAREGivers like Riki is what sets us apart. We are so grateful for her compassion for seniors and to being an example to all. Riki provides care to our client 7 days a week and doesn’t blink an eye. Of course Riki knows that if she needs a day off all she has to do is call, but in Riki’s mind she couldn’t imagine not seeing our client every day. They have truly become best friends. Melody has been with Home Instead since August 2013. Melody has been with the same client in the Santa Fe area for most of her time with us. She goes above and beyond for our client on a daily basis providing her with the absolute best care. Melody’s clients love her and look forward to seeing her daily. Melody has also stepped in and made herself available to take on additional clients when it was needed for her area. The family of her client stated: “Melody is such a blessing for mom and for our entire family. Knowing that she is with mom when we can’t be gives us all great peace of mind. Ever since Edward’s first visit with a client in September of 2013 he has been of high demand. We know that if we send Edward to a client he has never met before, we will be getting a phone call at the end of the assignment requesting him to be their primary CAREGiver. Edward makes an impact on client’s lives in a way that words cannot express. There is just something remarkable about his ability to Build Trust and Take the Lead with each and every client. Edward is a CAREGiver by nature, before joining the Home Instead Senior Care team Edward was always finding ways to help out neighbors and seniors in his community in order to make their lives a little bit easier. It isn’t until you meet Edward that you really understand what going above and beyond the call of duty really means. He has an innate ability to read the unspoken words of clients and personalize care in such a manner that clients and family members are in awe at all that he does. We are very blessed to have Edward on our team. ​

On April 24th of 2012 Angie began her journey with Home Instead Senior Care. During her journey she touched a number of our client’s lives in such remarkable ways. We could always depend on Angie to be at our client’s home five minutes early ready to put their wishes for the day first. Angie gave our client’s hope and always gave them something to look forward to for her next visit. She was able to anticipate the needs of her client’s by a simple look or gesture they gave without them having to say a word. On March 25th of 2014 we were unfortunately given the news that she had passed away suddenly while at home. This was a difficult day for everyone in Angie’s life. It was one of the toughest phone calls we had to make to Angie’s primary client. Angie left an imprint on many people’s lives and was due to be honored as the next CAREGiver of the Month. It is unfortunate that we were not able to present this award directly to Angie but trust that she was there in spirit when it was presented to her family. There is no doubt that Angie left a legacy of care behind and that even today she is watching over her client’s from Heaven. Thank you Angie for the example you were to many CAREGivers. ​

Beverly has been compared to the mailman, she will come no matter what the weather may bring. Since October of 2012 Beverly has been assisting our clients to stay home. For almost a year Beverly has worked nearly 7 days a week. She understands that our clients prefer consistency in care so when she developed relationships that ended up occupying her mornings 7 days a week she knew that it was what was best for our clients overall. And when Beverly does take a day off she is always sure to give the administrative staff plenty of advanced noticed so that we can find a good match to fill her shoes. Beverly ensures that our clients receive their meals and reminds them of their medications and is sure to never forget to put their needs first. Thank you Beverly for your many hours of service to the seniors in our community. ​

In May of 2013 we were extremely blessed to meet Ms. Kim and have her join our team of exceptional CAREGivers. Once Kim began as a CAREGiver she set the bar even higher for what being an exceptional CAREGiver truly means. Kim understands what it means when we say, “To us, it’s personal.” Kim has provided many hours of care for a husband and wife here in Franklin. When she began with them she was there to offer relief for the husband so that he could remain active at work. With in a few months the husband began to have health problems of his own and suddenly Kim had to change her role as the wife’s CAREGiver to being the CAREGiver for both. Although this time was difficult for her she transitioned very smoothly and has been a major cause as to why both the husband and wife are doing so well today. When the Staffing Coordinator was asked why Kim deserved to be the CAREGiver of the Month for February, she stated, “Kim always changes her personal schedule in order to provide on-going care to our clients.” Kim, thank you for the impact you have made and continue to make to this day. ​

Penny has been a CAREGiver with Home Instead Senior Care since July of 2013 and has proven to be a great asset to our team! Penny always has a gleaming personality that is contagious when she walks into the room. You will never see her without a smile on her face. When Emily was asked what stood out about Penny she stated, "Penny takes the time to think beyond the immediate with her clients. She is not only thinking about how she can make their day better, she is thinking about how she can make their week, month and even year better." If it were not for Penny many of the clients she cares for would not see a smiling face. She takes the initiative to check on her client's conditions. For example, Penny cares for a gentlemen who has very little support otherwise. When she arrived one day to provide care, she found out from a neighbor that he had been admitted to the hospital. Instead of going home and taking the rest of the day off, Penny drove to the hospital in which he had been admitted to and made sure he knew that someone cared. Thank you Penny for the tremendous heart you share!​

Lois found herself thumbing through the local paper one morning trying to find something useful to do. There, she found Home Instead. It has been nearly two years now. When reminiscing about all of the clients that she has felt blessed to care for, she is proud to remember one in specific. A 90-year-old lady with dementia:

"Mary is way down in her dementia. Moments of memory are rare with her,” said Lois. "But, when we are around each other, she lights up.”

Lois feels that they have a special connection. She knows that her client can feel her presence and that alone is just one little piece of why Lois loves providing care to her:

"I can tell that woman 50 jokes and she won’t get them. Then, there was that one moment. I read a short joke out of the Reader’s Digest. And in one of those rare moments, she was "there” with me,” said Lois. "She and I made eye contact while I was telling her that joke and she actually got it. We both laughed so hard."

Lois knows that the client has so much that she wants to say sometimes, but she feels that it can be a struggle to get the words out. To help with the struggle, Lois said, "I just try to find the good things to say that can make her smile. Her actions speak louder than words to me and sometimes, you don’t need words."

Lois once gave advice to fellow CAREGivers, "Cherish every moment with every client. It’s the little and rare moments that can move mountains and make you feel special like you’re doing something right.”
