2016 CAREGiver of the Year

It is with extraordinary pleasure that we announce our Sabin as our 2016 CAREGiver of the Year. Our nomination for CAREGiver of the year for 2016 is not only a very special one because of the amazing things this gentleman does for Home Instead Senior Care, but also for the extraordinary gifts he provides to others in this world. We believe these to be the ultimate traits in the CAREGiver of the year. He truly makes me want to be a better, father, husband, son, friend and vessel for God.

As owner, and closing in on my 9th year of providing employment opportunities to many wonderful people in Portland Oregon, something I have learned over that time is that caregiving is more than a job. Great caregivers treat their work more like a higher calling, something they are passionate about, because they know serving seniors is what they are “supposed” to be doing at this time in their lives. Great caregivers come from all walks of life, but what they often have in common is they have shifted their focus from success to significance. There is one CAREGiver who stands above the rest and will forever reside in our minds as CAREGiver of the Year. A man who has not only studied, sacrificed and given his entire life to medicine, but chooses to continue giving in his “golden” years. Dr. Sabin Belknap is one of the select few, born with the CAREGiver DNA and the ability to show the true meaning of love.

With all that he does for staffing, there is only one day he is unable to work for us, that day is Tuesday. That is because every Tuesday during the months of June, July and August he wakes up around 4am and arrives at his church by 5am to setup and begin making hundreds of sandwiches. He then helps serve those same sandwiches to homeless people within the community. During the other 9 months of the year on Tuesdays he continues with this same selfless routine making and serving chili and Cornbread to the homeless. In addition to this, every Wednesday and Saturday at 5:30pm, Sabin picks up bread from a local Deli and then delivers the bread to a local low income housing complex.  It is actions such as these that foster the sense of community that Home Instead Senior Care is so proud of.

When you try to compliment Sabin on his work and praise him for a job well done, he will tell you he is the grateful one and remains thankful for knowing people so amazing. Sabin is energized by his clients and their families. He is the first to answer his phone, quick to say yes, and willing to drop everything at a moment’s notice to get to a client. Countless times he has rearranged his schedule and driven distances double and triple the norm, simply because it is his job. Without hesitation or complaint, Sabin will gladly accept his duties and stand at every client's door with a smile on his face. For Sabin, this work is so much more than pay, benefits or reward. He lives humbled by those he cares for, regardless of who they are. He reminds all of us that even with our busy schedules it is possible to take time to help and care for one another.

We believe there is no better representative for Home Instead Senior Care in our community than Sabin. His actions on and off the clock represent what Home Instead works to accomplish, taking care of others. He never forgets those in the community who may be overlooked or underestimated; whether they be seniors or those in need. This is why we are so proud to have Sabin a part of our team.

Sabin is an amazing CAREGiver. He emulates warmth, humility and compassion as he serves our seniors.

Sincerely,
Preston Roth

2015 CAREGiver of the Year

It is with great pleasure that I announce Barbara as our 2015 Home Instead CAREGiver of the year. Barbara has been with Home Instead Senior Care for nearly 3 years and is known for her excellent care, wonderful smile and selfless approach. She cares for our clients and family members with respect and dignity and treats caring for our seniors as if she were caring for her own mother or father.

Although I have not spent nearly as much time with Barbara as I would like, the times I have spent with her have been so enjoyable. My team and I conducted a focus group earlier this year and Barbara was one of the employees who participated. During that time with her I could hear, see and feel the love in Barbara’s heart. Something that cannot be faked or created without true meaning behind it. It is very apparent that Barbara has a heart of gold.

As owner, and closing in on my 8th year of providing employment opportunities to good people in Oregon, something I have learned over that time is that caregiving is more than a job. Good caregivers treat their work more like a higher calling, something they are passionate about, because they know serving seniors is what they are “supposed” to be doing. Good caregivers come from all walks of life, but what they often have in common is they have shifted their focus from success to significance.

For those of you who don’t know, Barbara lost her husband earlier this year due to cancer. Cancer seems to affect all of us at some point in our lives and how we manage through it, muster up the strength to endure the hurt and continue to love is what is most important. In Barbara I see this resolve, she is back working full-time, stays positive and continues to lovingly care for her clients. Although her pain is not gone, we can see the strength within her. We support her during this tough time and are here for her whenever she might need us.

Barbara is an amazing CAREGiver. CAREGiver’s like Barbara are the foundation of our business, she and others make it possible for older adults to remain at home as they age.  I am so very pleased and extremely honored to have Barbara as our CAREGiver of the year and as part of our Home Instead Senior Care family.

Sincerely

2014 CAREGiver of the Year

It is with great honor that I announce Dawn Dunsmore as our 2014 CAREGiver of the year.

Dawn has been with Home Instead Senior Care for over 5 years and has close to 10,000 hours serving our seniors.  Her long term tenure with us, her sincere desire to help people, her thirst to continually learn and her aspiration to put others before herself make Dawn Dunsmore our perfect 2014 CAREGiver of the year!

As the owner of Home Instead Senior Care I have been very fortunate to be able to spend some quality time with Dawn, something that doesn’t frequently happen due to the nature of our business. I have had this opportunity on multiple occasions due to our occasional inclement weather and driving CAREGivers to assignments. Although a stressful time for everyone, the positive I take is being able to learn more about my team. This is precious time and is the reason I have been able to know Dawn much more then I might otherwise have. I have learned that Dawn loves to read, she loves to learn and she seemingly knows something just about everything. She is an intellect and understands the power of knowledge. She is such an asset to us as a company and to our clients.

Dawns dedication to Home Instead Senior Care and our clients incredible. She rides the bus to all of her clients. She knows the bus routes like a Doctor knows the human Cardiovascular System. Her dedication to serving others is her life. She wakes up earlier to catch the bus, leaves late at night to catch a bus and all the while never complains because she knows she is needed. There is nothing she won’t do to help our seniors and our staffing department ensure we can help a senior in need.

It is also worth mentioning that not only is Dawn a wonderful CAREGiver to our seniors, Dawn is also our CAREGiver committee president. Her focus is on enhancing tools, safety and education for our caregiver team. She is always the first to give of her time, money and talents to benefit the CAREGiver committee and in turn our entire CAREGiver team.

For those of you who don’t know, Dawn is fighting Cancer. She was first diagnosed earlier this year and has been battling this disease like a true champion. She stays positive, inspiring and her glass is always full! We support her in this battle and are here for her whenever she might need us. It’s our turn as a Home Instead Senior Care family to take care of her like she has done for us and so many seniors over the years!

Dawn is an amazing CAREGiver. Her life mission of - Service over Self is inspiring. CAREGivers like Dawn are the foundation of our business, she and others make it possible for older adults to remain at home as they age.  I am so very pleased and extremely honored to have Dawn Dunsmore as our CAREGiver of the year and as part of our Home Instead Senior Care family.

Sincerely

2013 CAREGiver of the Year

It is with great honor that I announce Ruth as our 2013 CAREGiver of the year.

Ruth has been with Home Instead Senior for over 6 years and has close to 20,000 hours serving our seniors.  Her long term tenure with us, her sincere desire to help people and her unwavering positive and grateful attitude make Ruth our perfect 2013 CAREGiver of the year!

Over the years as an owner of Home Instead Senior Care I have come to realize through my many interactions with CAREGivers, clients and family members that it takes a very very special person to be an outstanding CAREGiver. But in that same breath I can also say with confidence that we as a company have many outstanding CAREGivers helping our seniors today. Being a caregiver means doing something for someone who can never repay you. A great CAREGiver needs to be patient in times of frustration, gentle in times of vulnerability, calm in times of turmoil, compassionate in times of sadness, and quick thinking in times of distress. Ruth exudes all of these characteristics and more.

For those of you who know Ruth or have had the chance to meet her,  know the sweetness of her heart, her gentle eyes and the way she makes you feel as if you are the only person that matters in that moment. She is soft spoken, but has a heart larger than life.  She is a woman of character and would give the shirt off her back if she felt it would help someone more. Not only are her caregiving abilities wonderful and feedback from clients nothing less than stellar, but her interaction with our office staff is always a positive one.

Ruth is an amazing CAREGiver. She emulates warmth, humility and compassion as she serves our seniors. I can truly say that not all angels reside in heaven, many walk the earth and Ruth is one of them.  I am so very pleased and extremely honored to have Ruth be our CAREGiver of the year and as part of our Home Instead Senior Care family.

Sincerely

2012 CAREGiver of the Year

This years nomination for CAREGiver of the year consisted of 2 CAREGivers because it was so hard to only choose one. Our 2 CAREGivers of the year are: Dawn and Janice.

Our 1st CAREGiver of the Year is Dawn

Dawn has been with Home Instead Senior for a little over 3 years and during that time she has provided excellent care and has exhibited a wonderful attitude and passion for life. She cares for our clients and family members with respect and dignity but also has a sincere desire to help her fellow caregivers.

Dawn has been the CAREGiver committee president since its inception and during that time has been a strong advocate to enhancing the tools, safety and education of our caregiver team. She is always the first to give of her time, money and talents to benefit the CAREGiver committee and in turn our entire CAREGiver team.

During my time being owner of Home Instead Senior Care and because Dawn does not drive, I have had the pleasure on numerous occassions to drive Dawn to and from client assignments. What I have learned about Dawn is her sincere affinity to learning and educating herself on new things about life, science and literature. She is seemingly a Human Encyclopedia with answers and thoughts on just about anything, a very wonderful asset in a caregiver and a person.

Dawn holds the same amazing characteristics that all of our caregivers have and that is that good caregivers treat their work more like a higher calling, something they are passionate about, because they know serving seniors is what they are “supposed” to be doing at this time in their lives. Good caregivers come from all walks of life, but what they often have in common is they have shifted their focus from success to significance.

Dawn epitomizes what it means to be a great CAREGiver. She emulates warmth, humility and compassion as she serves our seniors. I am so very pleased and extremely honored to have Dawn Dunsmore be 1 of 2 CAREGiver of the year nominees, as part of our Home Instead Senior Care family.

Our 2nd CAREGiver of the Year  is Janice

Janice has been with Home Instead Senior Care for 9 years and has over 44,000 Caregiving hours with Home Instead Senior Care. That number alone shows her sincere commitment, passion and strong desire to help seniors in anyway that she can. She has literally given her life to Home Instead Senior Care. Whenever Janice comes into the office you can sense, feel and hear her infectious laugh, she has a passion for life and helping. There is no question that Janice loves what she does ! Now if we could just figure out how to clone her.

During my time as owner what I’ve  learned about Janice is that “no” is not part of her vocabulary, but “what can I do for you” or “Ill do whatever,  wherever and whenever you need me” definitely is! Sweet music to our staffers ears. Janice is so willing to help our seniors in need, that it takes a sincere efforts by our office team just to keep her from work 7 days a week.

Janice has always been a leader and mentor to other caregivers. She exudes confidence and a strong self-awareness, calming her clients and giving them a real sense of safety and control. Her attitude is one that is always positive, reassuring and NEVER negative. Her glass is always half full, never half empty. She looks for the positives in every situation.

One of the characteristics we look for in our CAREGiver of the year is not only her caregiving abilities and feedback from clients, but also the interaction with our office staff. And it’s with ease that I say every single interaction with Janice is a positive one.

The energy and enthusiasm with which she goes about her life are remarkable. Janice truly loves her job, she truly appreciates her support team and she truly deserves the nomination of CAREGiver of the year. I am so very honored to have Janice Sherman, CAREGiver of the year Nominee, as part of our Home Instead Senior Care family.

2011 CAREGiver of the Year

It is with great pleasure that I award Angela as Home Instead Senior Care’s CAREGiver of the year for 2011. Angela has been with Home Instead Senior Care for a little over 3 years and is known for her excellent care, wonderful smile and passion for life. She cares for our clients and family members with respect and dignity and radiates excellence to whomever she comes in contact with.

As owner, and closing in on my 4th year of providing employment opportunities to good people in Multnomah County, something I have learned over that time is that caregiving is more than a job. Good caregivers treat their work more like a higher calling, something they are passionate about, because they know serving seniors is what they are “supposed” to be doing at this time in their lives. Good caregivers come from all walks of life, but what they often have in common is they have shifted their focus from success to significance.

Angela has a passion for people and making their lives better. She is always courteous and helpful to others. She has the wonderful skill to adapt her care to a senior’s specific needs and cultural needs. She is a positive team member and always exhibit’s a “win-win” philosophy.

Angela’s involvement on the CAREGiver committee, community and world are a testimony to her sense of compassion. She shows great concern for the welfare of others and is actively involved with finding solutions to difficult situations. She provides excellent care to our seniors, often going the extra step to make sure our clients and or family members are comfortable and secure. Her life is an example of Home Instead Senior Care’s mission, “To us, Its Personal”

Senior Care is her mission, compassion and improving the quality of life for our seniors is her passion. The energy and enthusiasm with which she goes about her life are remarkable. She emulates warmth, humility and compassion as she serves our seniors. I am so very pleased and extremely honored to have Angela, CAREGiver of the year, as part of our Home Instead Senior Care family.

Sincerely

Preston & Aimee Roth

2010 CAREGiver of the Year

Laura has been with Home Instead Senior Care for almost 4 years with almost 8000 hours served. During that time Laura has shown her endless passion for seniors and a sincere desire to truly make the lives of our seniors so much better.

Laura has the uncanny ability to face challenges and emergencies with grace and leadership, comforting the staff and family members a like. Laura is the type of person in which you can place in ANY environment for any reason, and she will stabilize it and improve it without a hitch. What an amazing quality and confidence to have. Because of her professionalism, leadership and confidence she was also asked by a Physical Therapist to create a care video for one of our clients where she demonstrated different techniques to ensure the safety and comfort of this client, what an honor. We hear from our clients and family members constantly that they thoroughly enjoy her fellowship and sincere advocacy for their well being.

I am so very pleased and honored to award Laura with our highest award, and that is, as our CAREGiver of the year. A great woman of character, compassion and dedication.

Warmest Regards

2009 CAREGiver of the Year

Charonne has been with Home Instead for 3.5 years and  the one thing that I am constantly amazed by is Charonnes sincere and unwavering desire to show people how much she cares and appreciates them. She has a drive to show us all what it means to truly care about someone or something. Her selfless approach shines through with every client she commits to and at every visit to our office. She consistently evangelizes our goals and commitments to our seniors. We have a test in our office when hiring and evaluating any new potential CAREGiver and that is “Would I trust this person to take care of my mother or grandmother” A statement that is so personal and telling, that it truly shows how each and every CAREGiver is hired with a special touch and focus. So with that I am so very pleased and honored to award Charonne with our nomination for CAREGiver of the year. A great woman of character, compassion and dedication and I, would trust her with anyone in my family.

Warmest Regards

 Preston Roth
