The need for in-home senior care services doesn't always arise between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on a weekday. That's why our team can be reached after hours at 217-720-2363.  We are also available to meet with you seven days a week.   You can always reach us by phone during normal hours at 217-547-1300 to set up home care for a family member.

Amy began her career with Home Instead Senior Care when she opened a franchise office in Jerseyville, Illinois in 2004. The Jerseyville franchise, which covers several counties, remains open under separate ownership. Amy co-founded our Springfield, Illinois office covering Sangamon, Christian, Logan, Mason & Menard counties with her cousin, Laura Carmody, in 2011. 

Amy loves everything about this business! She considers it a great honor to be able to provide service to the seniors of our communities and really enjoys working closely with our CAREGivers & office staff members. Amy believes that gifted CAREGivers are the key to the success of Home Instead Senior Care. Amy has seen many changes in the home care industry in the last 13 years and is eagerly awaiting the innovations of the future.  

Amy is a Carrollton, IL native and the proud mother of three children. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resources. Prior to joining the HISC organization she worked in Human Resources for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri and The Catholic Health Association of the United States, both located in St. Louis.  In her free time Amy enjoys spending time with her family & friends, reading, fine dining, wine tasting & golfing.

Rob First, Executive Vice President

Rob First, Executive Vice President

Rob was introduced to Home Instead Senior Care when a family member needed home care services. He and his wife met with staff members and were immediately impressed with the company & the mission to provide distinctive care with a compassionate touch. With a bachelor's degree in marketing and minor in accounting and his experience owning a small business, Rob took on the financial duties of our franchise in 2014. Since that time, his role has expanded to include business development, support and management.

Rob is married to Carol, who works as an RN at Memorial Medical Center. They have 3 children; Katy, J.T. and Danny. Rob is active in his church, heads an Upward Basketball program, serves on two volunteer boards and can be frequently found on the golf course.


Cindy Cannon, Director of Operations

Cindy Cannon, Director of Operations

As Director of Operations it is Cindy's goal to ensure that the highest quality of service is provided to the seniors in our community. Cindy began with a desire to help others and completed CNA certification at a very young age. She later worked in the social service department of a nursing home where she developed a deep love of making a difference in the lives of seniors. She believes it is a great honor to be able to help families care for their aging parents each & every day.

Cindy was attracted to Home Instead Senior Care by the company mission & objectives. She began working for the Jerseyville, IL franchise in 2011. She accepted her current position in our Springfield, IL franchise in the fall of 2014. In her current role she is able to combine her love of serving seniors & their families with the Business Administration degree she earned from Lewis & Clark Community College.

Cindy empathizes with others who are part of the "sandwich generation" juggling care of her immediate family, the increasing needs of aging parents and a career. Cindy and her husband John are the parents of Aleisha & Johnny. She is also very active in her church where she leads Bible Study and works with the Women's Ministry.


Dana Crews, Client Care Coordinator

Dana Crews, Client Care Coordinator

​Dana joined the Home Instead team in 2015 following six years of working for Senior Services of Central Illinois. She finds it rewarding to help seniors maintain independence and remain at home as long as possible. What she most enjoys about her role as a Client Care Coordinator is developing close relationship with her clients and their families and creating individualized plans of care. Dana has a passion for working with seniors and can't imagine doing anything else!

Dana earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She is engaged to be married and is planning a summer ceremony. In her free time Dana loves riding her bicycle and serving in her local church.


Kathy Otken, Client Care Coordinator

Kathy Otken, Client Care Coordinator

Kathy joined the Home Instead Senior Care team in October, 2015 bringing with her over 15 years of experience in senior care and family resource advocacy. Her passion for seniors grew from her own experience as a full time caregiver for her dying grandfather, who was determined to spend his last days in the comfort of his own home. She understood and was committed to ensuring he received the love, dignity and respect due him, but often denied to our growing aging population.

She brings that commitment and passion with her as she serves as a Client Care Coordinator. She is responsible for completing care consultations with prospective clients and families; developing personalized care plans for new clients and completing quality assurance home visits and phone calls to ensure our excellent CAREGiver services are continuing to meet our client's ever changing needs.

Kathy is a wife and a mother of 4, and "Nana" to 10 grandchildren. She hails from the great state of Kansas and has lived in the Midwest all of her life. She graduated from Ozark Christian College with a BS in Christian Education. Kathy devotes herself to her faith, family and the pursuit of making a difference in the lives to the many seniors she is privileged to serve every day.

She is grateful for the opportunity to work with such a dedicated team of people who hold the same vision and determination to provide outstanding home care services to seniors and their families.


Joan Hahn, Client Care Coordinator

Joan Hahn, Client Care Coordinator

Joan has always enjoyed spending time with and helping seniors, even as a young girl, when she spent most of her free time with her grandparents.

Joan joined the Home Instead Senior Care team in 2015. She began working with seniors in 2008 when she began employment at Senior Services as a Case Manager. After leaving Senior Services Joan became the Executive Director at Wyndcrest Assisted Living. She retired briefly, but was drawn back to working with seniors and their families, which is what she truly enjoys.

Joan has been married to Patrick for 27 years, and they have two daughters, Ralee and Holly. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and trying her hand at gardening.


Margaret Pike, Staffing Coordinator

Margaret Pike, Staffing Coordinator

Margaret became a member of our family in 2015. Prior to joining Home Instead Senior Care she enjoyed over 30 years providing service to diverse groups of people through her work and volunteer positions in the hospitality, legal and non-profit industries. In her current role she loves finding the perfect match between client & CAREGiver. 

As with many people, Margaret's first experience helping seniors was assisting her grandparents. She was privileged as a teen to have her grandparents from Vermont spend several winters living with her family in Delaware. She later assisted her mother with personal care during her battle with breast cancer and worked as a home helper for a disabled WWII veteran & neighbor.  

Margaret became a resident of Illinois in 1998. In her free time she enjoys exploring the parks, back roads & small towns of central Illinois with her true love, their two teenagers and their very spoiled peke-a-tzu. 


Marsha Brockhouse, Staffing Coordinator

Marsha joined Home Instead Senior Care as a CAREGiver in 2012 & was a CAREGiver of the Quarter in 2013. Prior to joining Home Instead, she used her CNA skills working in local nursing homes and providing private care for her father, who suffered from Alzheimer's & her grandmother.

Marsha began working part-time in the office in 2014 and transitioned into the role of full-time Staffing Coordinator in 2015. When not working she can be found riding her horse or motorcycle or enjoying the company of her four children & nine grandchildren


Karen Hampton, Lead CAREGiver

Karen Hampton, Lead CAREGiver

Karen joined our team as a CAREGiver in August 2014 following a period of 6 months of providing one-to-one care for her mother. Karen quickly proved to be a favorite and often requested CAREGiver for several of our clients and was our CAREGiver of the year for 2015. Karen believes everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect while care is being provided. We count on her to share her enthusiasm and solution-oriented approach with our newest team members and answer their questions with confidence.

Karen is a Springfield native who began helping others as a nursing home volunteer as a young teen and followed that experience to become a CNA and Certified Nursing Technician working in hospitals in Florida & Illinois. She is married to her best friend Hoyt. Karen & Hoyt are the parents of Garret, married to Hope & Alyshia. Karen's "baby" is her dog Millie.  

When not working Karen enjoys riding motorcycles with her husband; planning gatherings for her parents, brothers & their families at the residential facility where her mother lives & volunteering. Karen & her family actively support the Springfield community by investing their time, talent & resources supporting annual events through Friend In Deed, the Thanksgiving Walk in Lincoln Park, the Peacekeepers Ride & Be A Santa to A Senior.  


John Schoen, Home Care Consultant

John Schoen, Home Care Consultant

John joined the Home Instead Senior Care team in July, 2017 following an extensive sales & marketing career and a brief retirement. Influenced by especially close relationships with his parents, grandparents and in-laws John found HISC to be the logical fit at this point in his life's journey. John and Tia, his wife of 35 years, had provided assistance to their parents and his grandparents in their golden years.

John is looking forward to helping seniors and their families in Springfield and the surrounding communities. He is excited by the opportunity to help them identify their needs and suggest the individualized solutions necessary for them to remain safely at home.

John's leisure interests are in outdoor activities including jogging, gardening, and water sports.


Jessica Chaney, Home Care Consultant

Jessica Chaney, Home Care Consultant

​Jessica joined Home Instead Senior Care in July, 2017. She has a passion for helping individuals and their families overcome the challenges of physical and cognitive disabilities. In her early college years Jessica worked as a personal support worker through Sparc. Later, while in graduate school she enjoyed the opportunity to complete internships in skilled nursing facilities and rehab centers where she witnessed the challenges of aging including Alzheimer's and other types of dementia. Most recently Jessica served as a Care Coordinator at Senior Services of Central Illinois.

Jessica is excitedly embracing the opportunity to enhance the lives of seniors in her new role at Home Instead Senior Care.  In addition to her work experience, Jessica brings her personal experience of looking for solutions to assist her own grandparents maintain their independence.

Outside of work, Jessica can be found in the gym, spending time with friends and family, or painting.


Leslie McMurray, Office Assistant

Leslie McMurray, Office Assistant  Leslie graduated from Blackburn College "Home of the Beavers" in 2015 with a BA in Business Management. Leslie participated in the Blackburn Work Program in a variety of positions during her years on campus, including an incredible opportunity in Accounts Payable during her senior year.  Leslie also played softball for three years and soccer for one while attending Blackburn.

 

Following graduation, Leslie helped provide care for her husband Ross's parents. Leslie joined the Home Instead Senior Care team in 2016. Leslie & Ross are the excited new parents of their first child born in March. When Leslie is not at work, she can be found spending time with her family or outdoors enjoying fishing, playing softball or watching sports.


Brigitte Smith, Office Assistant/On-Call Supervisor

Brigitte Smith, Office Assistant/On-Call Supervisor

Brigitte joined Home Instead Senior Care following retirement from the State of Illinois. She holds a Bachelor of Science in speech communication from Illinois State University. Brigitte began her employment with our franchise in 2015 as a CAREGiver and was awarded CAREGiver of the 4th Quarter of that year. She later began dividing her hours as CAREGiver during the day and as On Call Supervisor after office hours before accepting her current position.

Brigitte is a widow and mother of 3 sons, 2 godchildren & 2 granddaughters and is looking forward to the arrival of a third grandchild later this year.  She is a Licensed and Ordained Minister, who knew immediately that Home Instead Senior Care was the place for her when she saw that one of the company objectives was "To Honor God in All We Do".

Brigitte is very involved with her family and church where she is a member of the ministerial staff & praise team, teaches children's church and directs the women's ministry and children's choirs.  She also hosts a daily Christian, blog talk radio show and is actively involved providing community service as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Springfield-Decatur Area Alumnae Chapter.


Karen Geist, On- Call Supervisor

Karen Geist, On- Call Supervisor

Karen joined Home Instead Senior Care as a CAREGiver in August 2014 after 37 years as an office assistant for a local distribution company. She currently covers shifts as a CAREGiver and helps answer calls after office hours. Karen is married to Kevin and together they have 4 children, 10 grandchildren & 2 spoiled fur babies (Abby the chihuahua & Chip the cat). Karen is an active member of her church and enjoys attending service each week with her ageing parents. In addition to enjoying time spent with her family, she  likes working with the flowers in her yard and traveling.
