"I am continually struck by the professionalism, high level of caring and exemplary caregivers that I have met from Home Instead. My mom couldn't live without them, and neither could I.
Helen has had over 30 years + experience as a registered nurse as well as managing Radiology Departments of Hospitals in South Australia. She has always had a passion and desire to help seniors, and so was thrilled when she landed the role of General Manager at the Rockford ‘Home Instead Senior Care’ office. During the 3 ½ years there she realized the valuable and important service the company was providing to communities and how the CAREGivers made such a positive difference to the lives and overall well-being of our Seniors. It was for this reason she and her husband, Wayne Slagle, decided to invest in their own Franchise in Dekalb.
Retiring after more than 20 years in the NAVY, Wayne moved to Australia to help care for his wife, Helen’s, ailing parents. Her father had 2nd stage Alzheimers and her mother was struggling with the early signs of Parkinsons. He said that experience helped motivate his desire to choose a career involving caring for Seniors. “When I go to bed at night, I want to know that we’ve contributed to the community,” Wayne said. “I want to earn a living and help the community in the same breath, if you will. And if I can accomplish those two goals, I can feel good about myself”
Samantha has an extensive back ground in business networking and Hospitality ranging from working as a Trade Broker for the world’s largest Trade Exchange, to selling adventure packages and activities in back packing hostels. She spent the most part of her 20’s travelling and working throughout Australia, New Zealand and Fiji and decided to move to the USA shortly after her parents in early 2005. Since arriving in The States, Samantha has enjoyed working and living in the beautiful city of Chicago. She was lucky enough to snap up the role of General Manager for the ‘Home Instead’ office in Dekalb in August of 2012, and has been loving it ever since. She feels an enormous sense of satisfaction doing her part to make a difference to the lives of Seniors as well as a real appreciation for the CAREGivers who offer so much of themselves.
