You know the story: When Torsten and Teresa opened Home Instead Senior Care in Richmond, VA in 1997, they were the only two employees. In fact, Teresa still held her job in medical sales while she also managed the operations and marketing efforts for Home Instead in those early years. Now, as the CEO/franchise owner, Teresa is focusing on ways to grow and expand our services. For example, her passion for and experience in the health care industry helped shape our 2012 pilot study on discharge planning for CHF patients, demonstrating the importance of home care in the prevention of hospital readmissions. And, as the industry continually shifts, Teresa is constantly positioning our home care services among families, physicians, social workers and other health care professionals as a means to keeping our senior community safe. With two active teens at home, Teresa is always running from one kid’s activity to the next…while also finding the time to pursue her love for long-distance running!
As the Client Care Manager, Stephanie Derry manages the entire client experience with Home Instead Senior Care for Richmond and Tappahannock. She is the main point of contact for all customer service, oversees the plans of care for our companionship clients, manages our quality assurance program and oversees the staffing department. With her background in PR and advertising, Stephanie also manages the public relations campaigns and public outreach events in the Richmond, Northern Neck and Middle Pensinsula areas.
Janice Thomas is the voice behind HISC after hours! Janice has been a part of the Home Instead Senior Care team since 2006. Janice handles on-call for HISC when the office is closed. Though she does not work in the office during normal operation hours, Janice is another staffing coordinator in that she knows all of the clients, cases and caregivers. She picks up the phone anytime of the night or weekend and handles every situation that arises. Though her role in on-call is for emergencies only, Janice always handles everything with grace, urgency and a commitment to keeping everyone happy and cared for at all times. Janice is fully invested in the mission of Home Instead Senior Care and proves that every night and weekend when she keeps everything staffed seamlessly and ensures that there is always a welcome and truly committed voice on the other end of the line.
