The list was generated using anonymous feedback from employees at the nation's top employers.

Companies on the Best Employers' list range across 25 different industry sectors – from government services to retail to healthcare. While the 2017 list featured a variety of healthcare companies, Home Instead is the only provider of home care services for seniors.

On-Call CareGiver

Job Details

As an On-Call CAREGiver, an employee maintains open availability for the duration of the designated On-Call period, in order to provide Caregiving Services to established HISC Clients on a fill-in basis.

There are 3 On-Call periods: WEEKEND / WEEK DAY / OVERNIGHT.

ON-CALL PERIODS

WEEKEND:

  • The Weekend On-Call Caregiver will remain available during the hours of 5:00pm Friday through 8:00am Monday

WEEKDAY:

  • The Week Day On-Call Caregiver will remain available during the hours of 8:00am to 5:00p, Monday through Friday.

OVERNIGHT:

  • The Overnight On-Call Caregiver will remain available during the hours of 5:00pm to 8:00am Monday through Friday

 

Employee must maintain a cellular phone-in working order, on record with the company, to facilitate communication with the On-Call Supervisor / Scheduler who is responsible for directing the activity and assignments of the On-Call Caregiver.

 

The On-Call Caregiver is expected to be able to arrive at any location within the Service Territory of HISC Honolulu within one (1) hour of notice from supervisor.

 

For maintaining an open availability during the designated On-Call period, the On-Call Caregiver will be paid a flat rate of $15.00/hour.  After completing 10 consecutive shifts (no refusal of shift), the On-Call CareGiver will receive an hourly rate increase.

 

If the On-Call Caregiver is unavailable or unreachable by phone at any point during the designated On-Call period, then it will be considered as refusal of shift and rate incentive will be forfeited.

 

The On-Call CAREGiver provides a variety of non-medical services that allow seniors to remain in their homes. These services generally fall under four categories:

  • Companionship
  • Home Helper
  • Personal Care
  • Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care

 

Secondary Responsibilities include the following:

  • Contributing to a positive living environment to enhance a client’s quality of life
  • Performing other reasonable duties as assigned
  • Reporting hours according to office policy
  • Reporting any significant changes in a client’s needs or living conditions
  • Regularly communicating with supervisor and office staff
  • Attend all monthly in-services and quarterly meetings

 Essential Qualifications

The Employee must understand and uphold the policies and procedures established by DASHER CORPORATION, (d.b.a. an independently owned and operated Home Instead Senior Care franchise).

An individual must possess the minimum education, experience and skills to perform the primary and secondary responsibilities the job requires. Additional qualifications include:

  • Must possess active CNA License with at least 1 year verifiable CNA experience
  • Must be available to work within 1 hour of notice for the duration of the designated On-Call period
  • Must maintain working cellular telephone on file with the HISC office
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 25 pounds
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and reach
  • Ability to withstand exposure to dust, mold, mildew and cleaning solutions
  • Ability to treat and care for clients and their property with dignity and respect
  • Ability to adapt to various living environments and locations
  • Ability to communicate with clients in a friendly and congenial manner
  • Ability to present a professional appearance and demeanor

Special Qualifications

  • Ability to drive and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must have a valid and unsuspended HI Driver’s License
  • Must possess valid auto insurance, vehicle registration and state safety inspection
  • Must have the ability to drive to client locations
  • May be required to run errands and provide incidental transportation for a client using your vehicle or a client’s vehicle

On-Call CAREGiver Wages

  • On-Call CAREGivers earn $15.00 per hour worked with a client during on-call shifts.
  • After answering and completing 10 consecutive on-call shifts, On-Call Caregiver becomes eligible for hourly rate increase incentive
    • This means that you have answered and accepted an on-call shift, consecutively 10 times in a row and are now eligible to receive a pay increase. So now instead of $15.00 an hour, your hourly rate is $15.25. If you continue to continuously answer and accept on-call shifts, your hourly rate will continue to increase every 10 consecutive shifts.
  • ON-Call Caregivers are NOT eligible for on-going shifts
